We visited three stunning, very private locations and were able to simply enjoy being there without feeling rushed. One thing we especially appreciated was Captain Shane taking so many pictures of us throughout the trip. It allowed us to put our phones down, be present in the moment, and enjoy the experience. He captured some wonderful memories for us. We also asked for recommendations while we were out, and Captain Shane shared suggestions for restaurants and nightlife all the way from Key Largo to Key West, which was incredibly helpful. Looking back on our vacation, this experience was truly the highlight of our time in the Keys. After some initial chop, we made it out to smooth waters and one of the best parts of our Florida trip. We would book another cruise with them in a heartbeat and recommend this cruise company to anyone looking for a fabulous Key West experience.

I got in the water and panicked. Kelly, our guide, expertly made sure I got back to the boat. Spencer, our dive master, helped me up and reassured me the whole time. I got to spend the next couple hours hanging out with Spencer and robin (the captain), which honestly, was a great time. What I loved is how committed they were to safety, and also making me feel valid in my decision to abort the dives. My partner successfully completed two dives and had a fantastic experience with Kelly guiding him. If/when we're back in key west again for diving, we will definitely book with Lost Reef again!!

Lost Reef Adventures...the worst dive shop that I have encountered in 30 years of scuba diving…read more The negatives: The owner, Nick, was extremely unfriendly to the point of being hostile. He had a serious attitude problem and had no idea what the concept of "customer service" meant. He just stares at you, waiting for you to say something...it's really creepy. After telling us to show up at 7:00 for the morning dives, no one from the shop bothered to show up until 7:45. The crew was only okay. The dive master acted like this was an annoyance to be taking us out on a dive...like he just wanted to get this over and done with. He just swam around for 45 minutes until it was time to re-board. The boat pilot told us, "We're not leaving the dock until you get your gear ready." There was one guy (with a mullet and ear rings) that was pretty cool and very helpful. The equipment was fair, but had some issues. The first tank that I hooked up to only had 1200 psi, turns out that 1/4 of the tanks onboard had previously been used and not removed or refilled. The fact that they all had the rubber covers on the valve (indicating a fresh tank) made it very confusing as to which tank to use. My dive buddy's regulator was inoperable. The dives were fair at best. I guess Key West really isn't that great for sea life when compared to the USVI or Belize, buy the dive master didn't even bother to point out sea life. EVERY dive I've been on in 30 years had a dive master that took pride in his/her job and did their best to point out - things to see - during the dive. I told the travel office on the base at Sigsbee not to recommend them. There are vastly superior shops like Southpoint Divers and Captain's Corner that will give you a much more pleasant experience. I dove with Southpoint on all of my subsequent dives in Key West. The positives: The boat was great - lotsa space for everyone, safety equipment was plentiful, and the safety briefing was well done. As I mentioned before, one of the crew (lives in Roatan, Honduras and was visiting his daughter) was very helpful but unfortunately, he was the exception. The BCDs, masks, and fins were fine. There's not really anything else positive that came out of my experiences. Do yourself a favor and use one of the other dive shops in Key West.

The kayaking around the little mangrove island was easy despite the moderate wind. Those easily frightened need not be. Bethany imparted a lot of interesting mangrove facts as we went as well as pointing out the different birds that occupy the island. Not really an island as it's all mangroves and no sand, dirt or rock to stand on. Snorkeling that day wasn't great. It had recently rained and the water was a bit murky but we did see a variety of sponges and a few fish. The sail back to port was relaxing, snacks were put out, pineapple and those chunky pretzel things, and for a bit, all was right in the world.

Captain Melanie = unsafe boater/captain with numerous complaints to the Coast Guard I have reported her several times, while anchored in various locations in Key West. I am NOT the only one. She weaves the boat in and out of anchored boats, frequently traveling at a high rate of speed. This throws a dangerous wake to those anchored. LEGALLY SHE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR HER WAKE. I have had her drive over our anchor lines in the past, thus the previous reports to the US Coast Guard. On the evening September 2, 2017, I contacted the Coast Guard in regards to her traveling at top speed between myself and my anchored neighbor whom is only approximaty 80 feet away. At slack tide, we can be only a few feet away. This company will take you out in dangerous conditions. Meaning there are high winds, rough seas, etc. Frequently, there are small craft advisories in effect while they are taking you out. ITS ALL ABOUT THE DOLLAR. NOT YOUR SAFETY! In fact, the National Weather Service doesn't define "small craft" and the terms have nothing to do with the length or width of the boat at all, according to a NWS spokesman. So, does this mean you will be safe during a small craft advisory? Probably not with Melanie behind the wheel! When these cautions are in effect they are weaving you in and out of other boats that are anchored. It's NOT safe. JUST AN FYI- If you are looking to see dolphins, GOOD LUCK! We might see them once every 2 months or so and we live on the water! I will be asking for the manifest of passengers from this evening, perhaps further damages will be coming out of the pockets of those that have in whole or partially chartered this vessel and may be named in the upcoming lawsuit. Luckily, myself nor a family member was injured this evening when she came flying by! A whole pot of scalding soup came flying off and the table broke from the wall. Couple of words or advise...lawyer up or stay off this vessel!!! UPDATE: SINCE LEAVING THE BOAT TO GET SUPPLIES TO CLEAN UP HER MESS, I HAVE SLIPPED AND FALLEN DOWN THE STAIRS! read more

My husband and I came to key west for our 25th anniversary and hadn't really planned to do a dolphin watch / snorkeling tour. THANK GOODNESS our concierge Angelique told us about Honest Eco!! At first we thought it was too expensive but after reading about the company online, we decided to give it a try. BEST DECISION EVER. Our captain Katie and her first Mate Kelcie were extremely friendly and knowledgeable, and their boat 'The Squid' was extremely comfortable. Kelsie gave us a very interesting talk about the geography of the Keys while Captain Katie expertly navigated us to where we could see dolphins. We followed this up with snorkeling through a sponge garden to see all kinds of fish and interesting wildlife (no sharks!). Topped it off with a sunset sail back to dry land. This was a special trip for my birthday with my mom and sister. I love dolphins and wanted to see them in the wild. I wanted to pick a tour company where we had a small party of people and knowledgeable crew of the marine life in the Keys. This tour did not disappoint! We found dolphins not once, but twice. We saw a group of juvenile dolphins on our way out and Hangnail, an adult female, on our way back in. The crew was amazing. I loved hearing all of the facts and stories about the wild life and Keys. This was our second time booking with Hinwst Eco on our 2nd trip to Key West and again the experience did not disappoint. If you go to Key West you must book a trip with them. We had an amazing time. First the snorkeling is wonderful and the captain and first mate took excellent care of us. Made sure we were safe and had a pointed out fish and beat parts to look. Capt. Alexa with Mates Heather and Sarah led us on an amazing adventure kayaking the mangroves and snorkeling on the reef. The ladies were so professional and knowledgeable about all that we did and saw. I felt completely at ease on this trip. We saw so many fish, turtles, and birds. Did the dolphin watch and snorkel excursion on the Squid this morning. The crew motored our group out to some great dolphin watching off shore from Key West. After an hour or so of that it was onto a snorkeling site. We had great weather and calm seas so everything was ideal. I loved it so much and I took so much advantage as a 13 year old, we had two girl captains and they were the sweetest! We went snorkeling in really shallow water that was like 4 feet deep in the far sea it was so crazy cool! The catamarans were easy to drive. Our guide was great and took pictures and shared them with us as well as the route we took. We were in a larger group and did not leave on time. The guide told us to not worry as we would get our full time on the water. He was right we spent 2 hours and 10 minutes on the water. Just that would say that they are an honest and above-board company! We took drinks and ice. They had a cooler for us to use. The navy was doing touch and goes from their base. We flew under the jets and it was one of the coolest things that I have done. You could almost reach out and touch the planes with how low that they were flying. I can't wait to be in Key West again to take this tour.

Guide was fun, had some facts about the wildlife but was young and didn't grow up in the area so a learned speech kind of situation. He let us kind of go at own pace. Saw one shark before we even left the dock but jellyfish, crabs, fish mostly on the water. Would probably try a different company next time just to see the difference but had a great time doing something we've never done before!

My wife and I have been on group paddleboard tours and we've been paddleboarding where you're just sent out on your own for a certain amount of time, but we've never had a guided tour like this. It was cool because we'd never been to Key West, while our guide knew the lay of the land like it was her own backyard. She gave us a path and a purpose, which I really liked. When we go out on our own, we tend to just aimlessly wander, but that definitely did not happen here! Not only did we have a path, but we were educated about different things along the way, and just about life in Key West, in general. Because I'm a terrible person, I don't remember our guide's name, but she was awesome! The only issue I had was getting our trip booked. I actually purchased the Yelp deal, which saved us some money, but I didn't want to end up booking online because I'd already paid for the Yelp deal. I kept calling them over and over again, but never heard back from anyone after leaving messages. Finally, the morning we planned on arriving, we called and someone actually answered the phone. He was woken up by the call being forwarded to his phone and sounded frazzled. He said he'd been working at a bar until the early hours of the morning and that his partner was supposed to have answered the phone. Regardless of that weirrdness, he quickly called around and got us a guide before calling me back to let me know when to show up - which was ASAP. It definitely wasn't the most conventional way to book an appointment, but we made it and really enjoyed it!

After reading a bit more info on this biz's site, we decided to take an afternoon tour which started at 1:30. SUP Key West also offers morning and sunset tours, but this ended up being perfect timing for us - we could sleep in and let brunch digest before hitting the water. Now, for the tour. Our guides name was Brian, the owner of SUP Key West. Booking online was a breeze and $45 per person. Once we arrived, we met the other two in our group, grabbed some life jackets (optional to wear but must be on the board) and took to the water. I love being active but wouldn't consider myself "outdoorsy." That being said, I don't know too much about the mangroves or the ecosystem surrounding the Keys so this whole experience was really eyeopening. While we drifted through the mangroves, Brian talked about how they were formed, gave more info on the birds we spotted and pointed out the sea life, even picking up and passing around sea cucumbers, jellyfish, sea stars and algae. To top it all off? We saw a nurse shark! His enthusiasm for the environment was contagious and had me eager to learn more. About halfway through, he asked if we had immediate plans and since we didn't, we took the long way home so the tour actually lasted a little over two hours. It wasn't a huge workout until the very end when we were battling some winter wind. By the end of it, I was exhausted. Brian brought along a cooler of water which was nice in case you need some hydration along the way. All in all, a different activity to do while in Key West. This was my boyfriend's first time paddle boarding and left a great impression so hopefully I can get him on the water a little bit closer to home next time. Whether a local or a tourist, I'd say it's definitely worth taking part in.

The positive side is you get to bring your own alcohol and food if you want. We chose to eat dinner at the Conch Republic seafood house before we boarded. And of course I brought my wine on board. We boarded at 6:15 pm and were greeted by a crew of three. Captain and two mates. They were all awesome full of knowledge answering all our questions while tending to the boat. They are known for their cannon which is fired at other ships veering too close lol. We had a quiet group of 18 souls on board but it was my first time on an actual sail boat so I totally enjoyed it. I highly recommend this as your option if want to avoid the huge boats.
