What a terrible experience, start to finish. The hapless hostess checked to see if a table was cleared and returned and asked us to follow her. We did, as she walked into the kitchen so she could get a towel to wipe the table down. Well, or move a wet towel over the table. It was still sticky. There were no plates, napkins, or silverware on the table, and we weren't given a drinks menu. After about 10 minutes without anyone coming by, we finally flagged down someone who looked like the manager and got a drink menu. The waitress finally showed up and we ordered everything right then, for fear we would never see her again. We did flag down someone again and ask for the table to be wiped down. The drink I had was nice. The curds app was ok. A lot of oozed, empty curd shells, though. When our food arrived, they forgot my husband's tacos. Meanwhile, I noticed my burger was sitting in a puddle of some liquid (grease or juices) to the point I couldn't pick it up for the soaking bottom bun. So I cut it in two, and I'm glad I did. My medium burger wasn't even quite mid-rare. It was bright red all the way through. After setting the dish aside for about five minutes and awaiting anyone to walk by, we grabbed the same guy and pointed out that the burger was underdone. He then came back and asked what level of doneness I wanted and I said medium. He then said that that was their medium, that their mid-well was pink throughout, and well had some pink in the middle. I then asked for mid-well by that standard. When he returned, my burger was a real mid-well - a small stripe of pink in the middle. Meanwhile, the hubby's fish tacos' shells were supposed to be soft tacos, but they had crisped (as if they were either stale or left on the griddle too long to heat up. My side salad was simply sad and had a bit of a musty smell to it when I got toward the bottom. The hapless hostess struck again when she seated a couple next to us - it was a four-top and even though no one was seated on the other side, she placed them at the side of the table closest to us. It's a head-shaker. The waitress finally checked back in on us, after my second burger was served and I was almost halfway done. When we expressed our disappointment at the burger issue, she did offer to by us a round of drinks on the house, but we were done by then. She then offered free dessert when we asked for the check, but again, we were done. read more

After months of driving by seeing a bustling Holt's almost every time, we finally got a chance to try it out. After reading all the mixed reviews, I didn't have high expectations and was just looking forward to trying out a new place in town. We were actually very pleasantly surprised! The cheese curds were the best I've ever had. Very lightly battered on the outside (almost fluffy) while being both cheesy and gooey on the outside. Delicious. I had the fish tacos. It's technically an appetizer, but the three large tacos are definitely big enough for a meal. Again, delicious, and with just a sampling of the cheese curds and one taco I was stuffed! The other two individuals in my party split a small pizza, thoroughly enjoyed it, and still had leftovers, so definitely generous portion sizes here. Our server, Blake, was very attentive and had a smile on her face the entire time. I will most definitely be back to Holt's and will recommend it to friends and family. One thing to note is that it's surprisingly small inside so, while there was no wait for a weekday lunch, I can definitely see how there would be a wait on evenings and weekends. Been there only once and I must say not a huge fan. They did not win our heart even tough the place is very crowded each time I drive by. Food was ok, staff - just ok as well. I wish it was quieter and had tables instead of big benches - that are good for parties and families but give you no privacy and space when you need to share with other patrons. Very nice look with a trendy ambiance and decor. We were a group of 7 at the high tables in the front on a Thursday night about 7pm. Not crowded at all, but it was pretty loud and impossible to hear the far end of the table without yelling. Lighting was up and down. At one point so dark it was hard to see my food, but for the light of the wide screen TV over us. Restrooms located in the passing corridor for the waitstaff from kitchen to bar/restaurant. Very tight area!! Only one accident of crashing plates, while we we were there though! Had the cheese curds; nothing special. The chopped salad was tasty, but salty. We had a variety of pizzas (we were sharing) and they were all SALTY. Like poured salt over them salty. The Moscow Mule in the tin cup was delish. Very friendly server. Nice evening out, but I wouldn't go outta my way to get back there. read more

We decided to try this place as it looked interesting from the outside. We were there for lunch on a Saturday. The food was better then expected. I had the burger and a salad. The salad was fresh and the burger was flavorful. My daughter had the sloppy joe which was really good too. The fries were soggy and not hot. The main problem with this place is the service. Our server never came to see if we needed anything else. I ran out of water and had to drink my daughters. We waited forever to get our check and would have waited longer if we didn't get up and ask the waiter for it. It seems like they don't have enough help. read more

I wanted to like this place! I was so excited to FINALLY try it out! I went during Sunday brunch and it was just short of being a disaster. I ordered the breakfast burrito and it was served soggy, sloppy, and flavorless. The O'Brien potatoes were cold. Our server didn't check on us either so my husband and I had to trade off using the single set of utensils at the table. There weren't enough napkins to go around, even when we asked for more. We were a table of 3 so this was also disappointing. They didn't bus our table so our purses and credit cards were drenched in water from the condensation on the glasses. There were flies buzzing EVERYWHERE (on the food, tables, drinks, people, etc) because of the open windows. It was so hot because it was so crowded and they didn't have their ceiling fans going! Also, The changing table for babies in the women's bathroom isn't in one of the stalls. It's in the tiny walkway where all of the door converge so it made for an unnecessarily tight experience. When we were leaving, a bus boy nearly flipped over a tall table when he was clearing it, which made for some starred guests. My friend liked her dish of the crab eggs Benedict though! read more

I will start off by saying the review has nothing to do with food. Our party enjoyed the food and would go back, however, it would have to be under different circumstances. Since outdoor seating we've been to 3 outdoor restaurants (Holt's being the 3rd) we felt comfortable and safe both in environment and staff at the other 2 but did not at Holt's. Our waitress did not wear a mask throughout our entire stay and got too close for comfort when taking our order. The person we believe to be the manager wasn't wearing a mask and was walking throughout the restaurant picking up plates and cleaning. There were 0 social distancing protocols near and in the bathroom, people were walking in and out of the restaurant to order and drink from the bar (even went as far as drinking at the bar), the bartenders were sticking their bare hands in the garnish container for lemon wedges and putting it on peoples drinks and touching the straws.. again.. food was good, staff was friendly, but given the current situation we felt VERY uncomfortable and think the restaurant should re-evaluate its procedures. read more

This is a great addition to Park Ridge; a family-friendly restaurant unique to the area, and also a large bar for adults to have drinks. The inside has huge front windows that open to the sidewalk, along with shuffleboard fun and lots of TVs. Went for breakfast. Very nice place. Very good food was served. A VERY LIMITED MENU. Too limited. Went back for dinner on a Sunday.. It was the only place I could get in. All the other places were full. Id say it was at 70% capacity. Ordered a drink on special. It took about 30 minutes to tell me they were out of it. So I had water rather than wait 30 minutes to order another drink. I ordered a steak sand which well done, no cheese, add onion...It took one hour and five minutes for it to come out. It had cheese and everything else I did not want and it was a very rare piece of meat, not well-done..The person I was eating with was done with their food already by the time I got mine. So I skipped the steak replacement ...And went to eat at Pennyville down the street. I was not going to wait another hour for my food. So Like a dummy. I went back the next week end for breakfast. There a two couples ahead of me looking for a table. The first one spoke to the girl doing the seating. And left. The couple in front of me. Asked for a table, spoke to the girl doing the seating and left. Went some where else to eat. Now , my turn. It was explained to me, and I guess also previously to the people in front of me. That they have a new menu for breakfast. You pay 19.99..And get one of these , one of those , a plate of this and that. I have no idea what the lady was talking about. All I heard was you pay. You eat what we give you. Too bad. So I left..And I am not going back..I am not the only one walking out ok. The people in front of me did also. .And that is that... Nice place. Messed up menu. They have a decent draft beer selection and I had the pub burger which was delicious. I had two different local beers. We also had cheese curds, they were good but not plentiful. Limited menu choices of burgers, salads and pizza. They do have a small kids menu. My wife and daughter had a goat cheese and grapes pizza, they liked it. I'm not a big fan of non traditional piazzas, but they do make everything from scratch for their pizzas. The owner is the son of the couple that owns Rannali's pizza in Lincoln Park. Not a lot of seating available. Expect to wait on the weekends. read more

Giving it 3 reviews because I'm excited that a new restaurant has hit Park Ridge and the interior is pretty cool. Took quite a while for waitress to come to our table. Wine arrived and the amount in the glass was low. Would love to see the menu have more items but understand that this is new and that they are working things out. But please add more items to the menu. Would love to make this a regular place to visit. The Sauvignon Blanc was excellent and the beer choices are really good. Sat at a high top table that was intended for beer and ice in the middle. Makes it a little awkward or quite frankly more than a little awkward when you're trying to eat with a family of four. Totally get the concept as you would like this to be a fun place to have some beers in the middle with ice but trying to put plates in the middle of 4 people sharing plates gets a little awkward as I could fall in the hole where the beer and ice could be. Cheese curds were good. Arugula salad was very good with the beets. All the other food was decent and would come again but would like to see it improve as it gets its leg. Understands the restaurant its been open for only 5 days and willing to work with that. Here's hoping for the best. One last note. Don't know what it is about Park Ridge and high lighting but it could use just a tad bit turned down on the light to give a little bit more ambience. I keep coming back for the wonderful goat cheese and grape New Haven pizza( trust me, you will thank me) and I'm craving it now! Paired with a bottle of Pinot noir makes for a comfy and delicious night. I have been back several times in last few weeks. The only slightly bad though is very crowded( no where for folks to really wait either) and noisy, hard to get service and lots of kids who love to kick the metal bench- ding. I have been here 3 times now; twice for dinner and once for brunch. I love the look of the place, it is a great addition to Park Ridge. Holt's has a pretty limited menu but most everything has been delicious thus far. They pride themselves on using fresh ingredients and it really comes through in their product. Appetizers - so far I have had the wings and cheese curds. These are both pretty standard appetizers but are still very well done. Breakfast items - I have tried the crab benedict and the biscuits and gravy. The crab was very fresh (had just arrived to the restaurant 10 minutes before we ordered) and the eggs were cooked to perfection. I recommend trying this. Holt's has a lighter take on biscuits and gravy. The gravy was a thinner than normal sausage gravy and the biscuit wasn't as dense as I've had elsewhere. It was still good but I preferred the benedict. Dinner Items - I have tried one of the pizza's, a burger and the salmon BLT. All three of these were delicious and the salmon was really fresh. Someone at my table ordered the grilled cheese & tomato soup and they loved it - its more food than you'd expect. Drinks - Holt's made pretty good cocktails and has a good local beer menu. read more

This place got 3 stars because food is a definite 5 star and service is a 2 star. I keep coming back to this place because the food is really good, however, every time I visit this establishment I leave angry due to the poor wait service. I understand it's no high end restaurant but checking back on your table leas than three times the whole visit is definitely poor service. My husband and I went to eat with our 18 mo the old, granted I ordered her personal kids pizza 3 mins after I ordered ours doesn't mean it had to come out 20 mins after we had already gotten and ate our meal. Every time I asked the waitress about the pizza she kept saying "it's coming".... eventually after 3 it's coming I decided to cancel my order due to the fact my daughter was now cranky and we have waited long enough. Low and behold as soon as I cancel the order it comes out..... it was so hot the cheese wouldn't even stay on the crust. I have never been so disappointed there. Needless to say the food is not worth the aggravation from the wait staff. She couldn't even check to refill our water or ask us if we wanted another round of drinks. Loved the atmosphere in here but our service was terrible. We waited 15 minutes just to get a water. Our waitress never asked us how our food was once. They were not busy so there should be no excuse as to why we waited so long. The pizza we ordered was burn't on half of it so we didn't even finish our food. Super bummed it didn't work out for our first visit. Was really hoping this could be my family's new spot for a meal out as we live in Park Ridge. First time and last at this place. We had a reservation yesterday 8/7/18, but despite that waited for 25 minutes past our reservation time, when asked about when we would be seated, they told us we could sit at the high tables if we'd like which had been free the entire time we waited. Wonder why we hadn't been offered them initially. With two starving kids in tow, we took our seats. It was another 20 minutes before anyone came by. I have no idea where the waitress was and we finally asked the busboy to flag her down. Our waitress (Sarah) who nearly burst my right ear drum as she shouted at us while she took our order. I literally had to move my body away from her to protect my hearing (no joke). We ordered. Despite ordering an appetizer, it came along with the rest of the food which again took a very long time to come out. The fried zucchini appetizer was a bit bland for my taste but my son ate every last bite as he was very hungry. The pesto pizza was okay. The burger was fine, but I needed ketchup. Unfortunately the waitress didn't show up again until she handed us a check so no ketchup for me! My husband drank the remnants of every bodies water as our glasses were never filled and nobody checked to see if we needed anything. Service was terrible. When I looked at the check, I realized our waitress had mistakenly charged for my kid's lemonade when it was included in her meal. Sarah told me that drinks were not included in the kids meals to which I pointed at the menu which clearly stated "all kids meals include a drink" to which she replied "that really shouldn't be on there". But it is on there, Sarah. And $2.50 isn't a whole lot of money but it's a mistake so just fix it. She rolled her eyes and has the nerve to say, "well it probably means water or a milk, but if you really need me to take it off I'll ask my manager to take it off your bill." So I'm waiting for her to come back, another ten minutes while my husband and kids had long left for the car after this G-d forsaken meal, and she has the nerve to come back and ask me if I'm ready to pay? I'm like, "I was waiting for you to ask your manager and bring me the bill." And she says, so you want me to print you a new bill? Honestly, I couldn't take it anymore. I had to tell her she was acting very rudely. I did tell the manager about our experience. He was apologetic and offered to make it up to us the next time we came back, but I don't think we will be back. We don't get a chance to go out often, but once in a while, it's a treat for our family to enjoy a nice dinner. I wish it had been better, I was really hoping to like it. read more

This was my first time at Holtz. After driving by the restaurant for a couple of years since it's been open I finally decided to drop in and try it out. Our server Victoria (that was the name listed on the receipt) was very attentive and made sure to check on us from time to time making sure our water was filled on an extremely busy Friday evening. We didnt wait long for her to take our order and she brought us the check quickly. She was great. My husband and I shared Fried Calamari with a perfectly light crisp batter, a nice seasoned flavor with marinara on the side. I ordered the Squash Salad with Beef Tenderloin for my entree. I was extremely impressed this Salad. It was a sweet and Salty fresh plate of veggies and pears and it felt more like a treat than a salad. I will be coming back again just for this and I wasnt even sad that I didnt order something like a Burger or Pizza which is what I usually go for. The ambiance was perfect and it's quite spacious. Only downfall is it's kind of loud from people trying to talk over the music so you have to scream while talking, other than that what Great place to have nearby in this little community of Park Ridge. read more

Update: I spoke too soon! We liked the dinner so much that we went back and brunch and it was terrible! Our waitress was terrible. If this was my first time going there I would never go back. I so torn on this place. Originally I gave them 5 stars (really it should have been 4 but I was being generous), now this meal was 1 star so I'm being generous with an average of 3. Here's why brunch sucked so much!! First our waitress took 15 minutes to greet us and gave no apology, instead a smug smile. Anytime we asked a question, she answered it with this tone that made us feel inferior to her. I am gluten free and she looked at me like I had 3 eye balls! What a difference for dinner, the waitress was over the top friendly and explained everything that was gluten free. For brunch the waitress did not even know what gluten free meant. Not a good sign for someone who gets sick easily!! So I ordered the salmon BLT. I got a side salad with it which was bad too. I hate when salads use ice berg lettuce, it's so cheap! Use spring mix. Now the actual sandwich; They brought it on wheat bread, good thing I asked if it was gluten free! Come on!! Then they made it with the gluten free but but smothered it with bad mayo. I asked for no mayo. Plus the salmon was under cooked. It was not good!! My family all had the crab eggs Benedict and it was pretty bad. It came with nothing (what a jip) and the eggs were not cooked well. Overall the food was bad, the service was terrible and the prices were too high. Pass!! I highly suggest not going here for brunch and ONLY for dinner. Dinner experience (entirely different) Went there the other night with my wife and another couple. First let me start by saying I'm gluten free and they were very accommodating! They have tons of options, every pizza except the meatballs, every sandwich and tons of salads for options. To start the 4 of us shared the spinach and squash salad. Both were super good! I'd go back just for the salads. For the main course I had the fish tacos and the everyone else had he pizza. The pizza looked good but obviously I did not have it. The tacos were awesome! Good fresh tasting seafood, with pickled onions (my favorite topping) and a nice crunch. The tacos were a special but if they had them on the menu everyday I would absolutely go back for those. The service was great, the prices were reasonable, the environment was fun (a little loud), but I would absolutely go back and often. read more

Great Pizza. Make a Reservation on Weekends We've had pizza here a couple times. I personally think the pizza with goat cheese, carmelized onion, and red grapes is the best. We've also had the meatball with ricotta pizza which is also very good. The place can get very busy, so make a reservation. Also in the early evening hours expect lots of kids. The beer selection is very good and the wine selection is decent. Cost per person for pizza and a beverage is about $20. read more

I have now tried this place on 3 separate occasion. Once for brunch and 2 times for lunch. Each time has progressively gotten worse. The first lunch we had ordered calamari for an app, when the waiter brought out our order he had 2 orders of fried calamari in his hands..we must have gotten the bad one..no rings all tenacles and half the size of the other order. The rest of the meal was ok..nothing great but solid. The second time there we ordered soup which showed up at the end of our meal for some reason. The food once again was ok, but nothing to right home about. The third time was today for brunch. We got one of the community tables by the shuffleboard table. The chairs are used with no backs, and since my wife is 9 months pregnant we asked if we could over to one of the open tables with a chair with a back (which there was 4 or 5 open tables). Apparently they were all reserved for a large party? Here's an idea..if there's a large party stick them at one of you large community tables. None of the "large group" had toddlers so there was no excuse to site them at the low tops.so we sit down at the bar stool and low and behold all the kids from the "reserved table" are running over to play shuffleboard..which is fine but if they would have just put them at our table it would have been much easier..now we order our food Chilliquilles, and the egg special with egg whites..well I guess egg whites stand for fried egg Sunnyside up here.. I let the waiter know of the error and they correct it..The potatoes were very under cooked and the Chilliquilles were not edible.. it was as if they deep fried everything in oil and was very bad. So 3 separate times and every time something went wrong. I'm sure the owner and his friends can have fun at this bar/family diner ( not sure what concept they are going for)? But not me..no consistency, poor quality service, poor quality food, and beat up seats. Had so much hope for a craft beer place in the neighborhood and by the train...but 3 strikes I'm out.. read more
