I used to come here for all my vehicles maintenance and I gave them a lot of business in the process. I knew I was over paying but I thought I was getting good quality service in the meantime. Until I had an alignment issue. I took my car here for an alignment and when I came to pick it up and they said they didn't have to do anything, it was all in spec. As I drove off my steering wheel sat crooked even though it didn't pull. Turned around and brought it back only for them to tell me, "oh, we can't fix that. You have to bring it to a Honda dealer to fix that". Still charged me anyways. I've never been back since and I won't ever go back again. read more

I need rear brakes and rotors so I thought I would give them my business. Upon arriving for my appointment I asked the guy behind the counter about the coupon and he said " we will just use whatever coupon works best for you once we determine the dollar amount". After My inspection they quoted me $650 to install 2 rear rotors and pads. 3 different places in the area quoted me under $500 with Midas MG being $439. Not only are they dishonest but way too expensive. no free inspection just a bad review. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones it only cost me $47 to find out this place has no honor. We have used Honest 1 for years. Kind and friendly service and always took them at their word. Until recently. Our parking brake was stuck and they told us they could not unstick it because everything was rusted. We needed a new parking brake and other parts. The grand total was over $1200. I got a second opinion because our van has over 220,000 miles and is on it's last legs. I asked if we could forgo the new parking brake parts and they said no. Que the second opinion... Another auto shop in the area took a few minutes to unstick the parking brake and said everything else was fine. A total of $30 was spent. The guys at Honest 1 are some of the kindest people but after this experience, it seemed it was just a way to gain trust and take our money. Sorry Honest 1. I took my car in for 2 things and they didn't even address one of the items. Instead they found problems and then a couple hours later a few more problems - from $2200 estimate up to $2800. I really wanted to like this place. I was hopeful I had found a regular, reliable home for all of my car's maintenance needs. From what started with a standard oil change, through a series of failed repairs and missing appointments, it turned out not to be the case. Do you know how crushing it is going out to your car morning after morning to see a flat tire you were told was fixed? It is less anger and more of a sinking, hopeless feeling. You leave your car in what you are sure must be professional hands, only to be let down. And it is disappointing! Rick and Jim on the staff seemed really nice, but in the end just did not or could not deliver on the quality and service I needed to keep me and my car on the move. And I am envious. Reading through other reviews here--if they are real--Honest-1 Maple Grove should be hitting all those expectations and more. I'll scratch my head and wonder why my case was different--why they couldn't meet me with the friendly, fast, and consistent service they are seemingly known for, and I'll move on. Couple bad experiences. Close to home so got an oil change on our 2015 BMW 328xi, after 2 months of driving it our battery quit charging. Found out oil had slowly leaked out of the oil filter cap which could have been over torqued or loose, affecting the o-ring's sealing ability. Oil leaked onto the serpentine belt and caused it to slip off the alternator and other pulleys. When we took it back in, they claimed this was due to the driver driving aggressively building excess oil pressure. The shop manager claimed they do over 1000 oil changes there, are experts and make no mistakes. That this was caused by how we drive the vehicle (this is not a race vehicle nor we drive it as such). They claim they would have to use a better oil filter for this application to prevent this from happening (which wasn't offered to begin with). Right then and there I lost respect for this shop. 1st for saying you can never make a mistake, mistakes happen to everyone, probabilities point more towards an improperly torqued oil cap. Asked how they torque the oil cap and their response is "by hand until tight". There is a torque spec by the manufacturer which was ignored by their "experts" (25 nM). 2nd for suggesting me to "upgrade" oil filters on a stock vehicle, manufacture spends years testing and developing the vehicle with standard oil filters for a reason. The $60 oil change turned into a $289 bill since we need a serpentine belt and an oil change. Shop manager is not open to rational conversation, will treat you as if you were stupid sadly, just very arrogant. Dis-honest 1, have lost a good customer which had been going there for 5 years simply because of how they treated us, how they claim they make NO mistakes, and how they offered no resolution but to swallow the bill due to their mistake of improper installation. Save your money and go somewhere else that will value your business and treats you well. read more

I disagree with the overwhelmingly negative reviews, though I only have limited experience with Honest-1. 1. I do not feel they push unnecessary maintenance. They do try to upsell, as is their job, but they did not tell me my car needed service that it did not. I was easily able to refuse services I did not want. In fact, they ran an inspection of my car and called me so I could select services I desired. They told me less was wrong than I had previously assumed. 2. Pricing was fair. 3. I was offered a shuttle home both times I had my vehicle serviced. 4. They have beverages and snacks in the lounge - and hey, so do most places, but I am a simple lady. 5. Their service people are friendly. They have 2 gentlemen at the front desk who know how to personalize service. I had initially called requesting pricing on a coolant flush and was offered a diagnostic first after being asked about the specific issue - they really do want to get down to the root of the problem. I was told I could come in immediately and was provided an accurate timeframe on the diagnostics and repairs - was well communicated with throughout. On top of that, as soon as I walked in, the gentlemen I spoke with on the phone had his coworker take the other customer in the lobby so that he could personally assist me, as he accurately assumed he was the one I had already spoken to. It made getting the service request in quick and painless. He then shuttled me home. 6. When I paid, they waited a ridiculous amount of time for me to find my coupon. (Stupid app would not load!) I certainly have no complaints and would happily return! read more

My 23 year old daughter brought her car here for an oil change and inspection. They told her that one of her front brakes had stuck, worn the pad out and it was close to being metal to metal. She was also told she needed rear brakes and rotors. My daughter came to me for help. I ordered brakes and rotors for her car upon the advice of Honest-1 Auto Care. When I went to install these parts, much to my surprise, I found nothing wrong with her brakes. The front pads (all 4) were at 70%, not one being close to metal to metal. The rears were at 60%, rotors perfect shape. I'm very disappointed in this company and am appalled that they would take advantage of people like this. I brought in my SUV for an oil change. Rick D, was extremely kind and friendly. I had both my kids with (toddler and baby) and he made my experience very pleasant. I appreciated him giving me a discount on my oil change even though I printed the wrong coupon. Also there seems to be a sense of honesty unlike a lot of auto shops. He did not try to sell me stuff I did not need. I ended up getting one extra add on, but he confirmed with me PRIOR to just doing it to my car. I also love that they send you a report to your phone of what things they did and recommend you need done!! Im very happy with my experience and will make sure to only take my cars there from now on. Would give zero stars if I was able. I have been a consistent customer for oil changes for a couple years. My last oil change resulted in an oil related check engine light. They replaced a sensor for $200 (after they quoted $400 and I said no way...). Two weeks later the same error code came back and I took the car in. They wanted another $400 to fix it. It was the same sensor they just replaced! I replaced it myself and found there was oil pooled in the wiring connectors and wiring harness. After I cleaned it, my code is gone. This place is really sketchy. They will tell you lots of things that are wrong with the car and charge you out the nose. Stay away. read more

We started bringing our car here for oil changes because when the shop in Maple Grove first opened, they went around our neighborhood selling coupon books. We only bring our vehicle here for oil changes. Lately, every time we bring it in, they are "noticing" major issues that need to be fixed. The latest one was that there was a leak in our transmission and the fluid was dirty. In reality, we just had the transmission flushed and repaired within the last 6 months. Flushes are needed every 100,000 miles so there is no way the fluid would be dirty within 6 months. That was an outright lie. We were also told our spark plugs needed replacing. Those, too, were replaced at that same time by our very reputable mechanic. When we told this to the admin who called us, she said she didn't see it in the records. However, your records should also show we don't have any repairs done there! Don't trust what they tell you. Be sure to get a second estimate! Hope to God they aren't causing issues so they have something to repair. Based on other reviews and my own experience, it just reconfirms in my mind just how DISHONEST they are! Employees have attitude too! Find a more honest place you can actually trust! Don't be fooled by their name! read more

Do not trust Honest One Auto Care in Maple Grove! My gas lines froze because of the cold snap, this initiated my deciding to take my car in to #honestoneautocare for a tune up as I'm going to be doing a lot of traveling soon. I explained what happened and left my car with them. I received a call with a quote of $680 worth of fixing, I was shocked and said I needed to come in to understand what needed to be done. When I came in they quoted the "real price" ... almost $1200 worth of work that HAD to be done. I became suspicious and so went and googled the things they were going to charge me for. They we're going to charge $560 for a tuneup; Midas charges $200. They were going to charge $540 to replace a valve cover gasket. I found a link concerning this as well, the piece costs $30 with a 5 step 'wiki how' on how to replace it. -_- Clearly this job could be done in under $300 EASY, these guys are just plain cruel. Seemed reasonable at first, used to get oil changes at this location because it was convenient. They were professional with the Oil Changes and did everything efficiently. Recently my girlfriend brought in her car because it was making a noise (seemed like something rubbing near the tires/axel). She signed up for a 1 hr Comprehensive Diagnostic, 20 min later they called and stated her Right-Front Wheel Hub was loose/worn and it needed to be replaced and that it would cost ~$900. My girlfriend and I drove to Honest One to discuss the diagnosis and they immediately said they could reduce the price (to ~$500) with Non-OEM parts (an option they never gave my gf). We deferred service, but they did charge us for the full 1 hour diagnostic (even though there is a half-hour option and it took 20 min). We took the vehicle to a Family-Friend Mechanic across town and had him do the work. Turns out it was the Left-Front Wheel Hub that was problematic, but that the noise was coming from rusted Tie Rods. He stated the tie rods were so bad the wheel could have come loose on the highway if not fixed soon enough (something the Comprehensive Diagnostic failed to pick up). Hindsight, it would have been dangerous to let Honest One complete the services they recommended. Unfortunately, we will not be returning to Honest One Auto Care, even if it was a convenient location. read more

I took my car to Honest-1 several times and thought they were a great shop until I kept having issues with my car. I took it in for warranty work and they ended up keeping my car longer than expected. They called me saying they were having issues with wiring and so on. Than later they got me all worked up saying my remote start was properly installed so I went back and forth between the shop I got the remote start in and honest-1 only to find out they were freaking out about my amplified subwoofer cable grounded to the battery. When I got my car back it was damaged, pieces were missing, and screws weren't put in properly so things were flopping around. Fast forward I take my car to a Chevy dealership because my key fob stopped working and they said honest-1 lost the wire that reconnects the key fob. Almost 2 years and I'm still having issues that I originally went to honest-1 for. The customer service deteriorated the more I called with concerns and complaints to the point I would get hung up on. So this shop is not so honest. I have had other honest-1 shops tell me not to come to this one because they have seen to many problems come out of this location. So, thank you so much for paying for half the issue to be fixed in my car but doesn't replace the money I've spent and continue to. read more

My daughter and I stopped here in an emergency because she was having problems with her transmission. The guy behind the counter was cocky right from the getgo and promised us the repair would cost anywhere from $19 TO $1800. WISH I would have had a tape recorder. An hour later while we stopped at this FABULOUS Fantastic Sams around the block, this "JOKER" called and said it would cost $5100!!!! Oh and by the way, he says your water pump is out, and I wouldnt suggest driving. The place was clean, and they did get my daughters Tahoe in right away...thats is the ONLY one star they get. I brought my car in this morning for an oil change with the coupon I attached. I showed one of the employees the coupon while I was checking in and he said the actual price is $40. I showed him the coupon and he said that it was pretty obvious that the $24.99 price was for the standard oil change and nobody has read it the way I did. I would have just sucked it up and m paid the $40 since I loaded up the kids and I was there anyway. The guy's attitude was so bad and rude that I just couldn't do it. He is just a condescending jerk. Check out the coupon I attached. It says synthetic oil change. Classic bait and switch to get people in the door. This place has deteriorated quickly over the last year. The original employee that was helping me was instantly condescending and then hostile. The manager was fine. Last time I went there, I paid for a tire rotation, mount and balance. The rims were covered in salt and when I stopped to get gas on the way home, I looked at the rims and saw that they weren't touched. I called and the manager checked with the tech and he "forgot". Also, said I had a coolant leak and I paid for a flush because they said the old coolant was causing the leak. It turned out to actually be a transmission fluid leak from a line. I took it to a real mechanic when the leak didn't stop. I'm done with this place. They take advantage of people's lack of knowledge of vehicles and charge people for things they don't need. They diagnosed it with all 6 coil packs failed and wanted to fix it to the tune of $1800 replacing all coil packs. I brought to the dealer and they replaced one coil pack and sent me on my way no issues since. The second thing they tried to do was sell me a "computer Tune" to the tune of $400 I talked to the Lexus dealership and they told me that doesn't exist and would never recommend a non lexus place to tune fuel maps and air ratios just a big scam for them to get more money out of you. do not take your car here you are throwing your money down the toilet if you do. read more

My opinion after three separate visits with different cars is meh. They're definitely not my first choice, but also not my last. There are several nice older gentlemen at the front, and one that seems to have a chip on his shoulder which causes a sarcastic snippy attitude. The pricing seems to be different every time I've had my oil changed, and they are always trying to tell me I need something else done (that of course comes with an outrageous quote). I would say it's because I'm female, and they probably don't think I know the blinker fluid joke, but the same situation happened to a male friend where they tried to tell him he needed repairs that were going to cost $1200, when he only went in for an alignment. The downside is- I'm not a mechanic, so I don't know if they're telling the truth or not. I'm always apt to trust the pros, but it's the forcefulness of them telling me I NEED to get something done that sounds my internal alarms. We recently moved to Rosemount, MN and I received a coupon from Honest1 Auto Care for $15 off an oil change with free diagnostic testing. At the time of check in, I had an engine light and another light on. They said it may cost another $75-$150 for diagnostic testing. Stupid me continued on with the process. An oil change (synthetic blend), tire rotation, and diagnostic testing to identify I needed a new thermostat cost me$169.00!!! I learned from O'Reily Auto Parts my diagnostic testing would have been free if I went to them. When I pulled my car out of Honest A-1 Auto Care my tire pressures were 24 and 27 on the left side and 34 and 35 on the right. Sorry I ventured away from Tires Plus in Apple Valley who has always had my back. Never again will I go back to A-1 Honest Auto care. read more

I have never had this type of service at an auto shop before. Their name does not match how they do business. I was in a bind and had to get my car towed there they quoted me $939 for a radiator and hoses, not to mention $145 just to look at my car. Called around got quoted at $300 if it needed hoses. Called "honest" back to let them know I would be getting it towed to another place for a way better deal, all I got was attitude and rudeness. Total I paid $270 for the repairs and shop fees at another place. We all know car problems already bring on stress, anxiety, and worries. Honest-1 has been doing the family oil changes this year through their loyalty card with no complaints. Became concerned about brakes on our Sante Fe and had to leave the next day for a road trip, so took it over to them. Brakes and Rotors cost over $900 - it seemed high but I was "over a barrel" and had them do it. Checking after the fact, their charges were about 50% higher than what my favorite mechanic (Skip's Auto in Crystal) would have charged. Labor was high, some parts were double the cost of elsewhere. The work itself seems to be ok, but the price was outrageous. If you want something done, a couple of quotes from others and compare. Learn from my expensive lesson! read more

This place is not great. Their front desk folks are very rude. I am a foreigner and I am used to getting rude behavior from people but even in my standard I feed these guys are rude. They will inspect your vehicle and tell you all sorts of things that needs to be fixed and if you don't do it then they will get mad at you. Would rate lower if I could. Originally I felt they were a trustworthy great shop. In November had headlights replaced in my Volvo. In July had one burn out. Called the store and they were happy to replace both headlamps under their warranty. Got in the same day I called - quick in and out - thought all was great. HERE COMES THE BAD PART..... On the weekend I went to wash my vehicle (which I do by hand) - Noticed some deep gouges and scratches around the headlamp that were very fresh. I called the MG store and and questioned them. Rick told me he check with his service tech and was told they did NOT scratch my vehicle (I had sent them pictures) and that in fact they didn't even pop out the headlamp assemble and everything was done from under the hood. Well then...... I knew this could not be done BUT to double check I called 2 Volvo stores and asked how to replace a headlamp - I was told the assembly MUST be taken out and the bulbs are replaced this way and it cannot be done from under the hood only. So with this I will say I can not recommend this shop for service. - If you do go there be careful with what they do and say. read more

First time visit. I came in because I had some brake lights and a blinker go out. I was worried it was electrical, but they got me in on a Sunday and checked and luckily it was just a bulb replacement. I asked them to do an oil change (I usually sit at Jiffy Lube for at least 45 minutes), so they changed oil and four bulbs in 30-45 min and the price was great! The guy was very nice and didn't try to up-sell me; offered to rotate tires and didn't push when I said no, just made a note on my paperwork to get that done. This was some time ago at the maple grove location-the guy told me my car needed a very expensive part that was only at one location in the U.S., coincidently right next door in Brooklyn Park. He scared me into thinking that if I didn't agree to the work immediately, that someone else would buy the part first and I'd be screwed. He got angry with me with I went elsewhere for a second opinion. Turns out he was outright lying to me. They had the part in several areas, for only $20. As a female I find it intimidating to go into auto repair shops but honest one lives up to its name and is totally straight with me on what is needed or not needed for my vehicle, the prices are reasonable, and they are not at all pushy or trying to sell me some air filter I don't need like jiffy lube does every time I walk in. Alex greets me by name when I walk in the door and actually knows who I am, what vehicle I drive, etc. It makes me feel like I'm back in my hometown where I actually know the people I'm doing business with.
