She kept a constant eye on my mother and communicated with me regularly and very openly about the progression of her disease. The owners Martha and Bruce were always incredibly helpful with logistics around moving and anything else that might come up. I could register a claim under a section of the business and professions code which would trigger treble damages for failure to pay. I sent the required letter to the proprietor, and lo and behold a cashiers check was delivered to my Mom and it did not bounce when cashed. It took a lot of work to get this money back. You should just be aware if your loved one stays in a care facility with monthly rates and they pass away, you are entitled to a refund for the unused portion of the month that they were not there to be cared for.

The staff knew him so well that they could tell when something was off before anyone else could. They noticed changes in his mood, his energy, even when his oxygen levels seemed low or he just needed connection or support. More than once, they reached out to me simply because they knew my dad. That level of attentiveness and humanity cannot be taught. It comes from people who truly care. My dad participated in everything he possibly could; bingo, karaoke, bowling, crafts, physical therapy, social events and Walnut House gave him community, dignity, purpose, and joy during a stage of life that can otherwise feel very isolating for seniors. Honestly, he got more out of the daily encouragement and movement from the Walnut House activities and staff than he did from many outside services. Over the years, we also watched the facility continue to improve, renovate, and invest in the residents and environment, which we deeply appreciated. What meant the most to our family, though, was how much they loved my father through the very end of his life. After he passed, Walnut House helped host a memorial so that both staff and the friends he made there could say goodbye to him together. My mom was only there a few days when she declared she had found her "forever home." Our family found communication with Walnut House to be excellent. At last, we could sleep peacefully knowing our mom would be safe at night. At the beginning of November he had a stroke and spends 21 days in re-hab center in Vallejo. On December 3, he gets released to come home. We hired 24 hour care at an exorbitant amount of money and it was not that helpful and awkward having someone in your house 24/7. His physical abilities were declining and we were forced to start looking for an elder care facility. We looked for almost three weeks before finding Belhaven with Monica and Dan. They came to our home to save us a trip. Upon explaining the services they offered, talking to Dennis about what he wanted for care and making both he and I feel comfortable with this horrible decision we made arrangements to move him. Dennis who was only 68 years old when he moved to Belhaven. At the time he was the only man living in the back house and was treated like a king. Not once did I ever regret our decision. All his needs were met by the staff with smiles, humor, compassion, empathy and tenderness. Please don't use them, don't put your family on their waitlist. It doesn't work. We had to move my sister to another state. They give false hope. To this day, 14 months later we've never heard from them!

My mother-in-law was admitted here following an ER visit at Kaiser for recovery from a UTI, as she…read morewas experiencing instability with walking. The staff took excellent care of her--carefully monitoring her condition, administering medications, and supporting her recovery. Notably, she did not experience any falls during her stay, which was a significant relief given that she had fallen on her very first day at a previous skilled nursing facility. The reason I am giving four stars instead of five is due to a lack of communication after admission. Neither my husband nor I were contacted regarding her condition, diagnosis, care plan, goals, or discharge planning. It wasn't until I visited the facility in person four days later and requested to speak with someone that we received this information. My mother-in-law did mention that the care environment felt very constant, saying, "They never leave you alone--up at 5:30 for medications, bright lights, no privacy." However, I reassured her that the staff was being attentive and doing their job to support her recovery. By the fourth day, her infection had cleared, and she had regained independence in getting to and from the bathroom without incontinence issues. According to the discharge planner, she was also able to walk 175 feet with a walker under supervision. Special recognition goes to Sondra, the discharge planner, who was incredibly efficient. She coordinated the physician's discharge orders, medication reconciliation, and completed the necessary 602 forms for her return to assisted living--all by 2:55 PM on the same day I met her. We arranged private medical transportation, and my mother-in-law was comfortably settled back into her own bed by 6:15 PM that evening. Overall, we are grateful for the quality of care she received, with the main area for improvement being communication with family members.
