We didn't want to replace them with generic windows from a manufacturer so he took out the rotten sashes and repaired them at his workshop, replacing the rotten wood with clean new wood. He even repainted them in a color so close to the original, it's pretty much indistinguishable to my very picky eye. His work was careful and innovative -- it was a really difficult repair -- and he left the place completely tidy. Dann also rebuilt our back outdoor stairs and did a tidy, solid job of it. He wrote a time and materials contract, but we told…read morehim we had a pretty tight budget for our tub remodel and he said he thought we could do the work within the dollar amount we gave him. He was very slow and ran us way over budget (he essentially billed us 89.00 per hour to put in tile, and he seriously billed us for 48 hours of tile work to put in 45 pieces of 12x24 tile). When we would ask for estimates to finish, he gave an estimate, and then took twice as long as his estimate. When we confronted him, he literally said, it's time and materials, it is what it is. We finally had him stop work when he was close to 50% over our original estimate (and he STILL wasn't finished). The final quality of work was so bad, we had to hire a new contractor and have all the tile torn out and start over. Be careful!
