We came to this spot on our most recent trip to Mexico city and were overall wow'ed by the food, service, and ambiance! They're first and foremost an omakase style restaurant but you could also come here for an a la carte meal and just buy dishes that you enjoy.
It was a bit confusing when we first arrived as we weren't sure how to enter the restaurant (you enter through the curtains, not a door). Upon arrival though we were greeted and were told that bar seats were available over the table seats we originally reserved. Go for the bar seats, its where all the action happens and its a small space so you get to see the chefs cook and prep. It was a bit chilly when we went and our hostess offered blankets to keep us warm and she helped wrap us up so that our shoulders stayed warm even with the chilly air behind us.
We ended up getting their highest omakase, which was a more modern take on omakase. I really enjoyed our meal and thought that the service and explanations throughout felt very intimate and I enjoyed learning about the various fish and dishes. I really liked that they incorporated traditional Japanese new year's dishes and absolutely loved one of the small apps that had taro and scallop. The various nigiri were also really fun, with my absolute favorite bite of the night being an unagi nigiri with shaved foie gras on top. It was rich, decadent, and the flavors/textures were all so good together. The foie melted and coated my tongue and the savoriness of the eel went well with it. Honestly, flavorwise, there weren't many misses for me and I really enjoyed the variety.
Though there was so much I enjoyed and flavorwise, loved everything, I had to give 4 stars as there were some technical flaws in the execution of the food. For a more expensive meal, I was surprised to find fish bones and scales in my soup. This could be pretty dangerous for someone to find and definitely was a negative point for my experience. The other piece was the dessert pastry ring was quite overbaked, leaving it a bit dry and hard and not flakey and tender as I would have hoped.
Overall, would I come back? Absolutely. I see a lot of promise at this restaurant and hope they see a steady flow of patrons. The care they take for their food and the thoughtful mix of flavors and textures definitely shows. I just hope some of the minor flaws will get sorted out! read more
