I've been going to Johnny exclusively for a couple years now. Reliable and consistent every time!

I took my younger brother to this place and asked for a combover with a low taper fade. They gave him the opposite of that which was a high fade along with a VERY short top. He looked mediocre at best. read more

Gen Xrs if you are looking for a good old barber shop, look no further. Hooligans is that type of shop. They have either good tunes playing or good shows & movies playing on the tube Your not gonna pay 60, 70,80, 90 bucks for a clean cut. They got barber shop prices ,good old barber shop vibe. If you're looking for a clean cut any of the barbers can hook you up, or you can call and book my barber Johnny. He always hooks me up with a clean cut. read more

Awesome people love the service and good vibes been going there forever. They know what Will suit you thank you for your hospitality

Located just up the street from me this CASH only barbershop fits perfectly into the mold for recent pop ups of trendy social spaces to get a haircut. From the exterior you wouldn't think much. Located between a "Children's Nutrition Store" and vacant dirty windows the façade leaves little visualization to see inwards. However as you step closer and walk in you see black is the predominant, if not only, color filling the walls. With black paint, black TVs, and black seats the only contrast in color comes from the hues of neon and Netflix movies streaming on the flatscreen TV. It has the feel of rockabilly meets suavacito but in a casual way. Although there are multiple stations usually there is only two barbers working at one time. Though they predominantly take, and recommend, making reservations before coming in they do take walk-ins. General wait times can be as short as 10 minutes to as long as an hour depending on what time of the day you arrive. The barbers are usually chill about it but with only foldout chairs to sit in and not much to do while you wait I highly recommend making that appointment or calling ahead. Haircuts generally range from $15-$25 depending on if you get a shave and full service too. The barbers aren't too talkative and they use clippers, scissors, and straight razors to give you that clean cut. Hooligans are meant to disrupt the social norm and bring a little mayhem to the neighborhood. Although I'm not positive if these barbers plan on creating anarchy soon Hooligans Barbershop is a welcomed change in pace and identity to an Uptown area filled with throwbacks from the past but looking, slowly, to the future. read more

Been closing in on about a year at this shop, adam is a wiz. Clean cuts each time and very chill dude who has a heavy emphasis on his customers. Been to some shops which focus on bodies in chairs but thats not the vibe here. Would definitely recommend Adam, appointments only! read more

My regular barber retired due to COVID so I put off getting a haircut until I bent down to tie my shoe the other day and some passerby threw a dollar at me like I was homeless. I walked in not knowing what to expect and it was a great experience. I got a proper fade while watched part of the "The Haunting of Hill House" and even though I flinched a lot, not 'cause i was scared you know allergies and what not, my barber was on point. read more

I was going to a very good barber for some time but it was very difficult setting an appointment via phone. I by chance passed Hooligans while looking for a new barber. I came in with no appointment and the place was busy. In about ten minutes I was called to the chair. The vibe was cool and my barber was super chill. I'm an old dude so it was great listening and talking to this guy. Reminded me of my youth I came in wanting to honor my late father by getting his old school flat top. So grateful that my barber Gilbert killed it. Not many barbers can cut hair like this brother. I was impressed by all the cool cuts by all the barbers here. It's amazing how by chance I was lucky to pass Hooligans when I did. I'm there every 2 or 3 weeks. I don't wait bc now I make an appointment by phone or text. Highly recommended! Thank you Gilbert. So my son and I walk into this place today and the moment we walked in, everyone (the 10 or so teenage boys and barbers) in the place stopped talking and stared at us. It had to be one of the most uncomfortable feeling ever. I asked how long the wait was and I got nothing but silence for about 7 seconds before one of them looked around and told me "40 minutes". Now that might not seem like much, but it felt like forever with the uncomfortable silence that accompanied it. Well, I said "Thank you" and we turned around and walked right out. The moment we were out of earshot of them, my son tells me, "well that was uncomfortable". I just looked at him and told him "you read my mind". I would have liked to tell you how good they cut hair, But I guess I'll never know. read more

Mediocre, Loud, and Long wait for a haircut is what you are getting stepping into this barbershop. There were only two guys cutting hair and while one had finished cutting his clients hair, he then motioned his clients friend to hop on to the chair and trim his beard. As he finished it was my turn to go, but only to be told that it was his last client of the day and took off. Still i stayed and asked the other barber how long would it take to finish cutting his clients hair, to which he said roughly ten minutes. Now, THIRTY minutes later and he was still not done. After 45 minutes it was my turn, this guy literally ATE chips as he cut my hair. I left with razor burn on the nape of my neck, dissatisfied, and disappointed. Never going back to this place and hope everyone reads the Good and Bad reviews NOT just the Good ones. read more

I have lived in Whittier my whole life and always struggled finding a barbershop that was right for me. The other day my friend told me about this barbershop in my hometown of Whittier and I decided to give it a try. Which was hard for me because I don't trust anyone with my hair. He recommended me to try a barber specifically and now I can say I've finally found a great local barbershop. Thank you to my man Adam for the cut. I will definitely be a regular. If you are ever in Whittier give this place a try. All the barbers seem awesome. Very friendly and welcoming. read more

Bomb service. Great cuts. Friendly staff. My son and I came in for our summer cuts. Wait was long but worth it. We'll be back.

Just left there nice atmosphere music was a lil loud though but maybe because I'm older now. Didn't wait too long unlike the barbershop I was at where these guys didn't mind how long you waited and there were like 5 barbers here. My usual barber passed away so I'm looking for a new place and I think I just found it. read more

Honestly for the price you're paying for a haircut which is $14 is worth it I've gone to other places where they are charging me $20 plus and that's not even including tip I don't see will be back for this they were friendly nice and I was able to walk in and get a haircut within 15-20 minutes read more

I had never in my previous 34 years on this earth stepped foot into ANY barber shop. With my wedding the next day, I decided to go and try Hooligans out. I was not disappointed. I had booked with Louie and he did an outstanding job. The atmosphere is exactly what I envisioned a barber shop to be like. Guys in there just chopping it up talking about all kinds of stuff. It was truly an enjoyable experience read more

I've been following Chuck around for over 10 years. I've had my experience of walking into random barbershops prior to coming across Chuck and well, let's just say I was not happy with the cuts. I've been following Chuck around for the peace of mind, knowing that I'll be waking out with a great cut. He has now made a home with his co-partner Louie here in Whittier and although it's still a bit of a drive for me, I will continue coming here for the peace of mind. I also bring my son as they tend to do well with kids. His partner Louie has also cut my hair and does a great job as well. They've been doing this a while and keep up with the trends, so you can assure yourself that they can pretty much cut you up just how you'd like. They'll take walk-ins, but to avoid the wait, they also offer appointments. read more

Ok so I got a haircut today from this place after checking the pretty good reviews here. The guy that cut my hair was really young and was cutting another persons hair when I arrived. After he was done with the guy who didn't really seem to care too much how his hair came out left, it was my turn (btw the fading on the side he got didn't look too good, IMO). I tell the guy EXACTLY how I would like my hair done(scissors on top, straight fade all around, but I like to keep alot of hair on sides so don't blend or cut too high, since I like to spike my hair a little on the sides) not too hard right? I even tell him I want it to look pretty much how I have the sides right now, just a little shorter. The mold for what he has to do is already there, he just has to fade it decently and cut the top. He says alright I pretty much have a good idea of how you want it. Cool. He puts on the entourage movie, I'm having a good time UNTIL he turns me around when he finishes. He did NOT do what I asked, he faded super high and doesn't even blend the top of my head with the sides. It pretty much goes from a 2-3 on the sides to a 8 on top. I mean cmon isn't blending the basic **** you learn in school? anyway, the hair is uneven all over the place. I'm visibly upset at this point, he apologizes, cuts some more off the top. asks me if there is any way I could style it like this. In my head I'm like dude you're not helping here. You didn't do what I told you and now there is no way to reverse what you have done. So yeah I'm not happy, I get up, look at him and start pulling my wallet to pay this guy for a sh*tty cut and here is where I'm just more amazed. $15 cut, I hand him a $20, gives me dollar bills so i can basically tip the guy should I choose to. (way to go man, I really like that you expect the tip). Being the nice person I am I STILL pay for the cut AND tip the guy(Moral Compass too strong). He doesn't refuse my money at all. No offer for discount, nothing. Even hands me a business card just in case I want to come back. Are you kidding me? He didn't go out of his way at all to even try and reconcile how unhappy I was. Terrible, just terrible service I've received. If any of you decide to come to this barber shop, don't go to the young guy with a practically shaved head. Owner, if you stumble upon this. I Yelp'd a buncha places around my workplace. I read some of the reviews and decided to peek my head in. A guy named Adam greeted me and asked how is it that he could help me. Afterwards, he asked how I wanted my haircut and how my day was going. Dude made me feel welcomed and like an appreciated customer. He had The Walking Dead playing on the flat screen, too. Ultimately, my haircut came out like I asked him to do it. He was good and precise! I'm definitely hitting up this spot again! read more

Very average haircut. The music is loud enough here to make it a club. Owner should get a clue. If I have to yell at the barber just so he can hear how I want my hair cut then maybe the shit is just a little too loud. First impression walking in...ghetto. read more
