These guys are awful.eta start with the movers they suggest, they are expensive and the send out guys who aren't the best at what they do. By the time you pay for them to remove your items and the huge cut the consignment center takes, there's no money to be made for you!!! Your items will be discounted to pennies on the dollar! They're cut is like 70%!!! After 30 days they'll call you requesting to discount 30% immediately! If you don't agree, they get very angry and abusive reciting they have the rif gt to discount or even throw awwww your items!!!! After 30 days they'll even suggest just donating your items! The jewelry consignment department is A++. I have sold over 25 pieces of my mother's jewelry that was gathering dust in the safe deposit box. I brought it to the Home Consignment Center jewelry dept, and ALL of it sold. I was excited to get fair prices for my pieces, and now I will be able to buy some jewelry that is more my style. There are always such nice quality rings, necklaces, bracelets, pins etc in the glass cases. It's fun to peruse, and dream. Confussing time for us all-it will get better! I was so excited they are re-opening. I really need furniture as we downsized and gave most of our large furniture to a charity in Figi. Sadly with the virus, I still can't go out due to under-riding illness- but my husband can... So I called the store. I asked if they had a type of dining room table- a specific size. they said: Yes, but they had only dark woods.'' i said: 'well, okay, let me take a peek, can you please send me a text when you have a moment, since I am not able to go out'?' The woman said: ' sorry we do not do that' and disconnected. Well, i guess i am just a bit disappointed, as I am realizing, I am going to become the newest type of left out person in society, due to the virus. I can't go out, many will not be able too, until there is a Vaccine. I just wonder, how hard would it be, to take a pic? To send it, and then let my husband go see it in person, if we liked it? i so want to support local places, NOT to buy on Amazon, yet, at least i can see a picture on their site. Maybe i am nuts? To sencitive? But i am a bit afraid, that this will become part of the new way of life, for seniors and people with underly health problems. We stay home, so we do not get sick, and also, so we will not put extra pressure on the health system. Just asking a a little help. Overpriced used furniture. We were interested in a set of table and chairs. Luckily we went home and researched because we were able to get a brand new set for about 1/2 of the cost delivered for free with warranties. There may be some unique things there but just be warned about pricing and actual value. Do your homework. read more

My family and I were from out of town and our car broke down. We pulled over in the home parking lot which is right off the 101. The manager Jim came out and showed us the most amazing hospitality. Made sure we were all ok. Offered us water from the spicket out back if the engine needed any. He shared the story of the man with the 3 mules. And how he's passed by and given his mules water from the very spicket. We filled up our car with mule water, as we refer to it now. And off we continued on our own journey down the 101. MIXED BLESSING As a Buyer.... Everything others have said about shopping here is true. Place is crammed with no sense of organization or creature comforts in mind. Prices seem really high for used furniture. Now it appears they are selling new furniture that is cheap, but not inexpensive (i.e. hecho in China). There do seem to be a lot of buyers milling around. As a Seller... Everything sent over there has sold. I think. Why aren't I sure? Well, I got a couple of checks from them, but they were are not accompanied by any backup documentation. No notation of what pieces the check is for, what the sale price is, nothing. The only reason I haven't gone through the trouble of calling and getting some answers is because these where items that I was on the verge of donating, so it was cool to get something rather than nothing. Somehow, I get the feeling that I'm not getting my full 40% cut, but it's only a feeling. So, my unsolicited advice is...don't sell anything here unless you don't really care about the net proceeds. If you do care, then plan on going over to the store regularly to see what they have priced your item at, including taking a picture, and then ask for backup if your item sells. If you're a buyer, do your homework first so you know prices. Don't be shy about asking for discounts. read more

Sometimes I go on a cleaning binge. I've done it a few times in my life, but none such as severe as the one I'm in the midst of and have been working on since Thanksgiving of 07. I've gotten rid of almost everything. It's fantastic. All that shit that isn't mine, that I don't want, that I've been carrying around just because it's "expensive" or "cool" when it's not practical and it's not really that cool when I think about it. Some of it's beautiful, but I'm so fucking tired of looking at it I swear that I'D PAY someone to take it off my hands. It's antique, it's heavy, it's beautiful (definitely a certain style) and it was just too damn expensive. Let's get rid of it. "But honey, what do we do with it? It's too nice to go to Goodwill. Craigslist?" Yeah, yeah, Craigslist is great and all but really, I just don't have time to respond to emails (I'm too busy yelping, priorities bitches) and show all those people my shit. I want it gone, and want it gone now. So what do you do? Call your movers and have 'em drop all your stuff off at Home Consignment Center. All the rest of what they don't take, shit guys, let it go and donate it to Ritter House or Goodwill. Remember, your crap is someone elses fabulousness. Almost all of my stuff is gone and sold from Home Consignment. It's kind of exciting. I get checks in the mail every once and a while and go buy myself something unnecessary with it. It almost feels like free money. I've also found great buys there of beautiful furniture and accessories that are priced incredibly low. You get paid low there, but you can also buy low, so it's pretty much a wash. Check back often though, as sometimes there is nothing but crap. It's like finding a diamond in a rough, a classier version of a yard sale, with bigger heavier things with higher price tags. Kinda fun to dig through though every once and a while. read more

I think this store is crowded, overpriced and in general tacky. I get that it's a consignment but its not an overpriced yard sale. Each time I have been here I walk through the maze of furniture and hit a road block of end tables or couches and am forced to retreat the path I took. This isn't a good way to sell things, not to mention probably a fire code violation. My aunt bought a lamp for me and it wasn't my style, I called and asked if I could return or exchange it with the tags still on it. But the sales woman said "no returns, but you can consign it!" I don't understand why anyone bothers with this place - but obviously, there are people who like what I am about to describe, because the parking lot is packed with cars nearly every waking hour. This building is crammed with furniture. Nothing is organized so if you want to see all your queen-size bed choices, plan to wander every square inch - I recommend a jet pack so you can hover over everything and then zone in on what you find interesting - cause walking through this place is nearly impossible. No aisles, no walkways - where is the fire marshall? If you had to get out of here fast, it would not be easy to do. Then there is the selection - most of what I've seen is either a style that went out of fashion 12-years ago, or it is some current, but over-the-top design that is either not comfortable, or doesn't match anything else you have at home. Kind of like watching the pictures of runway models - you can appreciate the design intent but you would never actually wear it - same with the selection here. Finally price - for the quality and the selection, I'm surprised at the high prices. Perhaps there is room to haggle, but after navigating through this place trying to find something I actually need, I'm too tired for that. read more

While this place is definitely hit or miss, I think it's generally worth investigating. Sometimes it's fantastic (I've grabbed some great stuff at even greater prices) and sometimes it's crap. It's a consignment store - what do you expect? The pricing doesn't always make sense to me - which sometimes works in your favor. Which leads me to my biggest point... **Whenever you buy something - ask if the price marked is the lowest they can go. After driving past this place and seeing the parking lot bustling, I thought I had to pop in. What a great find! I brought in a few items that I no longer wanted in my room. I wanted to consign four items and they took all four items. Remember, if you want to sell previous items, your options are garage sales, craigslist, consignment shops or goodwill. As far as I'm concerned, consignment is the most hassle free option. Especially, if you aren't attached to the items, getting some money is better then no money. Keep in mind the split is 50/50. I have heard that it takes awhile to get the check in the mail, but as long as you aren't depending on it, it will be a nice surprise. As far as buying, there were tons of great finds. I had to put my blinders on as I wanted a tons of trunks and dressers. Great prices for previously used items. Of course there were items that weren't my taste, but tons of items that I would want to own. So much fun looking around to get design ideas. If you have thirty minutes to kill I recommend popping over to Home Consignment in Corte Madera and Design Plus in San Rafael. Both are a great change to mall shopping. My husband and I wandered over to Home Consignment Center a couple of days ago, curious to see if the place would live up to the reviews that we read. We were unfortunately a little bit disappointed. We saw a lot of uninteresting, large scale, suburban-ish furniture. I know that you need to go to places like this several times in order to find something great to take home, but you usually see a few items that you can't help but admire...I didn't have that feeling. I might pop in one more time if I'm in the neighborhood because I'm curious to see if my opinion changes, but I wouldn't drive a great distance. read more

I called Home consignment to follow up on something I had left there. I wasn't able to follow up right away as I work nights and my schedule is opposite most. A ring I left there for about a year now was there and I was following up with there price reduction offer. When I first called the lady told me she couldn't hear me, I moved and we were conversating and she asked me my name, several times. I was spelling my name and numerous times she cut me off as well as never allowing me to explain why I was calling. She looked 2 times after telling her my name and laughed while trying to locate my paperwork. Not sure what's funny about a ring that costs over $2000 not being able to be located at that moment. She went to the computer and asked me my last name, again. Again, I spelt it out phonetically but she cut me off before I was done spelling it, again. I spelt it again when she still had it wrong, meanwhile, she hasn't mentioned again she couldn't hear me but when she starts to tell me what she was going to do even though I hadn't told her why I was calling, she then decided to use it as an excuse. I told her she was having a conversation with me the whole time and she chose to cut me off every time and I didn't find anything about the conversation amusing. She told me they were calling about a 6 month review, although when they first called it had been at least ten months, a red flag to me immediately. Obviously they are not keeping track of things appropriately because I dropped the ring off in end of May/early June of 2017 and they called end of April/beginning of May, don't know what math that is. I was trying to, again, tell her why I was calling and that I didn't want to lower the price and I either wanted to keep it at the original price or pick it up to bring somewhere else and she asked me what I wanted to do. I proceeded to ask if I could keep it there at the same price and she tried telling me they were calling for a 6 month review, somehow finding out why I was calling finally when she never let me speak to begin with. After I explained it had been longer than 6 months so I was confused how that even added up, she cut me off, AGAIN, and told me I can pick it up. Great customer service and handling a problem. If you want people who work in customer service to treat you poorly, bring your things there! If not, seek somewhere else. They must have forgot they are in a business of customer service and they should probably listen to why the customer is calling first before interrupting, multiple times. I will never allow my family or friends bring their things back to this company again because of the poor customer service. I have worked in customer service 10+ years, they definitely need a lesson and to realize what business they are working in. Do not bring your things here. read more

That said I would like to give my highest rating to their jewelry department and especially to David Hurley who helped me with the sale of a Rolex watch. Love it! Just bought a buffet from these guys and it was beautiful. The delivery was only $75. They came on time, put it in place and that was that. The selection at this store is great. It's really hit or miss if you're looking for something specific. Just made my first purchase at the home consignment store, and I was pretty excited since I was saving $75 and labor. This was until I took the dresser home and noticed that one of the sides was coming apart. I found the missing pieces inside the drawer, which doesn't open and close properly anymore since the side is too far away. 15 minutes I've had this dresser and I'm pretty disappointed. The team here is knowledgeable and easy to work with. We request Jim, HCC's furniture surveyor every time we have pieces to sell. He knows his stuff and aims to please. The team at HCC always goes above and beyond to make a customer happy, especially Reluca who works on the floor and front desk. She knows the inventory like the back of her hand. They have an excellent system for when you need your pieces picked up or delivered and their delivery guys Adolfo and Edgar are super stars! My partner and I were on the market for a sofa and stopped in to this store for the first time after my parents highly recommended it. We were initially impressed by the quality of furniture and prices; however, became quickly disillusioned after a negative encounter with a saleswoman. We initially asked if we could purchase 2 of 3 pieces of a sectional and were met with a wince and "no." Later, after looking at a specific couch the same saleswoman (short, grey hair and glasses) came up and informed us that the piece we were looking at was a particular brand. When we apparently lacked the enthusiasm that she was pulling for, she followed up with, "I'm not sure if you know what that is." We said we did not. She then told us to "research it." She followed up by saying that this particular brand was a "very good sofa" and that we should "do some research when purchasing large furniture items." Although this unsolicited advice may sound well intentioned, the tone in which it was delivered came across as condescending and, frankly, ageist (my partner and I look younger than we are, and it is highly improbable that this woman would have spoken the same way to older customers). Furthermore, we are professionals (I am a doctor and my partner is in finance) who are vigilant about our purchases, so to assume that we would not do our diligence with regard to researching purchases was just plain offensive. Although the store overall seemed decent, this kind of customer (lack of) service was a real turnoff for us, and not motivating for making future purchases here. read more

I am not a fan of their Jewelry department. I have purchased furniture at this location and I have been very satisfied so I felt I could trust them. I have always done well with my trusted jewelers, but my peeps were closed and I had a deadline.I learned that there are no returns on jewelry and I should not have bought anything here. After doing a little bit of research I paid $200 for an item worth $60 and the other item was also grossly overpriced. I tried to sell an expensive black dining table at the Home Consignment Center a few months ago. I sent clear pictures twice along with the table dimensions and they offered me a price to sell it for. Although it was lower than expected, I still agreed to sell it. We drove over the piece and unloaded the table ourselves. We provided the email to the person onsite and a lady from the store told us the table was too small and would not accept it. I would expect better service. I provided the exact dimensions in my email. I shouldn't have to spend all this time driving it over and presenting it to the store in person when I was already clear about the dimensions ahead of time. I wasn't going to write a review but since I keep getting emailed and you insist on a review from me, I decided to write on. I was not satisfied in my personal experience. read more

I love this place to buy and sell furniture. Very easy to get started. You just bring your furniture and they will assess the value with you. At the end of the day you get a check in the mail. I think the middle process could be a bit more transparent. Unfortunately, they go dark while your furniture is on consignment. I think it would be helpful if the system would periodically send you emails providing status of your piece of furniture being consigned. The system could also suggest new price setting if the piece has not sold by a certain timeframe. I think automating the middle process would make it more efficient for staff and provide another level of customer experience. Awesome store. read more

I went to Home Consignment Center today and two men, who work there moving furniture, were saying obscenities about me in Spanish without knowing that I could understand everything they were saying. When I told one of the women who work there, she just stared blankly at me and said the manager wasn't available. It was a horrible experience and I will never shop there again. read more

Although the salesperson apologized, I am very disappointed in my experience shopping here. I found a dresser that had been scheduled for donation so was discounted significantly. We placed a hold sticker on the item so that I could come back the next day to pick it up. I was assured it would be on hold until the following day at close of business. About noon the following day, I went in to find that the night before a different employee pulled the hold because it was $1 less than the minimum hold value allowed and sold it at close of business. They had all of my contact information, yet no one called me. The salesperson that I worked with was very apologetic and willing to help me find another similar item, but I felt it was a little shady. Especially because the other patron that had been there the day before, & was eyeballing the same item, was also there again... I'm not sure how the sales team is managed, but that seemed like a dirty move by the other salesperson. I left feeling disappointed that I didn't get my item, even though it had my name on it, but also felt bad that the salesperson I was working with got swindled by her co worker. Besides that, most everything in the jam packed store is VERY over priced! Also, it was extremely difficult to find anyone to help me, which makes how quickly my item was sold after it had been sitting there for weeks, that much more difficult to believe. I wouldn't recommend shopping here unless you know exactly what you want, exactly what you want to spend and you don't care for help from a salesperson. read more

I have twice tried to bring items to consign, things in perfect condition that were more upscale (Henredon, Williams Sonoma) and expensive than the rustic, thin, homely items on display. The first time the saleswoman walked away mid-sentence as she was saying they didn't think they would sell. The second time I had to deal with a chain of people each needing to ask someone else if they wanted to take the piece. Someone who apparently was their 'authority' said no, although she was nicer about it than the others. I offered that item on Next Door and got 6 offers in a bidding war. If it doesn't say RalphLauren, these people don't know quality case goods, tables and beds. And their customer service is severely lacking.
