Wanted Chinese so came to yelp and searched. Found this place and was not disappointed. It's a little hole in the wall but food was delicious. It was fresh when me and my husband arrived and they had brought out more food while we were there. Place was a bit packed for being small. Portions were huge! Pricing was very reasonable. We tried the bbq pork, teriyaki chicken, spicy orange chicken and regular orange chicken. The spicy chicken was not really spicy but still very tasty. My favorite was definitely the teriyaki chicken. We tried the egg rolls which were good but a bit oily. We just dried them a bit with napkins. Beef broccoli was spot on! Loved it. Rice was great and the noodles were perfect. Not soggy or anything. I'm coming back for another review and I have to say I just got my BBQ pork last night My mom went out to CA and since she was in the area she said I had to stop for you! So as always, we got 3 big boxes of BBQ pork since we don't live near Murrieta anymore. This hands down is our stop. You can't find anything out here like this. I have searched and looked and it's nothing like this place. Don't get me wrong I LOVE all the other items they offer but when you're out of town. Hong Kong Express is a nice little mom-and-pop type of spot in a strip mall around the corner from where Stater Bros. is located., Upon entering, we were quickly greeted by a woman, who I'm guessing is one of the owners of this restaurant. Straight ahead you can see the various types of food that's made and you pick whatever combination you'd like. My daughter and I both picked combo C, which lets you pick 3 different entrees that come with chow mein and fried rice. My daughter picked spicy orange chicken, sweet and sour chicken and their teriyaki chicken while I picked their regular orange chicken, BBQ pork, and sweet and sour chicken. Combo C is about $10 which is quite reasonable as their portions are quite generous! Other than our combos, we also ordered their crab and cream cheese wontons. Everything was made fresh, the food was filling and tasty and my daughter was asking already when we'd be back. The owner was incredibly nice and it was nice having a conversation with her about our kids. A nice family establishment with good prices? That's definitely a plus! One of those days that I felt like cheap Chinese food! I was at Lowes and this was around the corner. I came with my dog and when I went inside the server told me politely i can't have him there. Totally understand! So I passed my dog to my husband. My husband went outside with my sweet tomi while I tried to order. However I could not! The food was swarming with flies! It was very unappealing and I immediately lost my appetite. It was so dirty along the food trays and so hot inside. I'd suggest getting AC that works. Not only is it so hot, it's uncomfortable for the worker...in this case the worker was probably related to the owner. If you're going to tell me my clean, groomed, obedient dog isn't allowed, then please practice being clean and hygienic. Often people want to exercise guidelines and rules from the state or cdc or whatever standards you have to abide by, but it doesn't make any sense to me when my dog is cleaner than the food. Sorry, no pics this time bc I was in and out! If I'm in the area and feel a strong desire for cheap Chinese food that's overly breaded or super greasy, ill give the place another shot. Ate here for the first time a couple days ago. We almost missed the place as it was located on the side of the strip mall. The food items looked fresh and it smelled good upon entrance. I chose a 3 items combo - BBQ pork, beef & broccoli and spicy orange chicken. It comes with a combo of fried rice and chow mien. The wife also ordered a combo plate and we added two orders of their crab/cram cheese wantons. I'm not quite sure how to rate our experience here, primarily with the food. The service was friendly and efficient. The fried rice and chow mien had no real taste to them. The beef & broccoli was okay, while the spicy orange chicken was more sweet than spicy. Actually I had only one red pepper on the plate and had to nibble pieces off to eat with the entree to get the zest I was hoping for, otherwise it tasted like regular ol' sweet orange chicken. The BBQ pork was by far the best thing I ordered on the combo plate. Those flavors rocked it! The wantons were also quite tasty. I'm not sure if this is how they roll with their food, or if they reduce any spices / heat from the equation due to American taste buds lagging when it comes to said spice / heat and they try to avoid complainers. I see they actually have a menu as well, with different offerings. I won't say I wouldn't return, but I won't go out of my way to drive here. It was better than any Panda Express, which I have sworn off for life, and Hong Kong Express definitely gives you more bang for your buck. We like getting some quick dinner from here if we are lazy cooking ourselves. among our favorites are the teriyaki chicken which different with your usual teriyaki chickens out there. it taste lighter we just a good balance taste of sweetness. I normally like ordering the sauce on the side. pork bbq is the next go to. I did however, like the noodles. I appreciated that every bite had a hint of white pepper so good job on the noodles. I walked in this tiny restaurant and saw the food looked untouched for a while because you can see some food was drying out. It didn't look appetizing for me. Still, I stayed since I've been meaning to come here because of the high reviews. I ordered chow mein, mushroom chicken, and BBQ pork. Everything was good but not outstanding. My husband thought their food was good. He thinks they deserve a 3.5 stars or possibly a four stars to round it up. I honestly don't see any wow factor to bring it up to a four stars. The food is average. Probably the chow mein tasted better than Cathay's chow mein, but I would choose to go to Cathay than Hong Kong Express. The price here is $6.49 combo for two entrees. Great deals here, meaning the food is quite inexpensive. However, the quality is just not quite there and that makes sense if they can provide it at such a good cost. The orange chicken had a lot of breading, for example, and my tummy was not feeling so good after bombing on the rice, orange chicken and the chowmein. All in all, it fits the bill for "cheap, SoCal Chinese food," and the service was good and the folks kind and accommodating, but yeah, it's just "OK." They have friendly customer service, the sauce options like teriyaki, sweet and sour, and hot mustard were all phenomenal. For the food, we tried the kung pao, bbq pork(my favorite), teriyaki chicken, orange chicken, sweet and sour chicken, broccoli and beef, fried rice, and cream cheese wontons. We went there and and a co- worker, ordered food for each of us and I paid for both of us using one card. The lady owner charged my card $1.00, the fact that this should be considered as a single card transaction. .50 cents is nothing but INTEGRITY and TRUST is IMPORTANT above all things. This practice should be told to the public because this is a complete deception and fraud. If this will be tolerated, how many .50 cents will be charged and will accumulate in the long run where comfort is given to the owner at the expense of their customers. I really like the food here. It's a small family business and they're super nice people. The food portions are always big and the prices, you can't beat it. I haven't had any bad experiences every single time that I have been. Food has always been delicious.
