I've had the pleasure of working with several stylists here at Honey, Liz, Lisa, Shiloh, and Dhyana. In a nutshell, I have extremely high regards for this salon and everyone employed here! Technically, everyone I have worked with has been at the top of their game. I came to this salon with pretty terrible grow out from hair colorings done by a different stylist. Lisa and Liz have both done my color here, and both are fantastic in ways I can hardly describe. They have a way with color that is just amazing! Every transition I've made with my coloring has been seamless, and they do so in a way that it looks great in between touch ups. Liz does my extensions, and I am so so happy with this service! Yes, it is spendy, not for the frugal gal, but in my opinion it is a fine haired girl's dream. My hair is naturally quite plentiful, but very fine, and there is not much volume to be spoken of. With these extensions, my hair is the sexy, wavy, thick mane of hair that I've always dreamed of. They look completely natural, nobody can ever tell I have them but I am constantly being complimented on how my hair looks now. Liz gave me an honest consultation, gave me realistic expectations, and in general has been just amazing at every point of this little hair adventure. Dhyana is my new favorite faux-waxer. I was going to Screamin' Eve but after my first appointment with Dhyana and her Sugaring, I am never going anywhere else for my waxing needs. Jamie fix is the most amazing lady around she works her magic and bam you look so amazing she always knows what to say and do so down to earth ... And she is so smart she can explain anything about hair you want to know she is amazing I would recommend her service to any one .... I feel bad leaving such a bad rating but I'm pretty shocked by how terrible my hair ended up looking. I booked an appointment with Devi for a haircut because she was recommended to me by a friend. I have a looser curl pattern and a mullet, and I just wanted it taken in a little at the sides and have the top and bangs trimmed up. She asked if I usually have the sides shaved (I usually have them blended with clippers) and I said yes thinking she meant clipper cut, but she immediately shaved the sides of my hair with a 1 all the way up without asking how short, basically an undercut. I also ended up with microbangs after going back to get it fixed for several reasons even though I specified I didn't want to lose too much length in my bangs. My layers on top ended up so short my hair won't curl anymore. She admitted when she fixed it that we "weren't a good match" and recommended I see someone else with more experience. I just don't understand why she would have gone through with the haircut if she didn't have experience with my hair type. I'm extremely disappointed with my hair and I'll have to wear a hat the next few months while it grows out. read more

Liz did a fantastic job on my hair, which was a copper-colored nightmare until she fixed it and gave me luscious golden locks :) I also go regularly for the sugar waxing and its great- much gentler on your skin but still getting rid of all unwanted hair. This salon is amazing and Teddy completely saved my hair. I went in with a bad color from a different salon and Teddy completely listened, was so thorough with explaining what he was going to do prior to coloring it, and was able to give me a perfect balayage done right. I was referred to Lisa for a haircut by one of my coworkers (who has gorgeous hair). After seeing the same stylist in town for going on six years I just wanted a change. I am so glad I took a chance and tried a new stylist. I absolutely loved Lisa -she did a great job on the layers and overall cut. Kept my length but added body. I have it on good authority she books out pretty far so get on her schedule ASAP! The salon is very nice too -they sell Smashbox which I love and they carry my favorite tea! I absolutely love Honey Salon! I have been going to Marissa since before she co-opened Honey. She is so wonderful and I have never had so many compliments on my hair! The best part about going to Honey is that when I see someone in Bellingham with a really awesome haircut, I regularly ask them who they see and 8 out of 10 times they say they go to Honey! My stylist was very sweet, love her!! I don't notice a huge difference after my highlight, but I did want something more natural. Staff should go over pricing prior to the service so you aren't blind sided when you go to checkout. The receptionist tried charging me for a full highlight, when I only got a partial. Good thing I questioned it! Also, apparently they do not go by their prices that are posted on their website, so I would ask ahead of time how much the service you are getting is actually going to cost, so you aren't surprised like I was. What can I say about Honey that hasn't already been said by the previous reviews? Honey is fantastic! Liz Azzara is an absolute professional, a fabulous person and an awesome stylist. The others at the salon are always happy to see their clients and everyone that leaves there is a happy customer, from what I have seen. When I moved to Bellingham from Santa Rosa, CA, I was in dire need of finding the RIGHT salon. My previous stylist knew my hair (and its quirks) and I was really quite nervous about letting anyone else cut it for me. Well, let me tell you change is good! Liz put me at ease. She thoroughly discussed with me what I wanted done, which is grow my super-short hair out into an A-line bob again. As anyone knows, growing out a short hair cut is not always a pretty sight or a comfortable procedure for the hair's owner. But Liz has been doing such a wonderful job! The services at honey can't be topped. The haircut even starts with a scented oil (of your choice), scalp massage, which is very relaxing. The stylists talk you through every product they use and they are GREAT products. As Kath U. mentioned in her review, the Moroccan Oil and shampoo are out of this world. To top it off, they have a lovely, inviting space, very reasonable prices, changing art exhibits and fun events to attend. Long story short, if you are living here, to pass up Honey as your hair salon is crazy. It is warm, inviting, professional and fun! Oh and another plus, they don't blast their music or have "Diva Stylist" drama like some salons I have gone to in the past! You feel like their whole attention is given to YOU during your time there. I went to Honey to get my armpits sugared and it was amazing! With waxing I tend to get ingrown hairs, but with sugaring it is definitely less! Dhyana is amazing. This is my second time going to her and I am going back in a couple days for my bikini. Honey's environment is so warm and friendly. Their waiting room is comfortable and they have tea and coffee available for you while you wait. The cost isn't bad either. It's only $20 to get your armpits waxed. They do only take cash tips tho. read more

I've tried many different methods of hair removal, and Sugaring is by far my favorite. It's fast and thorough like waxing, but the product doesn't stick to your skin like traditional wax, so the sting doesn't linger nearly as long (and you aren't left with bright pink/red or missing skin like wax can do). After a few years of getting Sugared for brows and bikini area, I decided to try it for the peach fuzz around my face. The fuzz was sparse enough that it hadn't bothered me enough to remove it before - plus I was worried about it growing back darker or thicker. It didn't! Still just light and fuzzy and even sparser than before. Also a BONUS: I've battled with acne for most of my life, and I have noticed that my skin itself has cleared up, maybe because the fuzz isn't trapping dirt against it or something. Anyway, I highly recommend Sugaring as a hair removal method, and Honey Salon is the ONLY place in Bellingham that offers this method. Dhyana is fantastic - she is fun and friendly yet professional, and is very serious about making her clients silky and smooth! I was assigned Lisa randomly the first time I went in and have been thrilled with the results every time. She has mastered a sassy, layered cut for me that is still long enough to "pony" when need be. My colour also looks amazing, natural and lasts a long time. I've seen her 3 times and I'm just thrilled to have a great, consistent pro working on my locks. The only downside to Honey is that it's not cheap. But hey, ya get what ya pay for. read more

I have been a customer at Honey Salon for several years now. I love this salon. My first stylist was Marissa who moved to warmer climes. I now am a client of Lisa. She is totally quirky and fun with a great sense of humor, and let me tell you she rocks as a hair stylist. I have thick wavy hair that is a pain in my butt. Lisa has been awesome at taming my crazy do and actually making it work for me. Besides that the salon is fun and the energy always is good. They also have a makeup artist (at least around Halloween) that can make you look amazing. Highly recommended if you are looking to break up with your current stylist. read more

I used to love honey until I got a chop job. I'm still growing my hair out since July after Lisa left a huge short spot on the right side of my head. Not thrilled. I even showed her a picture and told her I wanted to grow my hair out. It was shorter than ever. Then I got brave and went back for my 3 week complimentary bang trim when she exclaimed oh there's this short piece do you want me to blend it with your bangs ? I about freaked out. Even stopped getting sugar here so I don't have to listen to her annoying voice while I wait a 45 minutes for a 20 sugar job. Try Kaur lounge it's nicer. read more

Disappointed in how I was treated at this salon by the receptionist, Autumn. First, I would like to say that it has now been a few months since I have been in to have my hair done. I wanted to hold off on writing a review until a good amount of time had passed and I knew I wasn't writing based on my emotions but based on facts. When I arrived for my appointment (15 minutes before the start time) Autumn did not say hello or greet me in any friendly or welcoming way. She took my name and simply told me "You're early" and that I could "sit there until it is time for (my) appointment." She also reminded me several times that I was early when I was sitting on the benches reading magazines. I don't understand how this was such a huge deal to Autumn when I was keeping to myself and waiting quietly. I did not expect my hairdresser to start before the scheduled time. I told the receptionist that I understand I'm early, I like to arrive with plenty of time before my appointment out of respect for the hairdresser's time. She scoffed and was visibly annoyed. I brushed this off on her having a bad day. When my appointment was over and it was time to pay she again spoke to me very curtly. She stated the amount I owed and I gave her my card. After it ran through I asked if there were any small tip envelopes so I could leave it with my hairdresser. She became very rude at this point and told me "There are no cash tips at this salon." I said, "Oh okay that's weird I thought I remembered tipping with cash before." She replied very strongly back before I finished my sentence, "Nope. Not at this salon. It's been this way since we started so I don't know HOW you got that idea." (If this was the case, I would have appreciated knowing that before she took my card). I don't know if it was a bad day but it felt like she made a decision to be rude the moment she saw me and nothing could change her mind. I'm new to the area and don't even live in town so it's not like we knew each other or have any sort of connection that would cause her to behave this way. I tried my best to just stay calm smile to try and bridge the gap but she was set on the rude and demeaning attitude. I left the salon and almost felt like crying. It's important to note that the other two receptionists, a young man and young woman (not sure if they still work there) were so kind, helpful, and friendly. They are great. This is specifically about Autumn's inappropriate behavior. My cut was with Lisa. I'm newer to town and I was looking for someone who specialises in cutting curly hair. Her profile on the Honey Salon semed like she was what I wanted. I'm very particular about who touches my hair. I worked a long time in getting my curls long and super healthy. I went in and showed her pictures of what I wanted. It seemed as if the cut was fine, when I left. I was told to come back in a week or two, to see if it needed fixing. I tested out different styles of wearing it to see if it really was messed up. My layers ended up being uneven on each side and the top was flat, which I specifically told/showed her I wanted more layers in top. I ended up waiting a few weeks to call b/c curls can be difficult. They were hesitant to get me back in, but they did. I went back to see Lisa and I told her my issues. She actually ended up making it ten times worse. My layers were still uneven on each side. And to make things worse, she made the layers on top extremely shorter then the rest. The layers didn't not cascade as layers should. I even asked if this would be fine once it dried. I was soooo upset. I will never get my hair cut but her again. I ended up finding a much better stylist, Elin, who specialises in cutting curly hair, at Argyle Salon. read more

It was my first time getting a haircut here and I got an appointment with Roland. I have fairly frizzy and curly hair and he listened to what I wanted and did a great job cutting it and styling it. I was going out later that night and told him that I would need some strong hair spray to withstand the rain and he used the strongest hairspray they had. It held up well and I really loved the haircut (for the first time in a while)! I live across the country now, but if I ever visit again I'll be sure to get an appointment with him again. read more

I walk by this place all the time so when it was time to get my hair cut after letting it grow out for 13 months, this was the first place I thought of. Yelp reviews said it was pretty good and I must agree. The receptionist was friendly and accommodating, the atmosphere was chill, the hair artist was both friendly and informative, and as a result instead of the "homeless guy" look I now have a "guy with long hair" look. I've been having my hair colored by Liz since I moved to the Bellingham area. My hair color is always fantastic & the best it's ever looked. They use a fantastic product line & all of the staff is super friendly & fun. This is not a discount hair shop. Your hair will look fantastic and you will pay accordingly. Don't even bother trying to make an appointment! My boyfriend called to set up an appointment for a simple trim and they told him they could fit him in the next day. He has a really busy schedule so it was really important he got it done at his scheduled time. He showed up only for them to say they gave him the wrong time and that his appointment wasn't actually for another day. Frustrated, he explained that he really needed it done now, and wasn't sure if he could make it the next day. They offered him complimentary beer and wine for his next visit to make up for the mistake, but he's only 19 and they were unwilling to offer him anything else. He accepted the appointment for the next day to see if he could work it around his very busy schedule, but in fact he couldn't. When he called to let them know he couldn't make it and how much of an inconvenience this has been for him, they simply said they couldn't fit him in again until the next week. This has been frustrating and exhausting for him and for me, and he will be taking his business somewhere where they better appreciate potential new customers. read more

This salon is AWESOME. I can't say enough about Marisa, who is one of the owners. All of the stylists have had extensive training, and it shows. I've heard and seen great things about the other stylists there as well, give Honey a try, I bet you'll be back.
