Really love their burgers selection, especially the shrimp patty! Service is friendly and fast as well!
I still like this burger place a lot. Food quality and portions are both consistently good. Crispy chicken burger with crunchy skin and juicy meat. Simply addictive. Way better than those burgers from franchise chains. Real food, big difference. Highly recommended!
Love coming here for my burger fix. Its a small shop in the FMP food court tucked away by the thai place. I believe it's family owned and the staff there are always friendly, patient and hard working. Their menu isn't large but everything is delicious! I love that for the combo they let you choose the side you want; fries. Sweet corn or salad. I also really like that you can choose the type of bun; regular, beet or charcoal bun. The bun is super fluffy, and they way they pack the burgers, nothing gets squished. Literally all their burgers are delicious but my personal favourites are: kimchi, shrimp, crispy chicken. Definitely worth a try!
Been ages since we ate at the food court at First Markham Place. A few changes but this place is still around. Menu consists of burgers, poutine, pastas and salad. All the meat protein burgers start at 7.25 (11.25 for a combo), they have a pulled pork burger that is about a dollar less and a shrimp burger that is a dollar more. The avocado burger is just over 5 bucks. Poutines come in regular and large. The kimchi burger and the bacon butter corn poutine was ordered. At time of ordering we were told it would be about 8 minutes. Verdict? Food was good and very fresh. Generous portion of kimchi in the burger and the lettuce, onion and tomato were very fresh. The bacon in the poutine was impressive, it was the thick sliced pieces and not the regular breakfast bacon you would normally expect. This is a nice option in a food court where options are mainly Asian.
Update : gave this place another shot since we were dining in this food court and felt like poutine. Im not sure if things changed since my last visit, but I now feel that the size was reasonable for the price. Poutine was tasty.
This place is not only out of place in FMP food court, it's uniquely better than most of the other places. Creative burgers and poutine place in a Chinese mall. Food - (4/5) - they have a good selection of unique burgers using a variety of proteins along with bun choices. Had the Beef Teriyaki and it was pretty good. Beef was cooked properly for taste and texture and the toppings and buns are good quality. The burger actually looks like the menu pictures lol. Service- (5/5) - very friendly and helpful with recommendations and answers. It's going to take longer than typical fast food burgers since they cook from scratch but not more than 10 min total. You can tell these guys really care about customer sat. Atmosphere- (3.75/5) - it's a food court so not much else to say. FMP keeps it pretty clean. Overall- (4.5/5) - I want to go back and try the other two burgers that people seem to rave about - Shrimp and Chicken burgers. It's not cheap stuff but worth the extra $2-3 imo.
4 STARS Got some errands done at FMP and noticed we haven't had lunch yet. mr.Tran got a shrimp burger and poutine, while I waited in line for something else. His order took 10 minutes to make since they make it fresh to order. The shrimp burger was really delicious, it came out hot, crispy and you can really see the shrimp in the burger. It tasted almost like the crab claw at Chinese wedding banquets, but in burger form. The bun was black which is different, but it was really soft almost like a brioche bun. The poutine was underwhelming and not the greatest. Fries weren't crispy and gravy was meh. The cheese was melted though. Burger is definitely worth a try, if you're ever sick of the rice box at FMP.
We opted for the beef burger with kimchee and a side salad. I had mine in a beet bun. Burger was a generous 6oz and perfectly cooked. Moist and tender. Delicious! Nicely garnished with lettuce, tomato and cheese. The kimchee added an extra flavour and crunch to it. Everything was fresh. Overall a very tasty burger and great value for the price.
Hong Bo Burger & Poutine is a niche spot in the First Markham Place food court offering Asian-inspired burgers, fries, and poutine for a different option compared to the typical BBQ meats, fried rice/noodles, and dumplings you would typically lean towards ordering. The quality of the burgers was quite good as they have a few different options to mix and match your preference of colours and textures. Whether it's the beet or charcoal bun, you always have to go for the Shrimp Burger! The texture of the shrimp burger reminds me of the Shrimp Lobster Claw that you would enjoy at banquet menus with the right amount of seasoning in the mixture. There is the right amount of condiments which does not take away the overall flavour of the burger. I can't wait for my next visit!
Located at the First Markham Place food court. Gotta give them props for having the cajones to open up a burger/poutine place in an Asian food court. Been to First Markham Place food court more times than I can count, always went for their great Asian food selections but noticed this kiosk in the corner and decided to YOLO it based on previous reviews. Skeptically I ordered the crispy shrimp burger combo (choice of fries or salad, drink, $1 extra for ice lemon tea). Took approx 10 mins to cook up my order. Nice husband and wife operation Choice of either their original, charcoal or beet bun. Went with their original bun which was covered in sesame seeds. Bun was fluffy and moist. As Charlie Sheen would yell "winner, winner, shrimp burger dinner". Ladies and gents, we have a hidden gem. Instead of expecting the normal minced dense rubbery shrimp patty wrapped in a thick flavorless coating when ordering a shrimp burger, you get a nice thick fluffy soft moist chopped shrimp patty in a light coating giving it a nice crunchy crust. Seriously, no other shrimp burger can be compared to this gastronomical delight. Combined with the lettuce, mayo, onions, bun a perfect flavorful alternative to the normal hamburger. The char siu and crispy roast pork will have to go to the back of the line for today Btw, their fries are hand cut and plentiful.
The thing that drew me to try Hong Bo was seeing the shrimp burger on the menu, as not many places offer this! This is what I ended up ordering for my first time here and I was not disappointed. The shrimp patty was so tender, you could really feel my shrimp used and this mouth-feel contrasted with how soft their buns were. Even though they only topped the burgers with lettuce, red onion, and mayo, it was very flavorful. For my second experience, I decided to try their crispy chicken burger. Unfortunately it did not compare to other places and/or how good their shrimp burger was. Even though the meat wasn't dry, it wasn't all too tender either. The batter was kept thin which was nice but could have been crispier and less greasy. The same condiments are on this burger as well, and again, it is flavorful enough. I love their bun options which include the original (sesame bun), beet, or charcoal. These are unique and so soft!
Location/Service This place is right inside the food court of First Markham Place. If you know the plaza enough, there's plenty of parking and now indoor seating arrangements. Service was really nice when I went, especially it was during the peak hours with lines going all across the food choices. Orders took a little longer just cause they require time to assemble and make it on the spot. But appreciate it done on time. Food They have pretty unique menu offering of burgers. I only tried their shrimp one with beet buns. Overall the portion was a lot smaller than I thought, especially it was around $10-$12 or so, definitely felt more like a snack than a meal. The beet buns were interesting, but I didn't feel much difference compared to other (no extra charge was needed to select that one). The shrimp was really good, crispy and soft when you chew into it - and everything else inside the burger complimented well. I see how this place is a craze and IG worthy. But I wouldn't see a regular spot I would hit up. I do appreciate having more variety in the food court, and this is definitely a new fusion take.

This is not your typical burger joint but when I'm craving for one, specifically when I'm craving for a shrimp burger - this is the place to go! I like how they have a choice of bun (spinach, beet, charcoal, original). It's a decent sized burger and have so many different kinds (pulled pork, seafood, shrimp, etc). Been coming here for years and the quality is still the same. I wouldn't recommend getting the combo though...didn't think the corn/salad was anything special and but that's just my opinion. read more
For the price of a McDonald's run, you could do so much better here. The ingredients are obviously fresh and the burgers are substantial. We got the fish burger and the crispy chicken burger, and both were exactly what we wanted as a fast food meal. Also the burgers are super aesthetic, almost like an emoji of a burger. read more
Nice to have a burger place at First Markham. It offers various burgers and poutine. I ordered the original poutine as I wanted to try it out. It was pretty decent for $5. I've also tried their burgers before and they were delicious. They take credit cards too which is a bonus. read more

Hi Ivan, thank you for taking the time to review Hong Bo. We are…
It reminds me of Hong Kong. It's made to order. Their buns have three options: charcoal, beets, or spinach. Honestly, it doesn't have much flavor, and it's mainly for coloring. But it's so pretty. I love the crispy shrimp burger. It was so crispy and full of shrimp paste. Yum! read more

The crispy shrimp burger was delicious! The shrimp patty was made from scratch. Hard to find. Not to mention the beautiful pink beet patty. The staff were super nice and friendly. I also love the iced lemon tea and coffee. Both drinks were amazing! The corn was a nice side. I will come back to try other items. read more
Asian style burgers and pasta! My bf stumbled across this place on google and we decided to try it after reading so many good reviews. Definitely surprised us with how good everything was. . . . Shrimp Burger - 4.5/5 I haven't had many shrimp burgers in my life, but this one was so so good! The ingredients were all so fresh and all the flavours pair so nicely! Iced Coffee 5/5 THIS WAS AMAZING. it's not your typical iced coffee. It has a thick texture, almost milkshake consistency. I would definitely go back just for the coffee. Chicken spaghetti with mushroom sauce - 3/5 Chicken was flavourful, but spaghetti was a bit bland. The mushroom sauce didn't really add any flavour so it was a bit disappointing. Seasoned Fries 4/5 read more
I was blown away by this place! I heard about this place a few months ago but thought it was another marketing/hype thing, so I didn't have high expectations. I got the beet bun with the shrimp patty and it was delicious. The shrimp patty was exactly how I imagined it to be - crunchy and flavourful. The beet bun tasted normal, worked great with the burger. I got the fries on the side. It had some flavoured powder covering them. They were fresh. What took this meal to another level was the iced coffee. It was a $1 extra, and honestly I didn't have high expectations for an iced coffee from a burger place. I don't know how to made it, but I would easily pay $7 for this iced coffee. It was probably one of the best iced coffee I have had. I will definitely be back to try other items on the menu! A hidden gem inside the First Markham Place food court. read more
Not your average burger, or I should say, hong bo bao. We asked the owner for his recommendations and based on that we ordered the crispy shrimp burger with beets bun and crispy chicken with charcoal bun. Order was ready within 8 minutes. Both the burger and chicken sandwich were really good. As for the sides, not much to rave about - fries portion was small, size is comparable to McDonalds' small fries and the iced lemon tea was a bit bitter for my liking. Reasonable price point for the burgers given the quality and speciality of the buns. I'd definitely come back for them. read more
This place is fantastic! Located in a food court, they make a great chicken sandwich. Their fries are also very crispy and crunchy! Prices are very very reasonable. I paid around $13 for a combo. The burger is quite large and very filling. If this place was not located in a food court and they had their own restaurant they would easily charge $20+ for this meal. Therefore, take advantage of their location and enjoy this great deal! I am from Calgary and I am still craving their burger. Will be back someday! read more
Hong Bo Burger & Poutine is newly open at First Markham Place food court. If you have traditional beef patty burgers before only, then I recommend you to give a try on this store. The menu in this store will blow your mind. They have Kimchi burger, crispy shrimp burger, avacado salad burger on charcol bread, or beets bread. This time I ordered crispy shrimp beets bread burger with extra sauce. To be honest, the beets bread taste pretty much the same bread as outside, nothing special but the pink color bread is good for picture. Crispy shrimp taste cruchy and full of chopped shrimp meat. I am not a burger person, but I would like to try all their special burgers. Support this family owned burger place! read more

The lady running the stall was very nice in ensuring I got everything for my order and thanked me when I left - customer service 10/10! I got the pulled pork poutine, shrimp burger with charcoal bun combo with honey butter corn - all super delicious! They came out with other new burgers such as the fish burger, which I definitely have to go back sometime to try. read more
Had high hopes for this burger and poutine store in Markham. Perhaps my hopes were too high. Still a decent burger place, but imo could use more teriyaki and kimchi flavor for those burgers. read more

The shrimp burger I got was really fresh, steaming and crispy. I simply adore shrimp burgers. The ratio of sauce was pretty good although personally I would've preferred a bit more but that's me. I could actually taste the charcoal flavor in the charcoal bun; at times when I get this type of bun it tastes like nothing. Overall would try their other burgers in the future and the staff are really friendly and nice. read more

If you are tired of eating regular burgers at fast food places, make a trip to Hong Bo at the First Markham Place plaza. Known for their colourful buns, they offer Asian inspired burgers, poutine and spaghetti options. Their burger can be made in different style of buns - brioche, charcoal and beetroot. We tired the crispy shrimp burger with beetroot bun. The shrimp patty was thick and juicy, the bun was fluffy but tasted like regular bread. The combo also came with a side and drink, we picked honey butter corn and iced coffee. We also ordered their bacon & butter corn poutine, which was decent. However, their wasn't much bacon or cheese. Crispy Shrimp Burger Combo ($11.25) Honey Butter Corn w/ Meal Bacon & Butter Corn Poutine ($5.50) Iced Coffee w/ Meal ($1) @HongBo.BurgerPoutine Price Range: $3 - $15.75 IG: #The_Yum_Report read more
A bit uncomm to see a burger place opened at the fmp food court BUT they are actually pretty good! Love their shrimp burger. It's not something you can find everywhere, but they certainly make it quite well here. The outside of the shrimp patty is crispy and the inside is nice and bouncy definitely something I would order again from here. Their charcoal bun imo is not anything out of the ordinary but they do have a nice texture. In general, definitely somewhere I would visit again if you want something different with a bit of Asian fusion. read more

Hong Bo is such a gem among the other options at FMP. In fact, this is my 3rd time back! It's so nice to be able to have the option for a burger and poutine in an Asian mall. I ordered the crispy pork burger on a beet bun. I love that fact that you can choose what type of bun you want (the other options are charcoal or regular). I can't really taste the difference, but it just makes it look more appealing and the process more fun. My boyfriend also got the same but a combo where he chose ice coffee. The pork burger was fried to perfection, where it was crispy on the outside but super tender and juicy on the inside. It was also a good size too! Honestly, for the price, it's such a good deal compared to other fast food chains. I also really enjoyed the ice coffee as well. You can just tell that the folks here really care about the food they put out, and I 100% recommend Hong Bo to everyone. read more

Hong Bo is hamburger in Chinese. The bun is made by the store itself so wanna give it a try. I love buns. Unfortunately they don't sell bun only. So I tried the beet (red) and charcoal (black). Bun itself is okay. The surprise is their deep fried shrimp bun. Somehow it tastes like deep fried cram claws, one of my favourite dishes at Cantonese restaurants. Will try this again with original bun. . read more

The shrimp burger combo was amazing g and filling. I was expecting a crabcake sized patty but this was sizeable and hardly any filler. The honey butter corn was delicious. I can't get over the sandwich and wish I could've ordered another. Can't wait to come back and will definitely stop here next time I'm in Markham. read more
I first read the reviews here and found a new spot in FMP that sells burger. So I tried the Crispy shrimp burger with beef buns, with the combo, you get to choose from Fries, salad or Corn. For drinks, you can choose from pop or HK style coffee, tea and lemon tea. Shrimp patty is very juicy and made from scratch, the lettuce, onions are freshly chopped and they are put together nicely. Total for the combo is $13.84 Tax incl. There might be a little wait, because everything is made to order read more
Good poutine. Tried the shrimp burger too reminded me of like the dim sum shrimp crab claw that you would order but a patty version. Crispy chicken was average but freshness of everything is good. Will try other stuff again read more
