Homestead is a 44-acre park in Hilliard, and it's one of over 20 Columbus Metro Parks. In terms of some nice features of this parks are: a covered bridge over a pond in the middle of the park; an outdoor amphitheater; several pavilions you can rent for your parties & family gatherings; some picnic tables with barbeque grills (you provide your own charcoals, of course); a replica train station and a real caboose on a railroad tracks; ample parking lots throughout the park and a small but very nice playground. It has a 0.75-mile paved trail which connects to the 7-mile Heritage Trail, which runs along the park's western border. We like to park near the pond close to the playground when we come here. There are some picnic tables nearby you can sit at. The park entrance can be very easily missed if you're not paying too much attention since there's no large sign showing that this is a park... That's my only complaint.

This park is so much fun for everyone. Families, couples, hangouts etc. plenty of trails connected ( it's in between Heritage Rails and trails) There are a plethora of play areas. Basketball courts, cornhole set ups, workout areas, fishing etc. Great spot for photography as well. Usually see senior pics, family pics, and wedding shots taken there. Expect it to be packed on warm days.

Homestead is a small, but popular, park! It always seems to be hopping when we visit. There is a paved trail loop inside the park that's less than a mile, but it does connect to the 6+ mile Heritage Trail, if you're looking for a longer jaunt. What makes it particularly interesting is that it has a lot of interesting things to see and do, even in the small space. There's a really neat covered bridge, several very nice shelters, ranging from more basic to the fancier Lakeside Pavilion, two playgrounds, historic railroad pieces, including both buildings and train cars, and basketball and volleyball courts. There are also a lot of picnic tables, a fishing pond, and an amphitheater. There are multiple parking lots available throughout the park. The Barn Shelter has a small naturalist office, and they offer some fun programs and activities, like scavenger hunts for the kids. For the past couple of years, they've also put up lights during the month of December, which has been very enjoyable to stroll through too!

Oh curiosity unsatisfied, questions unanswered. Why is this 44-acre, almost right-triangular shaped metro park named Homestead? I tried looking on the intertubes but found no explanation. Oh well. Seems there may be an interesting storyline, historic background, and/or a piece of local lore we are missing out on. Or it might be a name created by random darts on a board--who knows. What is known is that Homestead is a colorful, fresh, and inviting green space full of activities for children and adults. The theme seems to be locomotives--trains, perhaps a call back to the abandon traction line that runs the hypothenuse of the triangle which now is the Heritage multi-use trail. A real train caboose is on the grounds; large, blue and metallic the Conrail car has stairs so one can walk on its platforms but the doors are lock. Not sure if they open them up at times for tours of the inner cabin. There is a children play area that looks new. It is fun looking with a tunnel underneath a platform the leads to jungle gyms and playground rides. On the grounds is an amphitheater, two fishing pond, shelters, clean indoor bathrooms, pavilions, sand volleyball courts, basketball courts, and a cover bridge. There is a multi-use causeway that lines the outer edge of Homestead; its dips and rises and runs makes a great speed ride after biking Heritage. The grounds have different grass and meadows, fields and trees. There is plenty parking. It is a nice metro in the Cosgray sprawl for activity and peacefulness.

I LOVE this park. Seriously. LOVE IT! This park is a great park to visit for family get togethers, showers, picnics, or even just to push your kid on the swing or slide. Its a cool place where there are various different places for the kids to play, rollerblade and play volleyball. The walking course around the area I believe is 3/4 of a mile, but it is very well maintained and easy to walk. I've come here to take pictures of the covered bridge, gazebo and other parts of the park. My husband and I brought our bridal party here in October for some pictures as well. Great place to visit and quiet too - great place to go for a get together of some kind!! (Not sure if dogs are allowed here - on or off leash.)

Such a beautiful & fun playground! Fun for hours!

Such a beautiful & fun park! Tons to do for busy little boys! Multiple play areas, trail & a nature center (not extensive but they have done fun things to look at like turtles & a snake). Bathrooms are also available.

So much fun for my two grandchildren! Plenty of options with multiple playgrounds. Lots of shade. Good safety features.

Is still a great park but the water gun park was removed in 2014 and there was a plan to replace it but that didn't happen.

Accessed from Scioto-Darby bordering its north, the park is tucked between neighborhoods, fields, and golf courses. Mark K. mentioned in his review circa 2015 that there was no easy bike connection between Homestead park and here. In the five years since that weakness has been rectified with an off-road bike path running down Lappert Rd. This is the way I cycled here. Just turn south from the Heritage Trail, left at the round-a-bout at Darby, and cross the street into the bike access. The park was eerily silent for the sunny summer Saturday I visited on my ride. Normally you'd expect the place to be jumping on such a gorgeous day, but the pandemic has damper things. Connected to that fact, the public pool here is closed for the year. Normally, the Family Aquatic Center, as it is called, would be full of swimmers using its leisure pool, sports pool, lazy river, slides, and children sections. Now it has a weird, abandon amusement park feel, with the rides sticking up like ruins over the wall, and ghostly echoes of screams, laughs, and splashes that should be here coming to mine in the quiet. What I call a 'sports park' the grounds hold fields for baseball/softball, lacrosse, soccer, and disk golf. Basketball courts and tennis are of course are found, as well as horseshoe ring. There is a small amphitheater and a large sledding hill half-mooning the grounds like a Native American mound. There are some art park landscaping here, especially near the fishing pond, a rustic body split by a wood bridge. There are several shelter houses here to rent. The running/riding trail isn't all that great, but it does breeze through the heart of the park. There are several connectors that leads to and from the surrounding neighborhoods. There is also a rustic food garden found here. On the east is a Veterans Memorial garden with colorful flowers, waving flags, and reflective stones ingrained with locals who gave the ultimate price. In all a good city park with lots of amenities, easy access, and just enough artwork to give it character.

It's almost a SIN to be indoors this time of the year, so as soon as the indoor stuff was over, I googled nearby parks and decided to check out Duranceaux. There is a nice looking educational facility available for groups on one end of the park and what appears to be an OSU boathouse on the other end. If you're from this area, maybe you're already away of this great, tucked away, "secret" spot, but I got the feeling even a few locals might not know it's there. Worth checking out... ENJOY!!

The long drive down has plenty of picnic tables, etc., but not many spots to park. The playground is small, but nice. Right near a shelter, with a lot nearby. Shade and benches handy for the grownups. There's a big building that looks like a lodge house, where a wedding was going on. Signs say there is an "education center"- may just be a nature trail? It's south of the playground somewhere. A great resource for the community, and worth a return for more than just the playground.
