Every second Sunday morning of the month we meet for coffee. Holsem was new to me, my friend verified it was good before suggesting here. I arrived a few minutes before 9:00am, found street parking a few blocks up. It was almost at full capacity when my friend arrived. Lots of drink selections as well as pastries to nibble on. I decided on the Matcha Mint Latte with oat milk and he ordered the Maui Banana Iced Latte. I grabbed us a table on the front patio. He wait for drinks. Love that the drinks came in glassware. Came back to try their new Maui banana bread latte! Arrived around 11:15 am on a Sunday and there was no line to order with some seating still available. A line was constantly forming and drinks came out in about 10 mins. -Maui banana bread latte (3/5): I do like banana flavor but the banana taste was very strong and prominent and slightly off to me, tasted toasty too which isn't my preference -Vanilla Vienna cream latte (4/5): pretty good, creamy and great vanilla flavor! I had an oddly negative experience the other morning at Holsem Coffee. I stopped in when it was empty (aside from one guest outside who had already been served) and waited at the register for a few minutes without any acknowledgment. During that time, the two employees behind the bar were having a conversation with repeated profanity, which felt a bit off-putting as a customer walking in. After I said "good morning," I was briefly acknowledged but not helped, so I politely finally asked if I could order a hot coffee to go. One of the baristas responded somewhat defensively, mentioning she was fixing another order and would have come back, which I understand--but the overall interaction still felt a bit dismissive. I also asked about purchasing a gift card and was told "we don't have any, no" from the back, which came across as abrupt. I'm a regular and genuinely like Holsem, so this felt pretty out of character compared to my usual experiences. Delicious coffee and amazing pastries! Tried the almond croissant and fig jam and Brie danish which were both absolutely delicious. The fig jam and Brie was a really fun different type pastry. For coffee had their Nordic Blueberry maple iced latte and it was really tasty. Lots of great menu options too so something for everyone. Needed to kill some time while in the area on a Saturday, early afternoon. Was craving some caffeine and a snack, so I went in and ordered their Maui Banana Bread iced latte and an Everything Bagel. The cashier told me that they ran out of the paper covers to make their food, so couldn't serve me food - bummer. I think I've found my favorite coffee shop that I'll be returning to each time I'm in San Diego. I love subtle hints of orange in my lattes so I was super excited to try the orange vanilla latte. It tastes just like the orange blossom latte from a cafe in Philly, KFar, which I LOVE. I found the orange vanilla flavor subtle (my friend said it's a little more "orangey" than one she likes at Bica). I also tried the Maui banana and again, banana flavor is subtle, not an in your face artificial banana flavoring. I didn't have enough time to really chill out but there's plenty of seating and wasn't crowded or loud the few times I went this past week. Holsem: true to its name with a character filled coffee shop. I ordered the cortado and the wood's latte to taste a straight stick beverage and their more unique options. The wood's was interesting with the maple syrup and nutmeg paired with sea salt. I would've liked a little more sea salt. The cortado was solid (naturally, since it came from a La Marzocco). I would definitely go back to try another of signature lattes and a macchiato (the traditional kind) in person. This is now on my list of go to coffee shops when I'm in San Diego. Their iced lattes are delicious and don't cause me to experience a crash like other places. The drinks are smooth. I had to stop myself from just chugging it down. I hear their cookies are amazing too but we went later in the day so cookies were all gone. We will try to get there earlier next time. The shop itself is nice and open and a large storefront window to let tons of sunlight in. There's tons of seating and spots to plug in your laptops or chargers. I love love love the banana bread cold crew but feel the opposite about the 8.25 price for a large and the fact that they don't have a rewards program. The new outdoor seating of Holsem really brightens the place and feels inviting. I love the natural wood table plus the olive green seats. When you walk into Holsem, it feels bright and modern. They have multiple seating choices and usually I don't have any problems asking someone from the bigger tables if I could sit with them. The menu is displayed on the right side of the wall as you walk in. It's more minimal than it used to be. Even my favorite, the strawberry malt latte, wasn't on there the day I went. But worry not, it will be coming back! They also have cold brew, specialty lattes, coffee, pastries, cookies, sandwiches, and tea! The worker greeted us upon walking in and was really nice. I ordered the Iced Orange Vanilla Latte (for here) with Whole Milk. Unlike at other coffee shops, the orange flavor in the latte didn't remind me of drinking orange extract. The flavor was subtle but went well with the latte. I would recommend this drink. I love the ice cubes they had, they were very clear and rectangular-- keeping the drink nice and cold. My friend ordered an espresso, for here. And a hot americano. The espresso didn't come with seltzer, but the ceramic cup it came in was beautiful. It had a nice grip and rim width. The espresso had a lush layer of crema on it. It smelled amazing, I could only imagine how it tasted. I'm usually not the one to order espresso, but seeing that-- made me want one for myself. After finishing the drinks we brought them inside and placed them in a black bin below the counter. Since I've been here before I knew where it was, but for my friend they didn't realize the bin was even there because it kind of blended into the backing of the counter. Overall, Holsem Coffee, is a wonderful place to come to in North Park. The parking spots are usually 1 hour limit in front. I love the specialty coffee choices and even the banana bread cold brew! They have great sandwiches if you're hungry and I'd even recommend snagging a cookie if they have them available. Swing by and try Holsem! read more

Bad customer service! The barista was unpleasant when I received my incorrect order. I order an iced mocha with cold foam but instead got an iced mocha with no cold foam. I notified the barista, who responded that I did not ask for cold foam. I told her that she had asked me when placing my order and she denied it. Every coffee place in north park is always full. But it could just be because of the vibes, not necessarily that the coffee is good. Well, let me tell you, at Holsem, it's both! Very cute layout and vibes whether you're on the patio or on the inside. It's very clean, but it is loud! (At least it was on a Saturday morning when I went). The staff is very nice and knowledgeable and can provide excellent recommendations. I opted for the strawberry oat latte. The strawberry is faint, but juuuuust enough to not be overpowering. Menu keeps changing.. We usually find a favorite item, and then it goes away. Right now as the menu stands, there isn't anything we like about it (not really into the ice cream stuff). Staff is nice and it's always a good vibe. Such an amazing place for studying!!! Parking can be a bit challenging especially on weekends, there's some street parking around the area but mostly for 2 hours max. The service here is so great! Front worker was so sweet. I ordered the banana bread latte which was delicious and they have such unique specialty drinks! For studying, it's amazing!! They have natural lighting with huge windows allowing the sun in. I hate studying at places with harsh fluorescent light but the lighting here makes it feel very cozy even though it has a more modern feel. There's plenty of seating with plenty of outlets. Me and my wife made a trip to Holsem Coffee on a day out to San Diego on this previous Sunday. Our experience as far as customer service was good, the girl at the front counter seemed nice and complimented my wife. The ambience is definitely really nice, clean, and modern and would be somewhere you'd want to do homework in, or even take your friends out to sit at. I will however say that the drinks are okay at best. Me and my wife got different lattes, I got the orange french vanilla latte and my wife got the banana bread latte. Mine was definitely the better of the two, the orange oil being spritzed on top was a nice touch but for me I would've liked a tad bit more sweetness. My wife's on the other hand tasted nothing like banana bread, it tasted like an unsweetened banana milk with cinnamon on top. It seems like the potential is there but it's just not being executed properly. read more

I was excited to try this place after seeing so many good reviews but it really fell short my expectations. I ordered the vanilla rose latte which wasn't bad but had a strange bitter aftertaste - I think it may be from the rose dusting they put on top. The service also was not good. I know it was very busy but my friend ordered a toasted croissant that they forgot to give to her until she had reminded them twice. She also asked for her mocha to only be 25% sweet but they gave it to her full sweetness and told us it was the less sweet version.
