I go to a lot of these types of places and they are all the same, so far, from what I have seen…read more I'm usually at these various living facilities anywhere from 3:00 to 5 hours and will I like how small this one is with two small houses for probably no more than a dozen residents if that in each house, there are zero engagement. I've been there from morning to afternoon and afternoon to evening and there's no engagement with the staff and the residents Beyond giving them food and very very occasionally bouncing a ball with them. There's no activities, art projects, exercise, just nothing at all. They have a TV on and that is literally it the entire day. The TV usually is at a volume that no one can even hear which is bizarre, since I have perfect hearing and all of the residents probably have to use hearing aids or can't hear it all. What they usually have on would be suitable for grade school children. It's just really strange. Living facilities are immensely expensive and no insurance covers it, so if I was ever going to put a family member in a place like this, they better be engaging the residents, interacting with them at least on an hourly basis, and doing more than just meal prep and getting them to and from the bathroom or their bedrooms. The staff are nice, though the majority are far too young. They seem to hire 18 to maybe 22-year-olds on average which is just strange. I guess cuz they can get away with paying them less? Not really sure.

In my opinion it takes a special kind of person to be a caregiver and we were blessed to get to know many of them in that time. I can't thank them enough for the compassionate care they gave to her, my sister and myself in her final days, their deep concern went way beyond expectations.

Very few staff who actually care fully about the residents and how they are treated. Others are just a perfect example of being abusive with their power. Management simply does not care to keep their good staff to keep things running smoothly, only care about making sure they have power there, makes if very unfortunate. She is the person you would want looking after your loved one. If only she were the one looking after your family member. Like most care centers, they are understaffed. Residents wander around the facility. They enter other's rooms and go through their things. They get into arguements and sometimes get physical. There are not enough people there to appropriately manage the 'residents'. Many visits of mine included redirecting other residents out of my loved ones' room. Pressing the call button doesn't get you anyone to the room. DESPERATELY understaffed. My father was on hospice from Day 1 at this facility. That meant that Roseleaf provided very little care and relied upon Butte Home Health to take care of all the dirty work. Butte Home Health is not set up to be on site for all needs. My father most often was crusty eyed, never left his bed and didn't eat his meals. He had a colostomy bag and he would tear it off making a big mess. The business end of the business is not efficient. They are quite quick to require you to pay them for services - as a business should - but when they owe funds back to you after your loved ones' death - get ready to wait for many, many weeks. Excuses about people being away from their desk, let me look into this, our accounting department is in another state . . . and no one calls you back. Be sure to ask for paper documentation and receipts for all monies paid. You will need this to try and twist their arms to get your money back. It has now been over 6 months post death and I've yet to receive my refund for overpayment for care. They don't return calls. They don't respond to email. BEWARE!

DO NOT PERFORM AT WIND CHIME IF YOU ARE A MUSICIAN…read more I am a pianist here in Chico and play at multiple retirement homes monthly and they are all excellent, except for Wind Chime. They told me today after my second performance with them that they "never received my invoice" from my performance on November 3rd, 2024 even though I have email proof that I sent it and that it was received. Now my payment will be delayed another month making it two months total if not longer that I will receive payment after performing on November 3rd, 2024. A fellow pianist I know in Chico has still not received multiple payments from Wind Chime dating back months and other musicians have dealt with this as well. Do not bring your business to Wind Chime as a musician or performer. They do not respect you or your time and they do not pay you when they say they will. Go to any other retirement home in Chico but them.

This place is absolutely abhorrent. My father-in-law suffered his last three weeks of life here. The staff was at best, indifferent. They were unqualified, and he couldn't even receive proper medication because the company is worried the staff will steal the drugs. So its their policy to keep no liquid pain medicine. This is all a trickle down effect that begins with a terrible system that is in place in California. No one is required to work and those that do are not required to be competent. Horrible employees are impossible to fire. If you disagree with this post, great. Hopefully you won't live long enough to find yourself in a place like this.

Many, however, transferred to Butte Home Health so the transition has been good. The RN is the most important and crucial, right? We met Pamela for her first visit and it only took minutes to be comfortable again. She is the personification of excellence, and I feel my wife has a concierge doctor/nurse when she is here and an advocate for her health. Today, Butte authorized a portable oxygen machine so that we have some additional options to go out and about. From medication organization and ordering to specific needs, we have appreciated each person, from Shannon, the social worker, to Theresa in PT, Chaplain Hugh, we feel so lucky. If this review can help others, then it is worth the time to have done it. All companies will have similar manuals, but it will always be the people and the human touch that determines their effectiveness. Butte Home Health deserves a huge thank you.

Then, the wonderful people at Butte Home Health and Hospice showed up at my door, bringing with them the care and advice I needed to find my way forward. Now, after five weeks of in-home visits from their talented, professional staff, my life is wholly better, and I no longer fear I'll have to leave my home. Everything about this terrific non-profit is dedicated to their client's needs and well-being. Visits are organized to provide a seamless bridge from immobility to independence, through skilled application of exercise practice and advice. Everyone who came to help - home health nurse, physical therapist, and medical social worker - were kind, warm-natured, and gently encouraging. I am particularly grateful to Erik Karchev, whose knowledge and talent as a physical therapist enabled me to experience a renewed mobility that I despaired I'd never feel again, and my pain level has decreased noticeably. A lot of good can come from working with skilled and dedicated professionals, and working with Butte Home Health and Hospice has truly improved my life. I now have hope that I can continue to live independently in my home, and, at 73 years old, discovering a new hopefulness is amazing!
