Wetland area with boardwalk
Marissa C.

This park is really nice, given its location and amenities. There is a good amount of parking, with lots on either side of the park and a few in the middle. The Lane Road Library is conveniently located within walking distance at one end. The massive green space includes a little bit of everything: sports fields (tennis courts, baseball diamonds), playgrounds (one recommended for 5 and unders and another recommended for 5-12), and a glorious little wetland with a small boardwalk. It's so nice to have the preserved natural area here, which is great for some exploration every season. The playgrounds are spacious and have plenty of activities - not only the basics like swings and slides, but also a wide variety of climbing activities (including a rock wall with a hidden dinosaur fossil behind it!), spinning toys, a seesaw, and rocking animals. A paved trail goes around the park with various workout equipment available, which also connects to the surrounding neighborhoods in some sections. There are shelterhouses at the park, which are available for rental. Despite all of these amenities, there is still a lot of green space for playing tag, flying kites, and the like. Nice park!

I have liked to explore parks new to me and Thompson Park is one of these. It's one of the biggest in Upper Arlington. There is much to do here. It's a popular location for youth sports and in the summer there's usually something going on here. It's located near the Lane Road library where it shares a parking lot. There are several other places to park but this is the most convenient one. It has more than one entrance. It has one in the south. This is the one to use if you're looking for the playground. It has a small parking lot. The shelter house is here. It has a sledding hill. The facilities seem to be clean and maintained. It also has another entrance on the north. This is located off Lane Road where you go to the library. It shares the parking lot so you have to be careful of the patrons coming out. The park is right when you get past the parking lot. It's located near the baseball diamonds. This can get crowded if there are youth league sports happening. I think Thompson Park is a great park for athletics. It also has some playground things for kids and places to walk your pets. This is a good park to serve this part of the city and it's kept up real well.

Small wetlands section.

An athletic park tucked between McCoy and Lane Roads, Thompson provides facilities for almost every outdoor sport. Baseball, basketball, tennis, and the dreaded soccer are all represented. Great fields of grass are at the ready for flag football, frisbee, or snowball battle. There is a small hill for sleding. It also has a short multi-use trail for aerobics. Nearly 50-acres in total, the former Lane Road Park also provides other benefits. There is a plastic playground with slides, swings, ect; there are barbecue grills, picnic tables, and a shelter house for rent. At its southern end is a small patch of wetlands. It is named after a director who put mounds found through-out the park. The baseball diamonds seemed really well maintained. There are smaller fields for the young, and what looks to be regulation size at the other end. Several soccer fields makes this a place for matches on Saturday mornings. If you happen to come cheer on a soccer runt, here is the deal with parking. There seems too few spots at the ends, north and south. The northern is split between the park and library. But there are spots farther in on the south by the shelter house. Not sure, but they could be rare on sporting events. This park is not a looker except for a portion where the trail runs by homes on the east. Other than that it is a decent complex for games.

I am surprised that this park has not had a review yet! Thompson park is located in Upper Arlington off of McCoy road. This 49 acre park has sometime for everyone - you can walk your dog on the 1.15 mile loop, enjoy the fitness trail stations, playground, tennis courts, sport fields, shelter house, picnic areas with grills, and restrooms. And even a sledding hill (if we ever get measurable snow)! My dog enjoys the walk on the paved path and if we ever forget our doggy bags, Pet People stores have supplied bags! This park is really well maintained!

Birthday party @ North Thompson shelter house , hold to 90 people, electricity & restrooms but not kitchen.

Love this park , I rented recently the Thompson North shelter house for a birthday party , and was very pleased with it , so spacious for 90'people. the kids playground is right by it and they enjoy playing outside. Very convenient for family events. The only thing is that the restrooms were out toilet paper , so we put some our napkins & paper towels for the restrooms. Will definitely consider to rent it in the future again. The place has electricity and enough outlets to keep food warm but not kitchen.

Lol! My apologies!) A full size basketball court, a hard tennis court, a rollar hockey rink, and full playground with some of the most impressive children complex are here. This isn't about the park itself, it's about Tremont Pool, the public pool located by the park…read more I went with my friends almost everyday during the summer, everything was great, the prices were a bit extreme and it racked up quickly. However it soon proved to me that it's not even worth the money. The last time I went, I took my 6 year old little brother. Along with my older brother, his girlfriend and her daughter who was 2. A whole mess of things happened, and I was left with the children, which I was okay with, however problems happened with the 2 year old, and I had to get out, leaving my little brother in close eyes view, in the kiddie pool. I turn my back for 2 seconds and he's vanished. From what he said after, he was trying to swim out to our older brother, and started drowning. I saw this and immediately jumped in the 4ft of water, to save my little brother, mind you he was directly in front of 2 lifeguards, who weren't paying any attention what so ever. I did make a comment, a rude one, because this is their job. Yes leaving him unattended wasn't the responsible thing to do, but that is exactly what the lifeguards are there for. I took him out of the water, and got him relaxed, then walked over to tell my brother and his girlfriend what happened, also asking them to go grab the toy that some other family had stole from us, and in the corner of my eye I see the same lifeguards in the corner, laughing at me. This didn't bother me any, but it's the blatant disrespect this pool has shown, especially to a 6 year old. I reported this behavior, and the situation to the manager, who was also extremely careless. He was at least professional, and said he would talk to the lifeguards, but that truly isn't good enough. Being a lifeguard isn't just about spending all summer at the pool, you are there to try and save lives. We need to stop hiring disrespectful, incompetent teenagers.

I would have never known this was here if a friend didn't live nearby and tell me all about it. On my visit I accessed the park by traveling down some steep stairs and crossing a little bridge that gets you across the small creek that runs through. I quickly discovered a handful of miniature trails that sprawl out from the center of the park and into the little crevasses of the neighborhood bordering the area. I noticed a good number of other park goers, several super happy pups, and unfortunately a ton of trash. This is obviously what caused me to dock a star from my rating, such a bummer. Clean up after yourself people, there was seriously trash everywhere. My favorite part about this park is the tunnel with the giant birds painted across it. The acoustics once you're inside are major and during my visit there was a young man playing a flute. The sound carried so beautifully, it made my day. My second favorite part was spotting an owl high up in a tree. Owls are definitely my spirit animal, so cool! I'll definitely be back to this park. Fingers crossed it's cleaned up a bit.

There are a few different ways to enter the park - pay attention to signage indicating private property areas and to when some entrances are closed (i.e. during the winter, the steps may be closed if ice is a concern). There's a main path running through the park, next to which are various signs explaining the history and nature of the area, which runs into the tunnel with the beautiful bird paintings, which is, unfortunately, showing its age these days. Other paths branch off, allowing you to explore the nearby woods, and you can also go down what used to be an old street and enjoy that too. It's a nice place to explore near the city!

There is a nice looking educational facility available for groups on one end of the park and what appears to be an OSU boathouse on the other end. If you're from this area, maybe you're already away of this great, tucked away, "secret" spot, but I got the feeling even a few locals might not know it's there. Worth checking out... ENJOY!!

The long drive down has plenty of picnic tables, etc., but not many spots to park. The playground is small, but nice. Right near a shelter, with a lot nearby. Shade and benches handy for the grownups. There's a big building that looks like a lodge house, where a wedding was going on. Signs say there is an "education center"- may just be a nature trail? It's south of the playground somewhere. A great resource for the community, and worth a return for more than just the playground.
