We used to go to Chinatown for grocery shopping in the old days before Richmond became the 'New' Chinatown, now even Burnaby, Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Surrey etc all have their own Chinese Supermarkets or independent grocery stores. Yes, you may say, most of the T&Ts will sell HK Style BBQ, but I still prefer the independent ones where you actually deal with the BBQ Chef at the counter and ask him for the best cuts! Yesterday morning, still recovering from my jet lag, I decided to drive out early in the morning and on my way back I passed by Landmark Fresh Meats & BBQ, saw that they have freshly roasted whole pig, I decided to get some as snacks!! The BBQ Chef recommended the smaller pig as the meat is more tender and moist, going with his recommendations I ordered (one rib bone, this is usually how you gauge how much you want when ordering from a whole pig) of course you can order by weight too. As you can see from the photo the skin is roasted to perfection, crispy and not oily! I was going to keep some for later but it was so good that I finished the whole lot!

While their BBQ was "fine", but I've had better pork belly (the one with the crispy skin). But I would avoid their prepared chilled food like their chicken feet and any other chilled foods beside it. My mother and I recently went over there and had those, then about a day or two later, we both got severely sicker over time. I got sick first, then her. We ended up having to call the family doctor over it in case if we needed to go to the ER or whatever. Luckily it sounded like it was food poisoning (which it was). Not sure if it's because of the weather the food had spoiled faster or if they cross contaminated it with the raw meat and didn't clean things properly during food prep or just simply didn't wash their hands thoroughly. Also it's best to watch out for their pork feet. While the flavor is "fine", but feel like there isn't enough flavor to it, all you taste is mostly the saltiness (which is in the right direction, but meh). The issue is that I wouldn't put it past them that this didn't help matters). Simply put - I would avoid this place whenever possible and don't risk it.

Some very good deals here in an age where groceries can cost you a pretty penny these days. Really looking forward to trying the Truffle Hummus! Seems like they made some changes in the layout of this place. There was some kind of a deli counter this time. It had a huge selection of olives to choose from in the display as well as a few other things like pickled turnip, pickled hot pepper and sundried tomatoes. I also saw some eggplant dip, yogurt dips and cold salads like Potato salad and Macaroni salad. To the left of this deli counter I saw another display case that had desserts in it. It seemed to be different varieties of baklava as well as various flavors of Tres leches. In one of their fridges I saw quite a few containers of clotted cream. I was quite excited to see this as a friend of mine had been looking all over for clotted cream recently, but was unable to find it. This location of Persia Foods would be too far for her, but I messaged her right away to tell her about it, and then suggested that she could try the Burnaby location of Persia Foods on Kingsway sometime to see if they might also carry this clotted cream! Rereading the review I wrote last time and am now reminded of the jar of eggplant I bought here previously. It was a really really good eggplant. The "roasted" flavor was very strong and so I think I should try to look for this jar of eggplant again sometime! I like the new additions that I've seen at this location. Might try the deli counter and one of their Tres Leches sometime. Also, really hoping that the Burnaby location carries that same tub of clotted cream. If they do...I think I might be baking some scones sometime in the near future!

Yeah...that in this city is a big deal. It's rare. Secondly, their produce is not only good, but you can pretty much find anything and it's very likely that it's the lowest price you can find. I can't remember the last time I bought an Avocado less than $1.99 ea. at any mainstream grocery store in Vancouver. This place had them for .64 cents ea. and they were wonderful. Their meats. Love it. Wide selection of all sorts. Personal favourite? The Mix Ground Lamb/Beef. It's awesome. Add it to your Carbone Marinara Sauce for your Penne night, and you're rockin'. If you're new to the Mediterranean culture I'm sure you'll find a handful of items in the isles that you'll find interesting. The Persian culture is hot blooded, warm, generous, fun, kind and passionate. I'd love to see some of that coming from the cashiers while checking out. Or at least a smile and a hello. Let's start there.

Whether you call it Windsor or Heringer's (Google and Yelp seem to disagree about this), one thing you cannot call this place is lackluster: everything from the quality and cuts of meats and cheeses, to sausages, salads, sauces and sides, is impeccable, mouth-watering, and a tragedy that this shop is a five hour drive (and an international border) away from my house. I'm tempted to book a hotel with a kitchenette for our annual anniversary trip to Steveston, simply to have a reason to slap together a charcuterie board for dinner, and really put this shop through its paces!

For my first time here, I purchased sultana raisins and halved walnuts to elevate my steel cut oats I make for breakfast. There are many specialty items such as Asian spices, lentils, dried fruits, amaranth, sorghum and dried goods. You'll also find Hispanic (Latin America), African, Middle Eastern, European, and South Asian foods as well. If you are in the market for any of the above hard to find ethnic items stop by this place! Tip: Do not pay for parking on the street in front. There is free parking in the back. (My favorite kind of parking!) ;)
