They are just wonderful. I have literally been buying 10 bags of their grassfed beef bone broth a week and will continue to do so. I bought a few different brands of beef bone broths I can find, and compared each one, both their taste and nutritional content. They're all quite good but this is definitely the winner! My close family member has been in the hospital and lost over 30 pounds. To help provide higher quality nutrition than hospital food, I have been making beef soups and chicken soups for him daily and using HOTR's grassfed beef bone broth as the base. I use a Vitamix to blend beef, liver, and bone marrow into a drinkable beef soup--this broth is what's making this super delicious (otherwise, it's hard to make liver taste yummy) and enabling him to consume high quality nutrition. It's very healing. My criteria is a beef bone broth that comes from grassfed, preferably non-medicated cows; with the highest nutritional content (esp protein and healthy fat such as omega); no extra additives, especially no preservatives etc; vegetables used for it need to be organice; flavorful. (I legit created an excel sheet comparing the different brands of bone broths I bought...I know I'm a nerd). And their beef bone broth definitely wins at all of these criteria. I was specifically looking for a grassfed beef bone broth with more healthy fat, because healthy, cleanly-sourced fat is one of the most important building blocks in the body (the human brain is nearly 60% fat, your brain and body need good fat to perform well). It's so important in repairing cells, body, brain,...everything. Their beef bone broth has higher fat content (but don't worry, not enough to make you fat), and the fat comes from the cleanest sources--grassfed, non-medicated beef. It's the healthiest fat for your body/brain. Since I'm sure a lot of people use it as a base for soups like me, they do not add salt to their bone broth so we can customize our own seasoning (such as for people with high blood pressure). I really appreciate that because we'd like to control our own sodium level. I saw a reviewer saying it's "tasteless," all you need is add some salt. Trust me, it's very flavorful. If you or your family need some healing, you can't go wrong with their grassfed beef bone broths. I'm sure their other broths are just as healing. I have been buying 10 bags of their beef bone broths a week (Spud said I single-handedly caused their shortage in this bone broth lol). So I started ordering directly from HOTR. I talked to Tamara the manager and Louis/Lewis (not sure which spelling he uses), both of whom are just wonderful and kind and ensured me they'll reserve enough quantity for me every week (I was really worried about running out). I can tell they truly care about their customers and the quality of their broths. When I called to talk to Tamara about our needs, she suggested a few other broths that would be also great for healing and actually gave me a free bag of Dashi broth (it's a Japanese style pork bone broth, like what ramen soups use) for me to try! I would've been more than happy to pay for it but she said she insisted. And it's quite delicious! You can tell she is passionate about their broths and really cares about their customers. You can't find a better local Vancouver company to support! read more

Home on the Range Organics - a block of cheese and a block of butter - Organic Stores Near Me - Vancouver, British Columbia

I used to buy a ton of their bone broth. It doesn't tase the same, the packages are now smaller and the price went up. They never seem to have a selection of anything, including the meats I'd occasionally buy. Not sure if they will survive? read more

Wow! So many things I want to try! You will find all kinds of bone broth, cheese, nut milk and salami in fridge. And some fermented food too. Those broth might be super useful for stew and soup in cold winter and also as cold remedy too. read more

Home on the Range Organics - Mix with water and drink up! - Organic Stores Near Me - Vancouver, British Columbia

I've walked by here many many times and so, when there was a deal for basically a mixed basket for a decent price I thought it was a great opportunity to try it out. At first I was going to do delivery but despite being 2.5 Kms away the charge seemed exorbitant so I chose pick up. As instructed I dutifully advised a time frame the next day for pickup. I arrived there and one person working dealing with other customers - no big deal. When I ordered I was told I would receive confirmation when ready for pickup but never received anything as far as I know. When it was my turn the somewhat flabbergasted employee told me he needed to put the order together and rushed around to various fridges and freezers. Some items were frozen, some were refrigerated with no seeming rhyme or reason. Some items had no labeling of any kind on them. There were choices to make (what kind of sausages, what kind of broth etc.) which was fine and made sense. Then there were the substitutions - out of this, out of that and the subs were questionable in terms of apples to apples and value. All in all, I had a full bag of interesting products and promptly put in cooler bag with ice and straight home. Now for the individual products and to be fair, I've not tried them all yet... Ribeye steak - the star/standout so far! Well marbled, well cut and trimmed and delicious flavour. Blade steak - wasn't packaged properly and after only a few short days covered in freezer burn - also no labeling whatsoever but my amateur butcher and description of package suggests it was blade steak. Could not recover and unfortunately had to toss. Bone broth - decent, not as good as my own but that's personal preference. I do t know how you make broth without bones and it seems to be a bit of a fad these days. Have yet to try sausages but they look good. Local sausages from more local butchers as well as Oyama and Stapleton are quite good so we will see if they measure up. Brisket - treated with kid gloves, carefully smoked and rested - meh. Tossed most of it honestly (and sadly). Dip - beet dip substitute was ok, would have liked to try the cauliflower. Deli ham - the sub from turkey. Decent but seemed like near end of life and would have preferred the turkey. Also $ wise was quite a bit less than advertised. Burgers - this was a frozen four pack and looked right in terms of blend etc. trying to cook from frozen was impossible. There was absolutely no way to separate them and butcher paper stuck. These look like they've been around a long time but will try anyways once they thaw a bit in the fridge and I'm able to separate. I had already prepped sides and toppings so this was annoying to not be able to cook them. Decent value but not when I can't use a bunch of product and don't like other product. I probably won't seek it out again as have many local butchers that are closer to home with equivalent or better product. If for someone reason I do stop by again, I will focus on the fresh steaks and look carefully. There is a lot of opportunity for execution improvement here! I do love NZ butter although I generally use local grass fed butter. The storefront is cluttered at best and for me it was a bit disconcerting to have random products askew. read more

I'm sure the stuff here is fine but it wasn't what I was looking for. Everything is frozen & packaged. No fresh meat at all. I was looking for a fresh farm butcher. The vintage market next door is cool though, if like me, you read the reviews and thought it was a butcher. read more

Home on the Range Organics is not just a store, it's an experience! Just when I thought the all the passion in grocery shopping was lost I stumbled across this gem in Mount Pleasant. Chef Allen is extremely helpful and passionate about the products he sells, and for a good reason! He explained that the majority of the products are sourced from BC - a 100 mile radius. They carry all sorts of high quality meats such as organic bacon, "milk-fed" ham, chicken, beef and lamb. Noteworthy are the DELICIOUS gourmet sausages which are made to Chef Allen's own special recipes using high quality meat and no cheap fillers. I've tried most of the flavours and they are all distinctly flavorsome and meaty, very different to the cheap ones you get in the supermarket! On the subject of dairy, the cheeses I bought were delicious, and the creamy taste of the ancestral butter is phenomenal. read more

Absolutely amazing! The owners are lovely. It's nice when places surpass customer service by being genuine and developing honest friendly relationships. Very nice people! The staff is quite a hoot as well. They are all always smiling, laughing and having great chats, very passionate good hearted folks! In general I often hear people complain about organic food prices but you get what you pay for and your body deserves the best nutrients! They have lots of organic nutrient dense quality food. Love the broth, duck liver pâté, and bison meet. Yum! read more

I stumbled by this place by accident while trying to find the existing store that used to be there. I was sad that the previous business had closed, however, glad that I found this one in replacement of. They specialize in organics, just like the name implies. Their primary focus is local within a certain radius. Most of the things in the store are what we see at Farmer's market without having to wait for the farmer's market. Prices are very reasonable and the lady who owns the store was very helpful. read more

Their bone broth will cure almost anything that ails you, even a bad mood. Reasonable pricing for what you're getting. Awesome selection of organic meat and dairy, and great knowledgeable service. Chef Allan knows his stuff. Tip: if you're defrosting a frozen bag of broth, sit it upright in a Tupperware container in the fridge, don't just put the package inside a plastic bag to defrost. Because they fill the packages totally full, there's a chance the seam of the packaging will tear a bit and broth will leak out. Would much rather it leak into a Tupperware container than a shopping bag! read more

I saw this new meat /dairy shop that opened up in Mount Pleasant, and was very excited to try it as supporting local businesses is always a good idea. We have gotten a few types of sausages, as well as some cheese curds, and an extra old gouda. I am excited to continue trying different sausages, and perhaps one of the whole chickens they sell while getting to stay in my own neighbourhood. Stop by and talk to the owners as they're often there, and are happy to suggest some products depending on what you usually like. read more

We ordered a prime rib roast from here and were so happy with it. It was organically sourced and absolutely gorgeous. The staff member who assisted me on the phone to order it and who was there when we went to pick it up, was amazing. She offered us a sample of beef broth and gave us a heap of information and personal testimony on its health benefits which was great. We picked up some amazing sausages as well. Great experience, we will be going back often. Thankyou. read more

Cheese, cured meats, soups, meat, SAUSAGES! and many other delectable items fill this quaint shop. Everything that I have ever taken home from this wonderful shop has been delicious. However, I must shed some light on the sausages. These sausages are incredible, one could say even life changing, they are the best in town and when you've tried one you can never go back. My boyfriend and I are simply addicted to them and are saddened when we no longer have any more in the freezer. Luckily! that means we get to go back to the shop, have a nice conversation with the owner (who is incredibly passionate about what he does) and fill our sausage card with more stamps! read more

Congratulations you guys I know from personal experience that Alan is an amazing chef

This place offers a lot of selections from meat, to cheese to broth and so much more. I've tried their sausages and bone broths. The broths are quite expensive in my opinion but they do taste good. The sausages are delicious! Good amount of spice and seasoning. I'd come back to try some of their other products in the future. read more

I was very disappointed in the beef bone broth. I decided to try it as it said it was #1 in BC. Until then I was buying liquidsandsolids.ca's beef bone broth (which is SUPERB). I did not enjoy the beef bone broth at all. It was literally tasteless. Very disappointing. read more

They really know their stuff. Looking for a clean product with the best ingredients, then look no further. Sausages are amazing and the bone broth better than anywhere else. Will happily give you all the necessary info as well. Have a snack while visiting and definitely stock up for home. read more

As a vegetarian, married to a celiac, I was unsure of what to think of these sausages when I first bought them for my husband. I loved that their ingredients were pure but how would they taste? After his first bite my husband was sold, he LOVED them and they didn't cause any kind of reaction after eating them. I thought I would see what the rave was about and tried a bite, even as someone who almost never eats meat I thought they were DELICIOUS. Absolutely worth stocking up on (I just bought 12 packs yesterday because they freeze so well!), and so easy to cook up one night after work. Healthy, pure, tasty. It is a win win all around. Anybody who has been buying their meat from anywhere else, definitely recommend you give this place a try. read more

I posted a review in the past, but it bears repeating, the Macedonian Feta is AMAZING! I use it in so many dishes but my favourite use is in crepes. My son and I have taken to eating crepes with Macedonian feta and a few drops of homemade jam every other weekend. We often pair them with some of Chef Allen's sausage....Moroccan lamb is our favourite, but there is something for everyone. Heading back to pick up more feta! read more

Fantastic sausages. As good as it gets. They rival if not even surpass Oyama's sausages. Happy to see a small local business producing such delicious food. read more

I had to come on here and write a review because I love this place like crazy. The owners are usually there helping the customers themselves. I recently went there on a Sunday to see a sign on the door saying they were closed for the day, but left a phone number to call them if you came from far away and they'll come open the store and help you. Who does that these days? So great. She has easy and fantastic meal suggestions depending on what you're feeling like, and tells you how to make the most of what you buy (ie. make a chicken stock the next day) and chef Allen is there to greet you and help you personally as well, checking all your eggs before you buy them and telling you about his products, which he is very proud of. I am a huge fan of their bone broth!! It has helped me get over a few ailments. You can get a cup to go and they'll dress it up for you with an egg yolk or whatever you like. They have great international cheeses, amazing salami's (truffle anyone?) good cooking oils, pastas, butter, dairy, and some tasty ready made meals. It's so nice to have an organic place right around the corner, where I know the people that run it really care about everything from animal treatment to the quality of their products. Come check out and support this place! read more

I'm rating this place purely on their bone broths. I first visited a few months ago when I read about the health benefits of drinking bone broth in the morning. The woman in the store provided lots of information and advice and let me try a sample. I bought turkey, chicken, and lamb and drank them over the course of the next week. Of the three flavours, turkey was definitely my favourite, followed by the chicken. The lamb was strange and gamey tasting and I could taste it for hours after finishing. I ended up not finishing the bag. Each bag lasted about 2.5 days having half a mug (maybe about 6-8oz. once a day). I came in a few more times but each time they were out of the turkey, so after Christmas I made my own and was surprised to find that it had a much stronger and deeper flavour. Comparatively, the flavour of these bone broths is much weaker. I will still stop by if I don't get a chance to make my own for the week, and I am so glad that Vancouver has a bone broth bar, but I do think the strength and depth of flavour could be improved. read more
