First time here. Typical Local country restaurant. Our party got the catfish platter, cheeseburger and a chicken salad. All very good. Service was good although they were out of Mac & Cheese and Hushpuppies and it was still early for lunch. I got the cornbread instead and was slightly disappointed because I like it sweet. We've lived in the area for more than a year and never tried it till this week. What the heck were we thinking? We've been missing out hardcore! Phoenix, our waitress was super friendly and the food was beyond yummy. The prices were out of this world too. My husband and I have a new favorite place to get country fried steak. My husband and I stopped here for an awesome breakfast that I reviewed previously. Today we stopped for lunch and what a treat!! We split the Downhome Cajun Catfish. It came grilled perfectly with the exact amount of spice. The grilled onions, peppers and tomatoes were a bonus! We chose turnips and coleslaw as our two sides and hush puppies for the bread choice. We were so happy with our choices. The tea is fresh brewed and also great. (I can only speak to the unsweetened). Marsha was our server and she reminded us of a favorite aunt. She was very personable and efficient. Everything and everyone was very nice and we will definitely be back! read more

Want some southern hospitality? It's all here! Our server, Hannah, was as sweet as she could be! All of the staff talked to everyone, and the service was top notch! Diner-style food. Sorry, no pics! Chicken breast was very flavorful and tender. Fried okra was greaseless, and as crisp as it could be-best I've ever had. Green beans were mostly little uneatable pieces-only thing I didn't like. Atmosphere is great-a lot of seating and has a warm, inviting charm to it. Loved the people as much as the food! read more

This is a down-home restaurant, friendly service, fun banter, and nice fresh portions. Priced accordingly.

We drove a long way to have their biscuits for breakfast, however when we arrived the biscuits were sold out and breakfast was over. We all regrouped and our table of 7 had a wonderful southern lunch that did not disappoint. The table had the country fried steak and gravy, hamburger steak, catfish and all the fixins. The hush puppies were great as was the cornbread. The pinto beans were made from scratch and they were delicious. The coleslaw was sweet and the potatoes were creamy. Everyone had a great experience with their mean and topped it off with large pieces of strawberry cake which made the kids all very happy. Do yourself a favor and stop in and grab a bite, you won't be disappointed! read more

We stop at Down Home for breakfast or late lunch at least once per week. Emma is our favo waitress, so sweet and charming! Food is always fresh, arrives quickly, and prices are low. Staff is always friendly with southern hospitality and great service, They usually have several different fresh baked cakes on the counter, so save room for dessert! this should be a score of ZERO. If you are a local or just passing through you might want to pass this place and go to a Fast food down the street. Came in " sit anywhere" so I was seen sat near the Cash register again two waitress in the front. Found another couple was ahead of me and they had not even been sat at a table. Waited about ten YES 10 minutes with no Menu delivered to the table . This is just poor customer service. I will never darken the door of this so called restaurant again. Learn how to drop off a menu, come back smile and take the order and deliver it. Is that two hard to accomplish. read more

This was the best $5.99 cheeseburger I have ever had. The tater tots were crisp on the outside and flaky on the inside. Amanda and the rest of the staff were fun, energetic, and eager to please. Terrible service!!! I am a member of the LGBT community, It was a very unwelcome atmosphere. I was getting takeout when I heard something said about me. I won't repeat it, but I definitely felt disrespected. I said something to the management they were very rude and ran me out of the restaurant. I have tried this place before and my past experiences told me not to stop but I was hungry. seated myself got my drink order in under four minutes tried to place my order but was repeatedly told they were out of it. No beef tips. no salads no tater tots, no onion rings. I ended up ordering the grilled cat fish, wanted cocktail sauce but out of it too. Was told that employee that placed supply orders was on vacation so no truck for deliveries this week. sound like Management needs to rethink their plan of operations. What a joke. Very busy because were there during the Grainger County Tomato Festival. I ordered the grilled chicken plate with brown beans and pickled beets. After a long wait, our food arrived luke warm. Beans looked like soup and not a pleasant flavor. Chicken was tough and grissly, Beets were ok, exchanged the beans for pickled eggs. They were over cooked and super dry yolks. Terrible food. When we paid our tab the cashier ask if everything was good. We said no and cold food. No adjustment offered. We are in no hurry to go back or recommend. read more

I love this place. The atmosphere is homey and the waitresses will make you feel welcome. I've ate here about 4 or 5 times, mostly during lunch hours. I really want to get up early one morning and go try their breakfast. They have daily lunch specials that are usually $6.99. My favorite one that I've had is the fried chicken. It came with biscuit and gravy and another side. It was mouth watering good. The pic that I posted was from a couple of weeks ago. It's the bone in pork chop with taters and gravy, roll, and fried okra. It was good. I really wish I had gotten the Cajun seasoning on the pork chop. The portions are good sized and you will be full. I think they also have all you can eat fish on Fridays or Saturdays. Now don't hold me to that. Again, a great place with great prices and a great atmosphere. read more

When my husband and I first moved to the area, we had heard great things about this place from my coworkers. We gave it a try, and this mom and pop diner did not disappoint. My Republican Women's meetings are held here monthly, so I eat here at least once a month. When I go, my husband insists that I bring him food home. The service is always friendly. Great place to stop in for breakfast. I actually take the long route from Kingsport to Knoxville just to stop in for an Omelet and pancake. The pancake is iron skillet size so it takes a little while to cook. But they are able to keep it light, fluffy and crispy on the outside. Don't stop in if you are troubled by being called "Hun", "Darlin'" or "Baby". Looked to me like the place is a hub for the community. Great small town atmosphere. read more

I was tired of stopping at the mediocre Hardee's just down the way from this restaurant on my way to Knoxville. I had the time, so I gave it a try. The food was good with generous portions at a reasonable price. The sausage was good and the gravy was a pleasant surprise. Instead of the traditional white gravy, theirs was brown and had a meatier flavor. The pancakes were enormous and quite food as well. The service was good and the people were polite. First time going there we had good food and crappy service. Second time we went we got served cold food but we had better service. Just left there tonight had Luke warm food and crappy service definitely will not go back again. This is the only place we go and our bill is always around $30 just for 2 of us and we don't get anything fancy just plain simple plates of food. read more
