Listen, this is the worse buffet ever! Outdated, terrible, dry, parched food. Not even the rice tastes good so that should tell you something. They didn't even have the decency to wipe down the entrance windows, clean food from service areas, or even to put up signs on the food stations to let you know what it is! I asked on of the attendants what a certain item was because it had "beef" on a handwritten label, and she yelled at me, ripped the sign down, and said, "it is fish!!!" Unfortunately, it's temporarily closed. Stop by today 8/17/26 and there was a sign stating it would be closed for a couple of weeks for "deep cleaning and sanitizing." I know last year,2025, the health department closed it down for 2 weeks. I think they are having problems keeping the place clean and up to health standards. read more

Please don't come here . The food is not fresh. The meat has been sitting over the heat so long that it's basically jerky. There is so many cross contamination, and the workers just sit in front and talk. I was the only One inside, and there was a mess everywhere.. food all on counters and even on top of Other foods . My party of 4 was there this past Tuesday. We've passed by this place often but never went inside til then. The place is really like 3 1/2 stars. The negatives are a few lukewarm food items and graffiti riddled dividers in the men's bathroom (though all else in it is clean). The coleslaw needs some good colesaw seasoning and the garlic slices more garlic and butter. A couple of the fountain drinks (the raspberry iced tea and the Sprite) were a bit on the watery side while the cherry Tropicana punch was a bit heavy on the sweetness, though totally enjoyable. It may seem like that's a lot of knocks and it is but otherwise most of the food was superb. The baked fish (didn't ID what kind it was) was almost to die for - perfectly seasoned and buttered. The crab rangoon was out of this world. The spicy beef stew (they spell it "stu") was super flavorful, albeit barely spicy (and not really "stewy" as there was no assortment of veggies in the "stu"). The shrimp with jalapenos was amazing and not overly spicy. The crusty nature of the shrimp breading was so wonderful. The General Tso chicken was excellent too. The Lo Mein noodles were tasty and normally I'm not that big of a Chinese noodle person. The baked chicken was good and so was the fried rice. For dessert, the almond cookies tasted authentic and the green tea ice cream, as weird as it sounds, was the icing on the cake, sorta speak, very light green tea flavoring in what I believe was vanilla ice cream. Skip the Chinese sugar buns, however, they were dry and missing sugar coating. And all that's just for starters. I sampled small portions of lots of items. The selections were more than ample - the sides, main dishes and desserts. Didn't see any pork items but the beef, chicken, fish and seafood trays were aplenty. Empty plates were cheerfully and promptly picked up. $78 for 4, which included tax and repeat trips to the fountain (something fewer buffets do these days), may seem like a lot - and it is to a degree - but the unlimited drinks help out. The place is quite spacious so you can visit anytime. Without much work, this place can easily get to 5 stars but something must be done about curbing the bathroom graffiti. Will be back. read more

I've been going here for many many years. They recently remodeled. The service was amazing! I ordered party trays to go and it was a really good deal. The Crab Rangoon was my favorite! All of the food was fresh and well prepared. I will definitely be coming back for more party trays and will be dining in as well. read more

OMG, I absolutely love this place. The staff is amazing and so accommodating. They take my requests and allergies concern seriously. They made a separate batch of food for me, because I was concerned with cross contamination. The food is amazing and always so fresh. Not your typical chinese buffet where food is sitting under hot lamp for the whole day. The bathrooms were clean and easily accessible. The food is good and the price per person is fairly cheap! The staff is always friendly and they always make sure that the food is always refilled when it's getting low. The ambiance of the place didn't really change throughout the years and honestly I'd say the place is due for a renovation! I don't understand the negative reviews. I have eaten here about 5 times. I have had very few issues. My issues have been these. 1. Salad in the salad bar is rarely refilled. ( Very disappointing considering this is my favorite part of eating there. I know, strange, lol. ) 2. The bathrooms are terrible. However, other than those two things, I enjoy taking family to this restaurant to enjoy a "medium quality" chinese meal. However, medium quality is what I expect and I can even appreciate. I've been to Hong Kong Buffet when it first opened. I was only 10 at the time. But we are in 2024, and well things have changed. Food is still good at a point. Will not argue that. But I will say some items fell short. Some items were still semi raw... (bit disappointed). The service is great! The workers are friendly people and are on point to clear your table. Now the setting... it's changed since it opened and you can tell it's aged. Also i cant bare to be the bathroom cause its a mess. No, it's not great. It's a buffet, which means you can load your plate with unlimited mostly room-temperature food that's been sitting around for a while. Having said that: The variety of mostly Chinese options is surprisingly varied -- beef w/broccoli, orange chicken, shrimp stuff, noodles, rice, egg rolls, ribs, surprisingly good hot&sour soup . . . you know the drill. I tried five different entrees; all were OK. Pretty good choice of desserts. Look, it is what it is -- fairly priced -- and overall, they do a nice job. I walked in for a take out after the confirming the price was a solid 3.99 a pound. As I was filling up my plate I was followed around by an older Chinese woman who apparently was racial profiling for reasons unknown. As I closed the to go container, she rudely paces back the register where she over charges me. I did not realize it until I was already home. After phoning them to explain what had occured, I was treated extremely disrespectfully by the management while that same woman was yelling in the background. My husband and I have been going there for many years, as soon as The Gap closed and Hong Kong Buffet opened. The food is good, the price is reasonable, and the dishes are picked up off the table quickly. We missed going there while it was closed. My first thought, after pre-paying. was to ask for my money back, but I thought maybe the food is good despite the filthy conditions. I have been to some crazy good greasy spoon type restaurants and so I was going with that vibe. I should have just asked for my money back. I was afraid to eat the food, I passed on most of the danger zone foods, shrimp, pork, and any other seafood. It was about 7:15 PM when I dined there, and it looked really picked over and not refreshed. It was, health department, should close dirty. Wow, I am surprised at the reviews! But, it really shows you the differences in tastes that people have. I am a guy that will check out chinese buffets. Most people can't stand them, but I will try. I think its great especially the day after drinking. This place sucks in my opinion, I think its one of the worst tasting buffets I have EVER been to. I have been here twice and both times I've had that "eww so much msg and crapola in my tummy I think I am going to burst bile" kind of feeling. Yea, they have alot of stuff and a variety, but, its just not good. I didn't think it was very fresh, I'm not sure if its, that it isn't fresh.. or that its' just not prepared well? This is one of those places that people will either love or hate. It's a Chinese buffet with your regular Chinese American dishes like beef & broccoli, orange chicken, noodles. there's a small seafood selection of steamed flounder & salt & pepper shrimp. Full desert selection of cakes & fruit. Free soda on tap. When we were there the food was hot & fresh. You have to pay upfront but service was prompt & friendly. They brought us soda to the table even though it was technically self-served. Brought balloons to kids next to us, etc. When we were there, there was a large gathering in the private room, with people dressed to the nines. But overall it's a humble place with mostly minority patrons. I loved it, absolutely loved it. Serviceable, fresh Chinese food at a reasonable price. But my family weren't big fans. My room he says that you can only have a bad food experience once. This was it. It used to be that he had very good Chinese buffets in the area. That was over 10 years ago. Many have closed. This one should, too. From it's generic grey exterior to empty boxes stacked in the windows, this place was visually unimpressive. The food is also very generic and a lot of it over cooked. When I called the woman said it was $11.50. Well that was on weekdays only before 3 pm. So we paid dinner price on Saturday and the food was very unappealing. It's sad when you feel comfortable with eating the fruits and desserts only. No one here is able to understand you, either. Definitely a language barrier, but that's okay. This is one of the better Chinese-style buffets on the edge of the Lincoln Village shopping mall. For under $10 it's all-you-can-eat Chinese food, with points for quantity (lots of choices - including seafood) and quality. Besides Chinese, there are other selections like sushi, kimchee, and even mini-pizzas. Sometimes there's fresh pineapple and sometimes canned. One suggestion when coming to HKB, do not come starving! It's OK to be hungry, but not starving! I come here once in a while when I have a crazy craving and I walk around the buffet tables. I scope the food before deciding if I'll be dining here or not. Typically, I'll stay especially since I've already had some misses so I go for the hits whenever possible. The hits: the clams, mussels, the peel yourself shrimp, whatever the fish of the day is, hot and sour soup and glass noodles. I'm typically satisfied with those items when available or I make do with whatever looks OK. I try to take tiny samples of different foods and usually, a small bite will help me decide if it's worth the calories and if it is, I head back up with a fresh plate and refill with the items that are tasty. The misses: most of everything else. It's a China Buffet for crying out loud. My expectations are not very high but I do think it's one of the better buffets in the greater Chicagoland area. It's not cheap for a buffet but if you can find a Chinese restaurant close by that you can get a dish and a drink for under $15 and immediate service, definitely go. Otherwise, just try it out.
