WOW!!! What an amazing experience at Home Run Cafe!! The food was incredible, service was inspectable, not to mention the owner was very friendly, made sure our food was good and genuinely cared about our experience at his restaurant. We took 4 bagels home-they were very fresh and tasty even 2 days later they were not hard as bricks-as most bagels are. AND....to top off our great experience was the cannoli's-they were fresh and delicious to say the least!!! We have been coming here for years since we moved to Lake Placid, and we absolutely love this little place! Their home made bagels are to die for, and we have never had a bad meal here, also they have the best prices of any restaurant around. Make sure to check the specials board straight ahead when you walk in, they never disappoint! Today they had a chicken salad fruit plate and it was the best chicken salad I've ever had, not to mention the fruit was fresh and crisp, and enough to feed me twice! Highly recommend. read more

In my never-ending quest to visit awesome privately-owned breakfast spots, I drove on down to teeny, tiny Lake Placid. They are known as "The Town of Murals" and are world famous for them and perusing them makes a very nice day trip! Tens of thousands of folks do it every year. All those folks need to eat and bunches of them go here and rave about it! Hence my trip. Arriving- Your GPS won't work very hard as this place is easy peasy to find. BTW, they are usually open every day starting at 6:00 AM. Breakfast and lunch only. Street parking, the slanted drive-in style is the name of the game here. It's free. Pro-Tip- This is Snowbird country and many restaurants close for a week or two during the summer. My advice, call first before you visit. Ambience- Tiny one-room place with Florida kitsch and a mild baseball theme which extends to the menu. Typical booths and tables. They also have a counter that seats six with an open kitchen. I found everything spotless! Customer Service- I was tag teamed by two servers and they were both great so no complaints. Food- Standard American menu with the glaring omission of a list of omelets. What the hell! In keeping with the baseball theme, you can order a single, double, or triple meaning the number of eggs and pieces of meat. I ordered the Double with sausage and home fries, and it set me back $9 pre-tip. My coffee was great. My eggs and sausage were spot on, but read on to hear about the home fries. Over-the-top, spectacular home fries, easily on my Top 5 list of all time! The cook/chef uses his own custom seasoning and it's amazing. After reading the previous reviews my wife and I had breakfast at Home Run Cafe today and definitely 5 stars. In my case I had a BLT w fries, just to try the fries and they were awesome. My wife had two eggs w sausage and home fries. Eggs were perfectly cooked, sausage was excellent and home fries delicious. The cafe is open 7 days a week, from 6AM till 2PM, so not sure why one reviewer stated it is nearly always closed. As for the service it was great as was the coffee. read more

Add this to list of Lake Placid breakfast places! Food is tasty, home fries are crispy on the outside and well seasoned. We had The Home Run, the RBI, peanut butter cannoli, and the everything bagel. My quick review is this: the quality and portion size of the food (especially the American fries) has always been, service has been excellent and overall it just a very hospitable and friendly place. What a wonderful surprise in downtown Lake Placid for lunch today. The town is very busy with a lot going on but we were able to walk in and be seated right away. The place is loosely done with a baseball motif and is clean and very efficient. Orders were taken promptly and prepared and delivered in a timely manner. Food was hot and very good. French fries were a little oily and could have been cooked longer but other than that, food was great. They also gave us a sample of their rolled ice cream which was also delicious. Went this morning. First time, never again. Not many people started off great. Then our server came over we ordered. She brings our toast out about 10 min before our food when I asked for hot toast when my food comes out she threw out attitude. No clue why, I was not rude about it she kept arguing with me that it just came out it was hot. Well it wasn't and even if it was it would be really cold by the time my food arrives. I asked for med bacon came well done. Don't order a side of bacon, you get 2 pieces. When she brought our food asked if we needed anything else I said only my bacon please again attitude saying in a min. After she brought it out didn't see her again until the check then asked if we wanted anything else. I was going to complain until she asked someone to get her dad and I figured why bother. Like going here because it's close to home and the food is good. About the service, well if there was somewhere else close or open to eat at I would. The servers are just horrible with no personality and no desire to be there. They just put things on the table very rudely, there's no thank you or you're welcome. Saw a customer give a tip to the girl at the register and she just turned around and didn't even thank him. He looked at my husband nodding his head. If management doesn't get new servers the business is going to go down hill. Hope it changes. The ambiance is nice and clean and the decore suits the place. Would give it a five star if it weren't for the horrible service. My husband also heard other customers say things about the service. read more

This place is great. It's been recently (last year) renovated and reopened under new management and staff with a new menu. The Ruben sandwich was simply wonderful today (thanks for the suggestion). The staff are busy but always friendly. The cooks are super busy but, along with the servers, are genuinely interested in your opinion. The deserts are, I believe, all made in-house.
