And I called one other company for a second bid. David showed up in time for our appointment, and his explanation of the problem (80 year old mortar in our brick house was falling out). The previous owner had gotten some of it repaired. That mortar was failing, too. I was particularly concerned because one pillar that carries a heavy load was cracked so badly (see photo) that you could see daylight through it from top to bottom. David explained why it had failed, and how the repair work someone had done years ago made matters worse. His bid that was about the same price as the other firm, but his explanation -- and the bid itself -- were so clear that D. Masonry was my obvious choice. He provided me with proof of insurance, too, a request the other company ignored. They lived up to my high expectations. Watching them work, I realized that tuck pointing is a highly skilled craft, practically an art form. They took the time to mix and try a range of mortar colors. With their help, we selected the one they advised. Now that the new mortar has completely dried, I can see it is a perfect color match. The pillar I was so nervous about? They elaborately jacked up and stabilized things, so they could remove the pillar, which they disassembled completely, laying out all the bricks (with all the old mortar removed), so they could put them back exactly as they were, only sturdy now, and good as new. Masonry repairs -- done well -- simply disappear when the work is done, right? As long as I own this house, my gratitude for this job-well-done will live on.

That alone says a lot. This was not a small job. We're talking full interior refresh: walls, trim, doors, cabinets--floor to ceiling, everything. And from start to finish, William and his crew were exceptional. They showed up on time every single day (sometimes early... and politely waited outside until it was time to come in). Professional, kind, respectful--every interaction. They even took their shoes off without being asked. That level of care matters. They worked fast, but never sloppy. Clean, organized, detail-oriented. And when I say they put everything back exactly as it was--I mean it. Which is saying something, because I didn't exactly make that easy on them. The end result? Fernando took the time to protect my grass from the back and forth of removing the concrete he excavated and was very careful around all the various delicate obstacles (valve boxes, wiring, irrigation, etc). My house is highly secure, and to that end I have cameras covering every square inch of it - and it was really fun to pull them up from time to time to see how the job was progressing and watch how he was able to surgically remove concrete attached to the house with a piece of heavy equipment without a single chip of the house going with it. After a horrible experience with a fly-by-night vapid company with suspected fake reviews before this, it was refreshing to deal with someone who worked so hard and was so pleasant to deal with. I paid @ $1,5000. 00 (down the drain) What should have taken one day took three…read more Ramsay came back and did sand the part that was looking poorly, but then he applied a second coat of stain on areas that were already stained that weren't looking okay - hence the uneven finish. (Some of this was due to a neighbor's cat that tracked some paw prints onto the still wet stain) I was informed that I will have to have the ENTIRE deck resanded to rectify this mess as the second coat will never be matte and will peel and blister. Although Ramsay did try to rectify things, they ended up even worse. He didn't seem to have much understanding of the product he was using and left without any goodbye. The previous Boulder Sealwize owner, David, came in 2021 and did a super job, but THIS job was a catastrophe! Warning: do not hire this new owner!

It required cleaning and filling in the polymeric sand and then sealing the pavers. David and crew communicated well what to expect and the time it would take. We purchased a home in late December 2021 and have been gradually renovating the various rooms so…read morethat it's a bit more updated and more our aesthetic. One of our biggest projects to tackle was the fireplace. We envisioned not only keeping it wood burning but making the room feel less like a cave and more bright, cozy and welcoming. We contacted several fireplace vendors and found one that helped with the pieces, but for our actual project we were told "you need a mason." So to the search engines we went. After talking and meeting with a few and getting some quotes, we chose to go with Adkins Masonry and are glad we did. From the beginning, Tommy was fantastic to work with. It's clear through conversation that he's passionate about what he does, and equally clear that he's very talented after looking though his portfolio. In the grand scheme of things, our project was pretty minor compared to a lot of jobs he does, but he treated us as if ours was the most important one whenever we met or discussed it. It was about a year in the making. We had an initial meeting to suss out our vision and come up with a plan. Then my partner and I took our sweet time to make sure we found the right natural stone for the look we were going for. We then started the demo, which was done incrementally as our project evolved over time. It took a while for the stone and hearth to come in, but once it arrived, Tommy was able to really get going. Since we were keeping it wood burning, and since Tommy is a mason, we ended up using brick rather than wood to frame it out which helped insulate it and make it safer. He also placed insulation over the vent, which did not exist on the original, to help protect the electrical and cable wires that ran behind it. We debated putting the TV over the mantel vs off to the side, and we ended up running power for both options to future proof it. Once the brick was laid and dried, he and his crew installed the concrete mantel and the giant hearth (which I cannot even begin to tell you how heavy it was). Next, he began to overlay the stone, first mortared into place, and then grouted to finish with the right color. It was really crazy to watch how each step completely transformed the project again and again. We are so happy with the way it turned out. The room still has a ways to go (floors, trim and oh, furniture) but I cannot recommend Tommy and Adkins Masonry highly enough. He was a complete pleasure to work with.
