Went in to get a hot towel shave with James. It was my 1st time at the shop. Walked in to this cozy old school spot playing oldies. Was greeted immediately by the barbers and James came out and we got started. Best hot towel shave ever! James is a true professional and goes above and beyond to make sure you are comfortable and his work with the blade was magnificent! He lined up my goatee and made it look clean despite my hair having a certain lean towards the right. I HIGHLY recommend this Shop and can only speak about James though I am certain the rest of the fellas do great work too. Not to mention the very reasonable price especially when comparing them to the other local shops in the area. Even alone you can't beat the price. I'd been looking for a good barber for years and I've finally found him! I've been getting my hair cut by James for two months now, and every time he cuts my hair, he does a fantastic job! He takes the time to ask if I want something new or if I want the same cut. My haircut is always the same, but what I really like is that he makes sure it's perfect! The atmosphere is pleasant, and he's always very friendly and polite. Prices are affordable!! I highly recommend James as a barber for his excellent customer service and his outstanding work! I've been meaning to review James' shop for a while now, since he deserves any and all the attention possible on earth, ever!! After moving from Whittier to Echo Park I was no longer cartwheeling distance to Tip Top Barbershop. So what did I do? Made the same mistake my mother made when she settled for less upon meeting my father. I found some random barber shack near my new place, got the crappiest hair cut that left me looking like aliens had mistaken the top of my head for a corn field. But I work in Montebello so I did a search for barbers around the area, and like an angel coming down from heaven, into cyberspace, and outputting from a computer screen; Double Edge showed itself to me. My first visit did not go too well, but it was the start of a wonderful relationship(Think Desmond and Penny): I made an appt to be seen that same day on my lunch break. When I got there, James was still cutting some dude's hair so I patiently sat myself down and waited, stared at the cool records on the wall, and pretended to know what I was looking at. It was eventually closing in on an hr and I needed to go back to the coal mines. He finished with the guy, but I told him there wasn't enough time and that I would just get it some other day. I honestly did not plan on returning, but he offered me a free haircut card (9 cuts and your 10th is free) as if I had had the 9 cuts! I was immediately won over by his kind gesture, and he didn't seem bitter about it, just very honest in his apology! Which was awesome. When I came to get the free cut he treated me great and apologized again for what had happened. Apparently the guy had shown up late to his appt so it threw his schedule off. I'm not much of a brat when it comes to services so I totally understood. I ended up loving my new do, and have since kept going back. Just this last time I wanted to try something new, and with his suggestions it turned out perfect! James really knows what he's doing, and has a positive attitude on everything so every visit is a pleasure. Plus I like that I can get my haircut at 7AM to impress the decrepit old ladies at work. He recently got a second barber's chair put in which will be good since he is always completely booked. It is pretty much by appointment only, but given the time he'll take walk-ins if no one's in there. But don't be a dick, just make the appointment. I moved to the area in 2009, and since then I have been looking for a barber who is familiar with the attention to detail instilled in me in the Marine Corps. Needless to say my search is over! I have 100% trust in James as he gave my four month old son his first haircut, which is not to be taken lightly considering my infant son's bobble-head and he only used scissors for the task. James assured me that he would cut himself before he cut my son. He also commemorated the event by issuing him his official "First Haircut Certificate." Glad to see this spot reopened! Jay was my barber of choice for over 3 years, until I got married and moved an hour away. I wouldn't have trusted anyone other than him to cut my hair for the big day. Jay does not disappoint and treats everyone like family. My dad had alzheimer's and it was very hard to find a place to take him where if he had a moment everyone wouldn't freak out. Jay would sit and talk with my dad as if he was just like anyone else and during his episodes of forgetfulness showed his true character and took his time to calm my pops down. Call up in the morning to make an appointment, owner tells me it's not busy right now and the barbers get in a 9:30, so I could just walk in. That was a lie. Had me waiting over 40 minutes until I just left. No sense of urgency whatsoever. Feels like you're invisible if you're a walk-in or not a regular. You'll need to keep in mind that Jay's the only barber so you'll need to make an appointment. That being said I called and left a voice msg and he called me back the next day to set one up. The shop cozy with 2 classic barber chairs , a pool table and very clean. Jay takes his time and pays close attention to detail and never rushes. He's a very nice guy and easy to talk to. This barber parlor is and always will be my favorite. Definitely a location to feel at home at. Most local barbers are in a fad of a younger scene with the lack of respect and hospitality. This barber steers from the norm and provides nothing but outstanding service and care for their clients. They listen to you and cut your hair exactly how you want it. And they make suggestions based on what you are trying to do. Today Jay said something that really stood out to me. "Confidence. As a barber, you need to be as confident, if not more confident, than the person that gets up every morning to comb their hair and put on a suit. My search for an LA barber continues. My last outing took me north to Pasadena and 'Gold Rush'. Feel free to check out my review, however the fact i'm still on the search says it all. My search took me south this time to 'Double Edge'. Stellar Yelp! reviews made me optimistic about my visit. I called at 7am to try and get a same day appointment, Yelp! advised that an appointment was necessary and i was in desperate need of a cut. The owner Jay was very friendly when i called and managed to squeeze me into a 3pm appointment. All of the other reviews were very accurate. There are only two barbers. Jay the owner and Isaac who is slightly new to the shop. Jay immediately put me at ease, he was very talkative and friendly. Isaac was slightly less talkative but i think thats because he's so intent on doing a good job. Isaac was my barber and he pretty much nailed it! I'm extremely pleased with the cut. Shout out to Jay for fitting me in too, its blatantly obvious the shop is dedicated to customer service and having a solid product. I will be back! Is the search for an LA barber finally over??? Double Edge Barber Shop, Following my last appointment, I realized James has been cutting my hair for a little over one year now. By far, this has been the best barber in town with outstanding service. I noticed one person in particular gave Double Edge Barber Shop a one star rating on Yelp. This guy does not have a clue what he's talking about. How do you go about rating a business 1 star when you haven't even given them a chance to serve you? To me, this rating has no standing. Anyway, I can personally tell you James and Danny conduct themselves in a professional manner and take extreme pride in their trade. They maintain a clean barber shop and their pricing is reasonable for the service a customer receives. I feel every man requires a reliable and skilled barber to ensure one gets a consistent and clean haircut with every visit. I can say that James and Danny fit that mold and produce excellent results each time - they are supremely confident in what they do. Both James and Danny sit you down on the chair and ask customers the right questions and listen to the customer's requests. They also make suggestions to customers and help guide them to achieve a top quality haircut. That there is a sign of a good barber.  Moreover, James and Danny always follow up with customers and ask for feedback to ensure they leave the shop satisfied. Not only does this barber shop cut hair,  they also have shaving services too. They do take walk in customers, but I suggest making an appointment in advance. These solid guys are so good at what they do, more often than not they are booked. That is a good sign as it shows they get repeat customers. Repeat customers means happy and satisfied customers. Hey, one star rating guy, Double Edge Barbers must be doing something right don't you think? Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out. Give these guys a chance. You won't be disappointed.  I highly recommend them. I go once a week and book my appointments one month in advance. For me, making appointments for a haircut beats having to wait at a barber shop for two hours. With Double Edge Barbers, I walk in at my set appointment time and get taken care of right away. First time I went here I lucked out because I didn't know that they prefer appointments and I was able to snag a chair. So I guess I'm saying call and make an appointment! Now on to the shop, it's a lowkey lil spot on workmen mill, if your on Beverly you can still get into the parking lot by going in the drive way behind the motorcycle spot. Chairs are old school inside. Really awesome shop! The staff, dudes are chill as hell! James and Isaac both get down. I had the same barber for 10 years and I got tired of driving all the way to bell for a cut, Isaac is my new go to barber. The Haircut- one of the best I've had in years. Clean, tight fades. The best barber shop around!!!!!! This review has been long over do. I have been coming to Double Edge for about 2 1/2 years and since the first cut I have only had amazing service by James and his staff. I work a lot so the ability to book a time and walk into an open chair is worth so much to me. On top of that I spent about a year prior to finding Double Edge trying out all the local barbers and could not find one that could cut hair and deliver customer service. If you want a great cut, that will be consistent in quality then this is the place for you.
