It's a cute dive bar located in an alley. Definitely a locals only bar. I hear there's live music at night and it has a rustic barn vibe. Payton is adorable and a sweet bartender. The food options are really limited. And the whole place... is a cool vibe. And if you are into honey wine and like a local place - then this might be your place! We were up in Bellingham for a few days and found this place by chance. We are so glad we did! First, you have to go down the alleyway to get here. Google directs you to the front of the street, but it's behind it, in the alley. Parking right in front of it isn't busy. My husband got the strawberry rhubarb cider, and I got a flight with 5 ciders and 1 mead. All of them were excellent. We especially loved the cranberry and rhubarb ones. We returned to Honeymoon Alley Bar and Ciderhouse (New name?) for one of their Friday night concerts. A wonderful singer/songwriter by the name of Scott Cook performed, accompanied by a woman playing an upright bass who also had a great voice. It was a special evening, and the eclectic crowd was friendly, with ready smiles. The proprietor handled the packed house with aplomb, and her good nature set the tone for the evening. We randomly discovered Honey Moon Mead & Cider while perusing a beer and cider pamphlet. They specialize in mead (honey wine) along with cider and cocktails. They're located in an alleyway but it's easy enough to spot them. They're close to the Bellingham Farmers Market. We dropped in on an early Saturday evening (around 5:00pm). It's a cute spot with a couple cozy booth tables and communal style tables down the middle. There was only one server/waitress working but she was friendly and chatty. There's no paper menu but the main drink offerings are up behind the bar. They also had a bar snack specials and winter special signs. Their mead bottles are $15.99 US. They apparently have happy hour (5:00pm to 7:00pm) but it's not advertised inside. - Chicharrons - bar snacks were complimentary so we decided to try a bowl of chicharrons. Light and crunchy. - Baked mac and cheese - no better way to describe this than it being an adult mac n cheese. Not too heavy. Baked well. - Flight ($10.00 US for 6) - we decided to try three meads (raspberry, orange and wassail) and three ciders (session, cherry-honey and cranberry). Our favourite ones were the raspberry mead and session cider. Raspberry was sweet (but not overly so) and smooth. The session was refreshing and quaffable. Can't quite pinpoint what the flavour was but it was fruity and floral. If you want to try something different, worth a visit to HMM&C. 3.5 stars. read more

Honeymoon Mead was a new discovery for me on my last trip to Bellingham but apparently it's been around longer than I realized. At first with the address I had on Yelp I experienced a struggle in locating this business as it is not located in the front of the street address but behind the building in an alleyway. I was about to give up but glad that I had enough motivation to explore a bit more. Mead is a relatively new thing for me and I have it on a highly infrequent basis unlike cider and beer more to the fact is that mead just isn't as common as the other two. But I'm glad I'm exploring this drink a bit more! Especially here because I had such a wonderful Harvest or Autumn styled mead here that I was completely in awe by it. The drink tasted exactly like my favorite time of year and I probably could have more if I wasn't trying out other drinking establishments on that particular trip. The weather was perfect so I was able to hang out in the outdoor seating area and enjoy! Whenever I'm in Bellingham again I hope Steven gets to come with me because he would be awestruck as well and I'd love to see what other mead options they have at time passes and the drinking list changes. read more

I really do love this place. There is a great selection of meads, ciders, and local beer. Honeymoon hosts some great evenings including Irish & Folk Monday's, open mic on Wednesday with Pace, open mic jazz on Thursday, and Gather Round True Stories on the last Tuesday of the month. Honeymoon is "all ages friendly ". My favorite bartender is Pace. Very friendly and attentive. Also very talented trumpet player. I attend events solo but I feel welcome and comfortable. This is a great intimate location for a drink and entertainment or just a good conversation. If you're terribly hungry, stop somewhere prior to coming here. There's a small selection of food items, but nothing I'd consider a meal. There are nonalcoholic beverages also available. I've been in Bellingham 6 months and haven't found a more comfortable place to spend a relaxed evening. It doesn't get much better than this. read more

Prices are super reasonable, especially for the quality. Good amounts of seating with indoor and outdoor seating options. To top it all off, the service was great. We bought a bottle of their "Reserve" mead. It's hands down the best honey wine we have had in a long time. This one is aged in an oak barrel that gives it really interesting notes, that blend very well with the semi-dry mead. What a sweet lil quaint spot for cider and mead! I hadn't tried mead until I discovered Honeymoon. It's pretty good - the normal/original is my fav! If you're unfamiliar with mead, it's a wine made from honey, so it's really sweet. They also do cysers, with are a blend of mead and cider. They also usually have some sort of amazing dessert from Pure Bliss! The space is sooooo cute! Small little candles lit, fun artwork, and exposed brick create a really cozy space. Most nights there's some sort of relaxed entertainment, like open mic nights! There are two bartenders who are super sweet, Jordan and Devin, who really help top off my good experiences there! read more

I am in the middle of a novel by one of the owners of this brewery, and if the quality of the mead is anywhere near the quality of the writing, it is outstanding. There is a correlation in the care, attention, artistry, and intelligence between brewing and writing. I recommend checking out their facebook page- full of musical events and special performances to pair with you mead and maybe some local nibbles. Last time I was here we bought the full mead flight, and it was really helpful in finding our favorites! The raspberry mead is a classic, and we always ask what the seasonal meads are- spicy, autumnal etc to taste the seasons at Honeymoon. If you're a little hungry, I highly recommend the hummus place- a good size and very tasty. Take a little extra time for parking, and be sure to pay the meter before 5pm. read more

The one with spices is delicious but they feature 10 different meads and we got the taster of 12 to include the meadaritas. Oh wow i need to make me some of these meadaritas they are incredible. The place is hidden and difficult to find as it's off an alley or you go through a restaurant to the back down the stairs.. weird. This rating is on the Honeymood Rhubarb Mead that I purchased at Pavilions. I was really excited to taste it because I like both honey and rhubarb. Sadly, it did not taste like either. I literally had to pour it down the sink. I am not sure if it was a bad bottle or if it's just really bad. It had a very odd almost corn like after taste. The rating would have been a one star since it's something I couldn't ever drink but I didn't think it would be far to rate the establishment a one star based on tasting just one product. read more

This place rocks! Went there for the first time for my mother-in-law's birthday and it did not disappoint. The mead was SO GOOD. We shared the taster that included 12 different choices (anything on tap)! Favorites were the raspberry and blueberry meads (the rhubarb, wassail, and orange were also excellent), and we were also able to sample the ciders (cranberry was yummy!). I love mead, but I think I would love it even more if it were served chilled; that might just be the white wine drinker in me, though. Seriously, no complaints! They also have a lovely outside seating area and it was the perfect September evening to enjoy it. This is a great little mead-bar tucked away down a little alley off E. Maple St. They serve mead, coffee, appetizers (cheese/fruit plate!) and often have really good live music. It's small, so when it's busy don't expect to get a table anywhere, but the crowds are fun and it's not a bother to stand when the music is that good! There are several things that I miss about Bellingham and this is one of them. Honeymoon mead is amazing and I just can't find any mead or any place like this around here. If you're not looking for it you may walk right by and miss it! It's located on State Street technically - or on the back of the building on State street down an alley and directly behind the Farmer's market depot, to be more accurate. It's a charming and cozy little place. I came here once when there was live music and it felt very intimate, but it's just as charming on any other night. A great spot for a low-key get together with 3-4 friends or for a date. I haven't had a chance to try the food but the mead is So. Freaking. Good. I grabbed a bottle of the Ruby last time I was up there and it was everything I expected from them and more. I haven't felt anything but love for all of the meads I've tasted here. This is one of those places that I am worried about putting a good review on hear, for fear that it will be overrun and I won't be able to get a table anymore. The meads here are great, though a bit sweet at times. I recommend the Cyser if you are looking for something a little drier (half cider, half mead). The desserts are just as good. We had a strawberry shortcake covered in real strawberries (not drenched in syrup) and fresh shortcake. Went to hear Flattery ay Honeymoon Mead and was delighted to be introduced to a lovely mixture of Rhubarb Meed and Hard Cider. I can't remember what it was called but I will certainly order it again. It's open and airy and, best of all level entry so wheelchairs can enter easily. The warm brie with garlic was quite enough to fill me up but there are other tasty nibbles too. If you want to hear your favorite band, best get there early since seating can be limited. read more

I came here to see a band that plays monthly on Friday nights and it was both a good show and a good introduction to mead. The crowd was big and lively, leaving standing-room-only; the stage is in the back and the bar is along one side. I hadn't had mead before and the bartender gave me a few samples. They serve only mead, cider and wine, and I believe they brew the mead and cider on-site. The honeymoon experience was great and I highly recommend it for meeting a friend who likes to sip non-beer beverages, or seeing good music inside or out back on their patio. YUM! My husband and I got to go on a date night last Friday, and I had seen this mead featured in Sunset Magazine, so I thought it would be fun to do a tasting. We did the 12 - 1oz sampler for our first round, so that we knew what to get a tall glass of. The brewer was on site, so hearing his recommendations was nice. Once we had picked our favorites, we each ordered a glass and settled in. The ambiance is nice, clean bathrooms, pretty bar. there is a small retail area where you can get swag and bottles. What we DIDN'T know (and should have read yelp before hand to find out!) is that there are live shows on Friday nights. In the span of about 10 minutes, the tiny space went from empty to standing room only. My husband does not like crowds, and I'm not particularly fond either, so we tried to high tail it out of there. The only problem is, we had a tab we needed to close. I had to wait in line behind 20 people to close it, while the bartender (and brewer) worked his tail off to serve food, drinks, and a smile to everyone! That man was doing a GREAT job, but it was quite overwhelming. We left before the music started, because it was honestly too crowded for me. Now that we know to avoid Friday nights (for us, everyone else was having a great time!) we will be back on a week night or a night without music! So yummy, and the service was awesome. read more

This marks the first tasting room I have been to and it is going to be hard to beat. Previously I had only tried homemade mead, but this is the real deal. At Honeymoon then brew the mead right there in the tasting room and you can try every thing they make. This includes not just plain ole mead, but orange, blueberry and raspberry meads along with a sweet dessert wine. The best part is it is only $1 to try each kind and they aren't overly skimpy on the portions. Once you've tried a taste of all of them you can settle on a glass of your favorite. Along with the experience of so many types of meads you can get cheese plates and little desserts. The food is not extravagant, but very fitting for the atmosphere which I love. You could bring a first date here or have an anniversary outing. You can bring a group of friends or just one friend. The room is cozy, quiet, dark and just gives off a vibe of comfort.
