Especially this was the Saturday before the "Snow" arrived in Charleston. It would have been easy to not offer service due to an early closure, but it was not. 5-Star service. Cb

Let me start by saying the staff is always friendly. When you walk in, those working the registers, checking you in/out, etc. are always a pleasure to work with. While I have also had a positive experience with the techs, however, their attitude is not genuine. Recently I took my car in for new tires and an alignment. Long story short they put on the new wheels but said they couldn't do an alignment without first installing new balljoints, bushings and "might as well do the whole package and add control arms even though they're fine". Bringing what would have been a $600 job to $1,4000. Balljoints are $15-30, bushing $40- but if we wanted to do the "whole package" you're looking at roughly $200 max for a job that takes 1-2 hours. So where is the extra $600 coming from? Labor, right? Nope! Turns out Gerald's is overcharging an outrageous amount for parts. The numbers weren't adding up and I told them the new tires were fine and to bring my car down. I called a friend who has a renowned shop in Charleston for a second opinion because I had a gut feeling something was wrong. It was there he confirmed Gerald's was trying to screw me over and that my balljoints were perfectly fine and while the bushings had some wear, nothing was severe and they could have done the alignment. (Their shop successfully did it by the way with no issue and no issues popped up on my car from doing so. I also heard several horror stories from cars they had received after being at Gerald's.) I was able to inspect the balljoints and bushings myself and can confirm, everything was fine. Last year (January 2025) I had taken another car in for mechanical issues which I was overcharged for as well, so this isn't a new problem Gerald's is having. I was just hoping that would be the only time and that they might have fired those men who ripped me off. Instead, it looks like this is their new culture and they're digging their heels in. Get your tires done, sure, but anything else I would actively avoid them. They're right up there with Firestone on being some of the worst shops. Take their suggestions with a grain of salt and for the love of God get a second opinion before you let them take your money. I'm very fortunate I had someone in the industry I could call, but most places will do inspections for free or at minimal cost. It's worth it. Trust me!

Involvement in the Porsche Club of Americas (PCA) Drivers Education program introduced Autometrics, which had been primarily an import repair shop, to track cars and performance driving. In 1999, when track work took over the majority of the business, Autometrics Motorsports split off as its own entity. Our professional racing resume includes World Challenge, Grand Am Rolex, ALMS, Grand Am Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge, and IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge. Highlights include campaigning the final air-cooled 911 in the Daytona 24 in 2001; podium finishes in Rolex Series from 2002-2004; a race win and 3rd in the Team Championship in the 2005 Rolex Series; multiple podiums and wins in the 2006 CTSCC, narrowly losing the Championship and finishing 2nd with Marcus Motorsports; and multiple podiums and wins earning 2nd in the IMSA Challenge Platinum class in 2011. They have one plan in mind & that is to rip you off anyway they can. I went in on Wednesday to get a tire fixed that had a screw in it & get a oil change. Had to make a appointment to come back on Thursday at 8:00am. I was there at 7:45. The people were unbelievably rude. My truck sat in the parking lot for a hour & 15 minutes before they took it in. Finally 3.5 hours later it was done & cost $124.47. When I left the check engine light was on, there was no oil change sticker on the windshield so I'm not even certain they changed it. By the time I got home the slow leak I had in my tire was now a fast leak. I put air in it 3 times & got it back to the shop at 8:00am Friday only to be treated like shit again. It was another 1.5 hours before they took my truck in to re fix what they messed up. I also asked them about the sticker & the engine light which they never even responded to me. Finally after 2.5 hours I asked how much longer only to be talked down to & treated like I was a bother. So finally 3 hours later they tell me I owe them another $44.93 because they did not charge me correctly the day before. They refused to give me my keys until I paid them a second time. I asked for receipt & they did not want to give me one. Said they would email it but they said that yesterday as well. Well I got my receipt (see photos) and they are printed so you can't really see all the bogus charges but you can see enough that the $ amounts do not add up to the totals. I will be disputing this with my credit card & making a report with the BBB. Do yourself a favor and avoid these scam artists at all cost. Update I just went outside & my tire is flat again. It has not even been a hour. I have spent 3 days & more than 10 hours with these scam artists to fix a simple screw in a tire & it is still not fixed.
