We drove up and before we could get out of the vehicle or see any signs someone closed an open door. A young man exited that same door looked straight at us and proceeded to walk away to the trash. After sitting there a few minutes we noticed it was drive through only although they had a seating area outside and a walk up window. I can say we didn't eat here nor will we ever. I really wanted to give it a go but the imposed attitude done it for me. If you are looking for drive through food maybe give it a go. Just not what I'm looking for today. read more

Houma has a reputation as being somewhat of a food desert. With the addition of honest Abe's they've taken a step forward and solidifying the reputation. I was unimpressed. My pulled pork sandwich was loaded with pulled pork but I did not particularly care for the barbecue sauce. I didn't care for the texture of the pulled pork. It was soggy and soaked my bunas you can see in the picture. It's hard to mess up a french fry and the baked beans were just about average. All in all I'll be surprised if this place makes it a year. Friday is supposed to be the specialty of the house where they take all of the meats from the weekly specials grind them up and put them on a single sandwich. It doesn't even sound good. My wife and I ate here, and only had one regret. That being the fact we hadn't discovered honest Abe's earlier! The brisket, pulled pork, beans and slaw were delicious. My favorite however were the ribs, generously sized and fall off the bone delicious. It's a casual atmosphere, and kind of small so visiting during quieter times is probably best. The wings seemed popular also, but will have to try those on the next visit. I notice some of the earlier reviews mention kinks or issues from opening. I can say that in my experience. All was perfect. This is definitely a restaurant I will be happy becoming a regular at. Well done honest Abe's! read more

If you love bbq, you have to try Honest Abs. It's a great mom and pop, locally own and greatly cared for. Its clean and friendly. The brisket is soo tender, ribs well seasoned, sides were great. The portions are great for family/friends share and you wont leave hungry. I can't wait to come back and try more on the menu. read more

Had the brisket and pulled pork. The brisket was dry and soaked in some sort of juice that robbed it of its natural smoked flavor. The pulled pork was not tasty and over sauced. Baked beans had too much pepper taste. No homemade sweet tea or cornbread...Very disappointed with this southern bbq. On a good note, the cheesy garlic bread was good. read more

The lunch I had today was disappointing. It didn't seem like the brisket had much flavoring. I didn't notice any type of smoke ring so that could be why. Fair warning, their sauce is sweet. I wasn't a fan but to each their own. For my sides the mac and cheese was okay but the beans seemed overcooked to the point it had the consistency of refried beans. It was like a baked beans paste. Also the place itself seemed just as hot as it was outside. Wouldn't want to eat in there. As a bonus I found a hair in between my slices of brisket. I have to say that the food here isn't bad. My issue with them is hours. One day I had a craving for mad and cheese and showed up here an they were closed - on a random Saturday! Another example. Today I called them, no answer. And their Open sign is off so I believe they are closed. Like, who just is closed on a random they you are supposed to be open? I get once or twice, but consistently!? So I would advise anyone trying to check this place out to CALL BEFORE you show up. Because it apparently is nothing for them to just be closed on a random day that they are supposed to be open. This restaurant is in the startup phase. The owners have a lot of kinks to iron out, so take their novelty into consideration. I've been to their location on Grand Caillou Road and now their most recent location on Corporate Drive. There is a better dining atmosphere in the new location. While their manpower and business hours are still underwhelming, their food and personability is nothing short of exceptional. Try them out during their slower hours until they get more employees, and you will have a phenomenal experience. Their food alone is worth the five stars.
