Arrived around 8:30PM and had our choice of seating. The space is large, with o covered outdoor seating, sushi bar, inside seating, and a really beautifully decorated back space. Our server Santos was extremely knowledgeable of the menu, we asked for recommendations for each course and he did not disappoint. The staff worked as a team to keep our table clean, bring us our food, and generally attend to us. Some vegetarian options it seemed. And the menu is available in English in addition to Spanish. Our food was fresh, delicious, and exceeded our expectations. We ate so much but walked away not feeling over indulged. Ramen was a bit mid here and our particular server didn't speak up so it was a bit hard to hear him. My sushi was ok. Nothing bad, but nothing amazing either. We had a Wednesday date nite at one of the most sleekest restaurants in the city. Deciding a sushi option from the menu wasn't the easiest and after some debate I finally settled on the Pollo Karaage that was marinated chicken strips with a side of pasta Karaage, and lettuce cilantro included. My friend ordered something even more specially which were dumplings called Gyoza. It came with carne de cerdo and a vegetable mix. Found this place on Yelp since I was craving some sushi, nice place, easy to get a table. Though tables are really small so keep in mind when ordering. Service was exceptional except when I paid my bill in cash, the waiter returned t my table and told me that I have to tip more! I have never heard of such a thing in Mexico since this is my 15th trip to the city itself. I know it's not mandatory in cdmx to tip so this caught me off guard. Koku was a fantastic find. I was looking for a fusion restaurant (this one is Japanese inspired) instead of the usual Mexican cuisine. I enjoyed many items on the menu including the Gyoza in Curry appetizer and Tori Yakimeshi as an entrée. Both dishes were extremely flavorful and satisfying. I also ordered some tacos but I would not recommend them. They were too fishy! The best part was the dessert. This place has just opened up recently. The place is super clean and all of the equipment and decor is brand new. The staff is super nice. When you are seated, your given a wet packaged towel to clean/refresh with. I think it would have been better if they were served warm/hot instead of being room temperature. It was still a really nice touch. The chop sticks have a QR code with the menu. The food was great. Lots of Ramen and other noodle options and decent alcohol selection. I ordered an Asahi. The gyoza and dipping sauce was really good and the Tonkotsu Traditional Especial was fantastic. You can add additional toppings for a nominal charge. The food was beyond amazing. I had a regular ramen soup. The broth was amazing and the pork was so crispy yet it melted in my mouth. I also had a California roll that was to die for. My co-workers and I love this place, but I think I like the ambiance more than the food itself. Surprisingly, there is an endless array of Japanese food options in Mexico City, including in the immediate area of Koku. There are better options. Certainly more expensive, but better. Still, you can't go wrong with a big bowl of ramen here for $110 MXN (about $5.50 US). Unfortunately, the lunch packet menu is somewhat confusing (and no, not because it's in Spanish, or Japanese). The menu is also way too big, like most other Japanese restaurants, I suppose. It could be smaller if they cut out the taco options, for starters. Why do Mexicans have to Mexicanize everything?! Either way, the portion sizes are very generous and the always-friendly staff offers reliable service. read more

Eg: We ordered the sashimi plate and asked for no octopus, but the waiter said, "Well, it's the chef's choice what goes in the dish." (Really? Each time I visit here I order Nigiri Omakase that I was quite satisfied with. Today it was terrible. At the moment it was served it stinked. The sashimi on each piece was doubtful if it ever mer "sashimi grade" and the rice as well was horrible. Good sushi. Standard. Nothing super special. Quite skimpy on portion sizes. Sliced much thinner than I am accustomed to (think carpaccio thickness) which was a notable detractor. Skimpy tako nigiri arrived as a single piece. Haven't seen that before. Not in over 100 different sushi restaurants. Liked the idea of fusion going on here, but again hampered by seafood skimping in the tacos. Whiskey flambé brownie was tasty, but overpowered by alcohol that had quickly soaked into the brownie and had done a very incomplete burn off. It also badly needed a cream of some sort to balance the intense chocolate-alcohol flavors. Ice cream or whipped cream should come with it or be suggested. The two of us had a light dinner, ordering conservatively and drinking water, so the 1150 peso price tag seemed very excessive. read more

I am not a sushi person, but my boyfriend is so we went to Koku, and they have so many choices for non-sushi eaters! I was pleasantly surprised. We were feeling soup, so I got the Misoshiru (delicious) and he got Ramen which he said was delicious, as well as a tuna and avocado roll. I also love the Yakimeshi for a non-sushi dish; they asked if I wanted shrimp, chicken, or pork-- I went with chicken and it was delicious! Slightly fried but not too much. We waited longer than the 20 minutes they told us it would be. There were 7 of us. We were seated at a small table. The patio was pleasant. We all something a little different. Sushi, ramen, rice bowls, gyoza. It was all horrible. The rice was just with soy sauce, the ramen had no flavor and the flavor of the teriyaki was gross. Even the gyoza no one wanted. And then in the middle of the night a number of us woke up nauseated and with tremendous stomach distress.
