I'm assuming Fryer park includes the Century village?? We stop here frequently to play at the park but this time we went to the village to check it out for the first time. It was really neat to see and the kids had fun exploring. Its nice to see older buildings being taken care of. The kids loved finding out the history of them and reading the sign on the Orders family home. It would also be a great spot for pictures!

One of the best parks for older children and toddlers. Fryer park is located in the same area as YMCA, in the summer it's a great place to take tiny toddlers to get wet at their new and great splash pad which my children seriously enjoyed way too much! The park area is geared a little more towards school age kids as a lot of the equipment is more for climbing and handeling of older children, the play area reminds me of a play area you would see at cosi. Overall this park is one of the best and I highly recommend it for families of all ages!.

When you pull into the main parking…read morelot, you find yourself in a busy area featuring a large red barn, a playground, and an open air shelter. If you head to the left, you can cross a little bridge over a creek that takes you into a very nice natural play area, which includes a slide, a ring of boulders to climb and jump from, the aforementioned creek that you can enjoy some creeking in, and a little wooded area with a mini dirt trail. The playground and open air shelter were packed when we visited, but the natural play area was completely empty. We enjoyed the opportunity to fully explore and try out each of the activities. If you continue along the paved trail up the hill, you can take it to the left to visit a small prairie and head up a connector to a greenway trail, or you can take a right and loop through Gantz Park. As you loop around, you'll find a lovely gazebo surrounded by beautiful flowers, and then another bridge that takes you into the gardens area (which is located to the right of the parking lot when you are facing the playground and red barn, so you could also just go straight there if that's your interest). The gardens are very fun, such as a rain garden, a community-type garden, native plants, herb garden, knot garden, and the like. In addition to the beautiful plants, there is a lot of wonderful art and sculptures throughout, and a very nice labyrinth to walk and get some nice meditation in. It was very relaxing despite its proximity to the noisy parking lot and playground. Well worth a visit whether you're getting out with the kids or looking to enjoy the gardens!

This place holds some good memories for me as my grandma used to bring me there when I was a kid. We'd find a table and have ourselves a picnic lunch of Kentucky Fried Chicken. It was and still is a nice place for a picnic, a walk or to simply relax. It's still the same 46 acres of greenery, tall trees, paved walking pathways, along with a cement pond, shelter house and more. It's clean and attractive and it's held up well in it's 90 years. They even picked up that old chicken drumstick I dropped on the ground years ago. I know it's on the west side of Columbus but don't think that I've lost my marbles when I tell you to go there and check this place out. Don't be afraid of the area. The west side is a little shabby these days but it's not unsafe. The Westgate neighborhood though is nice, very nice actually and it shares that same middle class bourgeois lifestyle that Grandview and Clintonville have and this park reflects that. So feel free to take your KFC, bento boxes or maybe some organic chicken wraps and have yourself a picnic there. Like everyone else, I like this place so I'll give Westgate Park 4 stars.

There are several parking lots available throughout the park, such as near the athletic complex and another by the playground, which is also the location of a trailhead. We were interested in going for a hike, so we were looking for the trails. It would be helpful if a map and/or signage was available - we had to go off of pictures and maps posted on non-official sites and still had some fun adventures trying to figure it out. The trails never went far enough away from a road or buildings to be concerned that we'd actually get lost, so we were comfortable exploring. There is one wide, short trail that is what is now a fenced maintenance area. The trail goes through a grassy area and lets you get down near the stream and look around. It was nice until it dumped us out on the other side of the maintenance area with no clear direction on how to get around it and back to the beginning of the loop, despite being able to see it. We were, however, able to see another trail going through the woods from there, so once we managed to get back we decided to check out part of the wooded trail, which seemed quite a bit longer than the grassy trail. It had a lot of neat features like cute bridges, large stones functioning as steps, and the like. It was a very nice area. We eventually hopped off at the trailhead that we discovered is located by the playground. I'd love to go back and explore more of the woods - it looks like (from a trails website) there's actually 2.7 miles back there.
