Run away. While the store has its good aspects, and the…read morestaff are kind and helpful, the owner herself is not kind to her customers. Though she may appear kind at first glance and will be kind to your face, she is not a nice person at all, at least from my experiences which were terrible. Years ago I came in for some raw milk and honey and overheard the owner gossiping about me to another staff member who looked very uncomfortable with the situation. The owner was saying very unkind and hurtful things about me, things that were not true in the slightest, driving me to tears, and was unaware I had entered her shop. After I made my way to the cashier's desk, she pretended to be kind to me after having just been insulting and gossiping about me. Apart from the two faced owner, the prices were terribly high for the purchased items, and the items were sometimes subpar. Don't get me wrong though, the other staff members are friendly and helpful and very knowledgeable about their work, it's just the owner that makes me feel like I could go a whole lifetime without visiting this little town shop ever again. Don't get me wrong, I did try to like it and find some redeeming factor there, but between the high prices and the owner's attitude towards not only myself but others as well, and it is not without a heavy heart as I write this first negative review that I feel like it is best that I do not recommend this shop to anyone. Trust me, you'll find it best not to visit this troubling shop. I cannot stress this enough. For her sake and the sake of her business though, I truly hope the owner learns to be a better person.

My dog and I went to training classes when I first adopted him. That was about two years ago, and I…read morefelt like we both needed to brush up on our skills. I took Bruce to be evaluated by "Happy," PetSmart's newest pet training instructor, because I didn't know if I should enroll him in the Intermediate or Advanced class. I thought the evaluation would take maybe 5-10 minutes. Happy easily spent 45 minutes, maybe even an hour, working with Bruce, getting to know him, doing a physical evaluation, going over every inch of him, checking for any quirks he might have, and evaluating his current skill set. I was completely blown away by his attention to detail and ability to immediately connect with Bruce, and I (obviously) wanted to enroll in his class immediately. Instead of an Intermediate or Advanced class, he suggested Bruce and I enroll in a Therapy Dog class. After 6 weeks of training, I have a completely different dog. I feel far more connected to him, he is much calmer in social situations, he is more in-tune with, and responsive to, my commands... Happy is the greatest dog trainer I've ever met. So incredibly grateful for his help - we gained a true asset in our community when Happy started training at PetSmart here in Madison.

Today I brought my 18-year-old Pomeranian to the groomer, and what happened was unacceptable,…read moreunprofessional, and honestly heartbreaking. My dog is extremely small, fragile, and senior, so she requires gentle handling and extra caution. Instead, she was put in harm's way by her groomer, Ronnie F. Ronnie called me to say that my dog had "slipped out of the leash" and fallen to the floor, hitting her hip. She delivered this news without any apology, without urgency, and without the slightest concern for my dog's well-being. Her tone was cold and dismissive, as if she was inconvenienced by the accident not responsible for it. A groomer's FIRST responsibility is to ensure the animal is properly secured before picking up any tools. Especially with an elderly dog, safety should be the top priority. The fact that my dog fell at all shows clear negligence. But what disturbed me even more was the groomer's attitude afterward. When I arrived, Ronnie continued speaking to me with a nonchalant, irritated tone--like she was the victim in the situation instead of the person who caused it. She still never apologized. Instead, she raised her voice, said she "needed to go to the back," and walked away as if she could not be bothered with the very real possibility that she had injured a senior dog. I was polite to her the entire time, yet she acted as if she was being attacked, even though all I wanted was an explanation and reassurance that my dog was okay. My aunt asked how a secured dog could fall, and Ronnie's response was, "When they're this old, it could happen." That statement alone shows a complete lack of accountability. Age is not an excuse for negligence. What happened today makes me seriously question how many other animals have been treated this way. Mistakes may happen, but a lack of empathy, a lack of responsibility, and a complete failure to show basic professionalism is unacceptable especially in a job that involves vulnerable pets. My dog could have been seriously injured, and instead of compassion, we were met with attitude. That is not the kind of person who should be working with animals.

Bowling Green/Warren County Humane Society…read more another horrible experience with this shelter. we have been trying to find the perfect dog for our home that met our landlords requirements for YEARS now and we finally did today. we saw 2 adorable jack russell terrier mixes, and really wanted to adopt the male. his kennel wasn't marked as adopted and the woman let us walk him and decide if we were going to adopt him. in the past as a volunteer, when a dog is being walked I have been told that if the people walking it are considering adoption, they can't be claimed by someone else in that moment. well today the rules must have changed because in the time under 5 minutes we were seeing how the dog acted on a leash, we decided we really wanted to give him a home. we go inside and another taller blonde woman with a bun and a black puffer vest comes over and said there's people that look at the shelter from all over the country on petfinder and other partners that can claim the dog. he was now adopted. she had gone in the system and marked him as claimed in the time we were outside with him. we find out he hasn't yet been paid for and he's on hold until friday for them to pick up the dog. this absolutely crushed me to hear because we got our hopes up so high and felt an instant connection with him and his temperament was so good. I don't understand why that woman thought it was okay to do that when another employee (who did nothing wrong) had let us walk him and decide whether or not we wanted him just to turn around and promise him to someone else at the same time without warning us. this was sneaky and so unprofessional because now I'm an emotional wreck until I know Friday whether or not this can work out for us as a backup plan for the dogs adoption. I will never in my life return to this shelter or recommend it to anyone else if this fails. I am praying so hard that we can somehow still adopt him but this was a horrible experience to have to deal with.

When I called to set up the appointment I recounted our experience with the other groomer, and the employee I was speaking with was appalled at my story. I asked if their groomers were skilled in scissor-cutting double-coated dogs. She asked me to hold while she consulted the groomer. As it turns out, the groomer who took care of my dog has owned Pomeranians in the past and is well-versed in how to groom them properly WITH scissors. So I made the appointment and was told that it would probably be only 60 to 90 minutes. That was surprising for a bath, haircut, and nail trim...or maybe I'm just used to the other groomer and their 3 hour grooming windows. Riley's even calls to give you a 15 minute heads up that the grooming is almost complete. My girl looked good when I went to pick her up. She had a bath (presumably with unscented doggy shampoo since she didn't smell like an exotic dancer.) She even had a little bow in her hair. That was a nice touch. Maybe next time I'll ask them to paint her toenails. The most important thing is that she made my baby look like a Pomeranian again. It's gong to take a while longer to get her coat fully restored, although it may never grow back properly 100%, but the groomer was able to even things out so it doesn't have that weird look that we'd had before. At any rate, I'm pleased with the job Ms. Jackie did, and we'll be back.
