I usually never get excited over a home refi, but after my most recent experience with HomePlus Mortgage my feelings have changed. With the record low interest rates, I decided to begin looking at the prospect of lowering our current mortgage rate (currently at 4 percent). I began my search with our current lender (Wells Fargo), but without getting into details I decided to go another direction (side bar, literally when purchasing our current home three years ago Wells dragged their feet during the funding process and we almost lost the sale). I spoke to three lenders (and brokers) and was sold on HomePlus. We worked with Bryan, who from the very beginning was responsive and very helpful. He explained the process and outlined every detail. Complete bait and switch.... Went through LendingTree and they were one of the top 3. After a few weeks, countless hours of gather papers I got the "oh, I made an error and didn't realize this was your rental propert". That was disclosed up front- several times. What an amazing contrast when comparing our refinance experience with David G. Gramse of Compass Home Lending and Mona Lyons of Home Plus Mortgage. We have exactly the same borrower profile in our simple/straight-forward loan application such as income, assets, excellent FICO credit score, retired couple, and the pandemic still in effect . . . provided needed documents from the outset and yet our loan process with David is like driving on a bumpy road versus a very smooth ride with Mona. Our loan application with David of Compass Home Lending started on May 22, 2020, and as of Aug. 27, 2020, when I canceled, the loan is still pending with no closure in sight, 95 + days from the initial loan application. Meanwhile, our experience with Home Plus is truly a reflection of the hundreds of 'high/5-star reviews' on Yelp/Google/Lending Tree/Bankrate.com /rated 'A' by BBB.
