Traveling back into the Morristown area and here was the must have to go place for lunch. We lucked out it was Margarita Monday. Lunch choices made easy first a Signature Margarita and a Yuengling followed by Fish Tacos. We were too full to have dessert unless you count the chips and homemade salsa! This was amazing first off it is a very lovely restaurant, and very neat and clean, noticed when a table emptied besides wiping table the chairs were done to as well as a quick sweep of floor. My husband and I come here a lot for lunch but today we brought our granddaughter for dinner. She's visiting from GA so she's never eaten here. My husband and I split the Margarita Chicken with a baked sweet potato and fried okra. Everything was delicious!! Our granddaughter ordered the Chicken Parmesan Penne. She loved it!! While on a road trip, we met some relatives we hadn't seen in a few years at Holston's for dinner. This is a nice restaurant with a beautiful bar and great choices for dinner. The place is nicely decorated and has a nice vibe. We started with drinks and appetizers of spinach artichoke dip and fried green tomatoes. When in the South, you have to try fried green tomatoes, right? Our entrees ranged from burgers, creamy shrimp pesto, and the strawberry chicken salad. Everyone enjoyed their dinner, I thought my mushroom burger was very good! Service was friendly and prices reasonable. The restaurant is very convenient if you're traveling on I-81. I went here for dinner with my grandparents at around 6:30 pm on a Monday. We were seated and greeted by Lindsay. She then took our food and drink order. I got the Chicken Parmesan Penne and my grandparents shared the Margarita Chicken with the Baked Sweet Potato and Fried Okra. I got the half sweet and half unsweet tea and my grandparents both got unsweetened tea. My food was delicious! The sauce on the pasta tastes like Alfredo with a hint of tomato. The chicken was lovely. It tasted like it was beer-battered and it had a slight spice taste to it. The tea was amazing, although it could have just a bit more sweetness. My grandparents seemed to like their meal. They enjoyed the diced tomatoes and onions with mozzarella cheese on top of the grilled chicken. They said the sweet potato was perfectly cooked and the okra was better than that served at Cracker Barrel, which they love. Lindsay was nice and checked on us frequently. The service was great! The ambiance was very pleasant! It looks like a fancy steakhouse. Overall, this was a phenomenal restaurant and I would definitely recommend trying it! read more

I came here for lunch with my parents today and wow, I was impressed! I appreciated all of the gluten free options, including a really good gluten free bun. I had the Philly Cheesesteak with the gf bun. It was great! My only constructive comment is about the fries. 1. I'd love a bigger fry - these are the super thin shoestring fries. 2. It would be amazing to have a dedicated fryer for the potatoes so they could be 100% gf too My parents' food was great as well (they both opted for the chopped steak). My wife and I went to this restaurant for our anniversary after people I work with said Holston in general is a good place to eat.Well not this one. my wife got the spare ribs that could have been better but wasn't bad. The real problem was my 10oz sirloin steak. The first steak was hard gritty and just not a good cut of steak. I told the waitress and she had it made again. The second steak was not much better. the steak was a cheap cut a meat they charge $22 for. Not even sirloin! Our first experience was not good and the manager didn't care enough to come and check on us like most other restaurants do when they mess up. Highly unlikely we would ever go back. read more

This was the worst ever. We arrived early to beat the ending rush, about 530. Got seated ordered our drinks. Thee waitress was friendly enough but following the valentines weekend we had a reduced menu. But we ordered and was assured they had our order. An hour later the restaurant is now packed and our food still has not arrived. The waitress comes out and tells us some items are no longer available. Another twenty minutes we ge our modified order. The food appeared to have been kept under a hot lamp and one ribeye was way over cooked. Sent back and promised the manager would come out. Never saw him. Other guests during this time were seated after us, got their food and paid and left before our order ever showed. I hated paying for my food, not fair to me to be required to pay for such a disappointing evening. Twice I have brought family here because I used to enjoy the place. Every time I decide to come to this restaurant, I ask my wife, "Do you want to go to Holston's and eat outside?" Why? Because they have a nice outside area and we like to eat outside. That said, 10 times out of 10 times we come to the hostess and say, "we'd like to eat outside" the hostess ALWAYS makes it some kind of big deal. She'll always say, I don't know that we have any servers that can serve outside tonight. What???!!! So, "outside" is 15 steps from the closest inside booth. What's the issue??? It makes me feel like a nuisance because I want to eat in the outside area that THEY built and is on the front of the building. Tonight the hostess gave us attitude and also gave another couple, who wanted to eat outside, a hard time. She even HUFFED out loud when she walked by us. Wow. The food here is above average. We had great service but that's about it. My husband and I went for the first time this past Saturday night for a date night, and it was super empty which is very unusual for the area. We were seated immediately and drinks were served quickly. The service was very quick and attentive. I ordered a salad, a ribeye, and a loaded potato. We had an appetizer of fried pickles. The pickles were so thin it was mostly breading, my salad was not good at all it was very bland and I wasn't able to eat it, the ribeye was the best part it was really flavorful but it was overcooked and very thin. My wife and I never have eaten at Holston's but had seen reviews that indicated that it is one of the nicer Morristown restaurants so we decided to go there for Valentines Day. I called a week in advance to get a reservation but was told that seating would be provided on a first come first serve basis. We decided that our best chance of getting seated quickly would be to eat lunch there. The parking lot is large with a bank of handicap spaces by the front door. The brick building is very inviting and warm. Unfortunately, the day was anything but warm and the winter wind was blowing that day. Why would this matter... let me explain. We were seated by a young man at a table about 25 feet from the front door. He was inexperienced and did not offer a say in seating i.e., booth or table or location of seating. I am not picky but many folks want to choose their seating preference. Our seats were worn but other than that, the atmosphere was cozy and intimate. Unfortunately, every time the doors opened to the restaurants; a blast of cold air came racing in. A double door entry would have eliminated that. Fortunately, the heating system was up to the task and eliminated the chill until the next patron entered. The restaurant was busy and we had excellent service and from my observations, the other tables were also well served. Staffing was abundant. Our food and drinks were great. Everything was fresh. My wife had fajitas and I had the pork chop. My wife said the fajita was great and the salsa and picada were hand made. As a side bonus, she thought her margarita was one of the best that she ever had. My porkchop was large and thick, dripping with juices and flavor. We both had more food than appetite and I saw many patrons leaving with take home boxes, so we were not alone in this regard. The prices are reasonable and given the high quality of service and food, I highly recommend Holston's. Just be sure to stay far away from the front doors on blustery Winter days. read more

Ambiance was very nice. Service was good. Food - Mine was wonderful, I had the chicken margarita. Cooked perfectly, good flavor. Portion was kinda small but for 10 or 12 bucks, I thought it was fair. Hers was not as good, she had the open faced roast beef. I was also disappointed with this dish in comparison to mine, I felt bad for her honestly. Roast beef was old, mashed potatoes and gravy were cheap. I give the Texas toast the nod though. This dish has potential, good idea just needs better execution. What a disappoint this was. In the past, the food was fabulous and enough that we'd drive 48 minutes to stimulate the place. This will be the last time sure ruined my Birthday. We get a new waitress not well trained and even to the point of telling us the well drinks bar tender is in training so the drinks might not be right. We order our food which was several things given there was four of us. The steaks were terrible! dry and grisly. The baked potatoes were cold when they came plated to us. We told the waitress they were cold so she grabs a plate and has us set the spuds on the plate and then leaves with them to only bring us back the same spuds slightly warmer. But to top it off, another waitress comes over to tell us our waitress was shy so she'd like to offer to sing happy Birthday but I'd need to order a dessert so we looked at her like what? and then she got the look and said, oh, I will sing to ya even if ya don't order a dessert. Don't get the bang bang shrimp for an appetizer because there wasn't anything bang bang about pop corn shrimp. My soup never came until my main course and I then had to remind them. GET THE FRIED PICKLES!!! They were salty, flavorful and delicious. You can't go wrong with those. The pickles weren't exceptional, but the breading on the pickled was dynamic. Everyone at my table was obsessed. Overall, the quality of food was decent. My steak was really juicy and flavorful. The steamed broccoli was lame and the Cole slaw was less than average. I got some chicken wings on the side which were boring. The portions they give out are pretty weak. The "jumbo" chicken wings were anything but jumbo. I've definitely had wings at different restaurants which were bigger and juicier. I try to limit sugar, so the fact that they didn't have any good dry rubs was disappointing. I did NOT eat any of the Cole slaw yet in the picture. They seriously left that much out of the cup. My brother's macaroni looked like he had about 10 little elbows and that was it. They either need smaller bowls or bigger portions. Their small portions on sides make their bowls look half empty. The price wasn't bad. I paid $16 for my 10oz steak with two minuscule sides. The steak was juicy and definitely worth the price. It was everything else that came with it I found disappointing. My family liked it more than me. I'd reluctantly go back, but I wouldn't be excited about it. I'm sure there's better steak joints in Hamblin or Jefferson County. I'll add, the historic Morristown decor was pretty cool. Service very slow, plates were extremely messy when served, place was so cold we were shaking. Fried okra was mostly greasy breading. Cod was somewhat chewy. Used to be one of our top places to dine. Don't go to Holston's Kitchen Morristown. I couldn't believe it, they make you buy the chocolate cake or they won't sing happy birthday to the birthday girl. I'm not a cheapskate but the bill was already $178 for 4 of us. We made it perfectly clear it was my wife's birthday so she told us how great their birthday singer was and also how great the chocolate cake is and that was the last we heard about it because our daughter had birthday cake waiting at home. In all the years we've been going there we have never been disappointed until that evening. Oh and by the way, the food was terrible, the potatoes were cold and we had to send them back to be thrown in the microwave and the steaks weren't much better, and they had admittedly a new bar tender to try out on us, needless to say the drinks sucked, but I was very hungry so I just dug in and overlooked it. They must have changed owners because there was nothing about the meal that was acceptable, but I wasn't going to ruin my wife's birthday party by walking out. Never had a bad meal here. On thanksgiving my husband and I went looking for a open restaurant. Upon driving by we seen multiple cars in parking lot. I sent husband in for a carry out order.
