Bought omiyage for my brother in the mainland. My niece enjoyed the fried kalbi but she did not get meat in her first bite. My brother liked the steamed pastele flavor but again no filling in the first bite. They sold rice cake in a bento box which they said equals to about 3.5 cakes. Highly recommend the fried manapua here! They're smaller than regular manapua, but have a good meat-to-dough ratio. The crispy exterior is delicious and not greasy. So I called and they were accommodating to fix it. So I drove back to pick up what was missing. They also have a little extra to make up for the mess up. The food was good but not to the expectations I had from the reviews. I had the sweet and sour pork, fried fish, bbq pork fried rice, and chow mein. Serving size is pretty hefty. Also ordered mini manapuas to go. The fried manapuas were better than the steamed in my opinion, with the crab cream cheese and spinach mozzarella being the best of the dozen that we ordered. I used to love this place. The service here was good before but now the workers here seem to have some kind of attitude or always in a mood. I usually come here for the baked manapuas because it's pretty good, but today will be the last time I ever come here. The Manapua selection here is good. It's better to call in your order if you want to order a fair amount because otherwise you have a bit of a wait. This would be the only reason I come back to get food, just for manapua. Their food selection is good the only thing that I've noticed the few times I was there is that there is always flies in the food area and it's open air and someone is not always there to shoo the flies. For catering pans, I ordered beef chowmein and it was a terrible decision because when we picked it up, it was just beef and chowmein no vegetables it was so weird and it wasn't good. I've been following Honolulu Kitchen IG for a while now. I finally got a chance when I was in the area visiting my Auntie. I just had lunch so i didn't get to try the many varieties of local food available and they look so appetizing. However, I did have the baked charsiu manapua. The bread was soft and fluffy. TL;DR outside may not look like much but food is great definitely recommend. This place was awesome! In and out super fast we stopped for breakfast. We ended up getting 3 of the steamed manapua with char siu since they were the ones ready and man they tasted awesome. Soft doughy bun filled with great pork. I also got a musubi that had furikake on the sides and it was amazing. Furikake gave it a nice extra flavor and the spam was cooked great. Kudos to Honolulu Kitchen for being open on Christmas! We drove around in circles trying to find food to pick up for the holiday and Honolulu Kitchen was our saving grace! The steamed, baked, and fried manapuas are our favorite. Char siu - a classic. Cannot go wrong! Crab and curry pork fried manapuas are my personal favorite. They also have many already prepared dishes and bentos for you to purchase. Very delicious and fresh. Also to note: manapuas are about a 5-7 minute wait time for them to cook fresh. You've probably seem them on Instagram at some point - deep fried manapuas decorated with cartoon characters, company logos, etc. They come with a variety of fillings - sweet and savory. Can't decide? Mix and match, try them all. And if your timing is right, you can sample some, as Unko often brings out samples for you to try while you're waiting in line or waiting for your order. We came specifically for the fried manapuna. Worth the trip! They were so crispy, made fresh, and everyone liked them. The mini size leaves room to enjoy different ones. I am not a huge manapua fan because they are kind of "bready" but meat to bread ratio is perfect on the fried ones and I prefer these. There are so many different flavors, the online menu isn't up to date so go down and see the menu of flavors they have available. Go early, that way they don't sell out. Menu is basically small bento for $9.00 and large for $11.00, difference between the two is the large has a cone sushi, luncheon meat and a piece of shrimp. When I had social media I used to follow this establishment on Instagram and I was always impressed at how cute and friendly the owner was. Watch out for the pot holes and dips in the road when getting to this gem in Waipahu. Alright, I know a lot of people know about HK, But I still feel people are sleeping on this place. Not overly oily or salty. The quality is there. I highly recommend the garlic chicken and Okinawa shoyu pork. I don't think you can go wrong with a plate. And the amount they give is enough for two or three meals! Well worth the price point! Manapua: Their claim to fame. They have different types of filling and they come in steamed, baked, and fried. You can also get them with custom designs, but these are ordered ahead. I only ordered the steamed and they were delicious. Their dough reminded me of the bao dough my mom used to make during new year. And let me tell you--I had a certain way of eating it and this was just the same. It brought a lot of nostalgia with different (and delicious) fillings. Of the ones I ordered, my top were lilikoi, honey garlic chicken, pastele, and spicy chicken. Okay, pretty much all of them were great. Just order them. I don't think you'll be disappointed. There is a wait time for these delicious filled buns, but that just means it's fresh and worth the wait. Staff: all the times I go, the staff is super friendly and cheerful. They give personal recommendations and customer favorites at the drop of a hat, and explain the dishes and even some of the tastes.
