My house has a lighting issue. I dont mean that there is an issue with the fixtures. I mean, that even when it is sunny and all the curtains are open, it is not a bright, sunny place. Especially in my developed basement. It has many windows, but there is just not enough light in the common areas, until all the lights are on. In an effort to brighten the place up a bit, I was referred to the Home Improvement Warehouse Ltd. What a cool, COOL place! The service that was recommended to me, was to bring some of my doors in (not a bathroom door of course!!) and to cut out the middles and put in frosted glass, so that the light from my windows can be enjoyed from my office and a few other key places. The short story, is I did not even know a service like this existed! Like a fool, I would have bought a new door! So I had some help uninstalling my doors and bringing them in, and now at a reasonable rate, Home Improvement Warehouse will leave a wood border, and fill in the rest with a frosted glass, so that the light may shine! This isnt all these folks do! I bought some primer at $40 a gallon elsewhere, and found the same primer there at $26.99 (doh!). They have all kinds of gadgets and gismos for home improvements and renovations. I saw supplies and layouts for all kinds of bathroom and kitchen renos as well. Definately if you are taking on a home improvement project in Calgary, pop in here and see what they have. The prices and selections at this warehouse of handiness look pretty good to me! read more

Stay away from this business! The ad says "friendly advice" - what a laugh! I paid up front for my hardwood floors, had half of them installed, then waited 8 months for these guys to finish the job. When I went to complain to the owner I thought he might be somewhat conciliatory, maybe even apologetic and reassuring. I started off being quite reasonable, but was fairly surprised and taken aback when he was belligerent, aggressive and swore at my wife and I. He was actually fairly physically intimidating and told me that he "didn't have time for this %$^& ( I won't use his language) , and he was "done with me." Which is interesting since he had thousands of dollars of my money and I had bare sub-floors in my house. Nice. He hung up on me on several occasions after that, and gave me several opportunities to sample his impressive and extensive collection of profanity. They finally showed up to finish the job (like they were doing me a huge favour) but every time I look at my crappy hardwood floors I curse and wish I'd used another business. I have gaping gaps between the boards that you could stick a loonie in - even though Home Improvement Warehouse did the installation, and despite my top of the line humidifier. Cheap product + brutal unprofessional service = shoddy results. Take my advice and stick to reputable companies, with a proven track-record of service. If I can save one of you from going through what I did, I'll be happy. Don't shop here. read more

This business is not customer service friendly...BEWARE... If you decide to buy materials from them, make sure you do not need customer service ,if you need you are going to get yelled and intimidated by the OWNER . Was the first time at the store for me ,referred by a contractor friend of mine .I was looking to buy couple doors a pantry door and a bathroom door .They were setting the show room with all kinds of doors but not labelled so I asked the sales lady over there to assist me with the purchase( by the way she was really friendly) I showed her the door that I wanted and proceeded with her to process the order. She said that door that I ordered is going to take 2 weeks to be ready for pick up, I was fine with it, so proceeded with purchase and she gave me a paper to sign it so I did and I went to loading dock to load the other door .Not even a week I get a call from the store to go and pick the door so I go there by the end of the day processed the paper work ready to load and I see that the door didn't have the glass that I was looking for. I told the warehouse guy that the door doesn't have the right glass on it (was clear glass I ordered lam(frosted) glass).I went inside the store and asked the lady that sold me the door .I explained to her the mistake and showed her the show door that I ordered .she did realize the mistake and told me don't worry she is going to fix it for me .She went to talk inside and the owner came towards me with paperwork on his hands. He was yelling and arguing that I signed the paperwork and I own that door, I was trying to explain that I got the sales lady to order me the door because they are not labelled and I cant read the codes on paperwork and I also told him that the sales accepted the mistake ,he said I do not care she can pay it herself and if want the glass changed I have to pay extra ????What kind of business is this???Also he was saying that is not going to do it because I had an attitude and he doesn't care, waving that paper work on my face .Never experienced such a thing ready to go way without the door told him to keep it ...because I do not need it by the way the door cost is 360 dollars, He was so rude on any way that you can think,...then he decided to fix it, told me to come to pick it up in couple days ,,so I said to him thanks for doing it, he responded "whatever" wow.... wow . I cant express how I felt ,was terrible experience ...That's why I am writing these review, no one should go through what I went through.. I should point it out the sales lady was friendly and knowledgeable, tried to help and I cant imagine what she went through after I left the store . Bought a 30 inch interior door with frame. Came to install it, was too big for opening. turned out they messed up with the order. They gave us a 32 inch instead. Called and spoke to the manager. Told her they gave us the wrong size and that the door is 32 inches. She said that the frame is 32 inches. I told her, no the door is 32 inches. She said I was being rude to her, when I was just frustrated at her second guessing me. She said she had to see the door, still assuming I was wrong and she was right. When she saw that the door was actually 32 inches she offered a 10% discount which was about $9, which we thought was nothing compared to the hassle they put us through. She then blamed us for not checking the size prior to them loading it, seriously.... We had to do their job for them! She told us we can speak to the owner. She hurried off to speak to him first. As we went to see him, he came to us and before we said a word, he started raising his voice at us, trembling, telling us this is how it goes... We didn't give him a chance to continue because we were insulted enough. It turned out that she was his daughter. His treatment towards us was even worse than his daughter's. We had spent almost $500 there. You'd think they would have some appreciation for a customer spending that much in their establishment. And jump to the chance of rectifying an inconvenient situation in a respectful manner, to gain our trust and business once again. B U Y E R B E W A R E !!! I was in this store a few weeks ago and saw some product that could potentially be used as an alternative to composite decking. I spoke to the girl at the front desk and she told me that "a lot" of people have come in to buy this product for their decks. I was apprehensive to buy the product because I was concerned about expansion and contraction issues, but she told me that it won't expand or contract because of the way it is made. Shortly after installation, I noticed small gaps in the product. A few days later, the gaps got larger and the product was also starting to buckle; basically it was expanding and contracting too much. After a couple of weeks, the gaps are now 1/2" wide and there is buckling everywhere. The entire deck surface has to be removed and scrapped. After writing an email to the managers, they told me that the sales girl said she has never told anyone that this product can be used on a deck. Essentially, she was untruthful to me about this product when she was trying to sell it to me, and now she was being untruthful to management. I asked for a 50% refund due to the fact that she misrepresented the product and I still have not heard back from the managers. I guess their lack of response is their way of accusing me of being untruthful about what the sales girl said to me. I don't know if their sales people are paid commissions, but it would certainly explain why she sold me this product (anything for a sale). Hopefully a few people will read this review and it will save you the money that I lost due to deceitful salesmanship and management who don't care about their customers. If I can prevent one person from being taken by poor salesmanship from these people, then it will be well worth the $640.00 they refuse to refund me. read more

I would stay away from them. I had 2 separate (bad) experiences. 1st... I bought an exterior door and the installer came out and said he could do my storm door as well for an extra fee. Sure, why not. After the storm door blew off I contacted them to see about getting it fixed. Turns out the installer wasn't authorized to fix it and he was doing it "on the side". Installer was also not working there anymore so response was "Sorry, can't do anything". OK, fine... I can understand (though not happy about it). FF to a few years later. Found some flooring there at a good price, spoke to owners daughter and she HIGHLY recommended her installer. Well, he busted a hole in my wall and we had to call him back to fit, the "nosing" on the stairs is a joke, it's basically bare wood moderately stained (but big $$$ to have it done). and then it started chipping within 2 (?) days from walking on it in bare feet. Contacted Ian (the installer) and he said I must of "abused" the floors and he wouldn't do anything about it. Despite a humidifier in the house, the flooring is gaping and pulling away from the walls in spots. This installer is a joke. Due to a dying parent I wasn't in as much touch with the owners daughter as I should of been and when I FINALLY got her she said "It's not my employee, bring it up with him". Way to stand behind people you HIGHLY recommend.Stay away, they'll just take your cash and not live up to any issues. read more

I decided to purchase more flooring than I needed from Home Warehouse for a large reno. My concern at the time (since I live 70 km away) was not to be caught short and have to drive in again to buy more to complete the job. This was discussed with them at point of sale and was assured that I could return any unopened packages. This was good enough for me to complete the sale. Later when I came back to return some unopened boxes the same person would not accept them. He pointed out "no returns"on the bill of sale which was hidden in the description. I admit it was my fault in not looking over the invoice very carefully at the time of the sale. However, after I was guaranteed that I could return any unused boxes, it was still very sneaky of this company to slip in "no return" on the bill of sale moments later.
