BEWARE OF THIS BUSINESS ! I had to rate 1 star in order to post this review!!!
Our Whirlpool oven-microwave combo developed a straightforward fault: the microwave stopped heating, and the turntable quit spinning after about 15 seconds, even though the unit sounded like it was operating normally.
We hired Holmes Appliance Service after finding the business on the Nextdoor app. We also noticed that Mr. Holmes had several mutual friends on Facebook and stated that he attended Dothan First Church, while he was attempting to make small talk and fix the microwave . Unfortunately, our experience was a masterclass in how not to diagnose or repair an appliance.
After making us wait several days for an appointment, Mr. Holmes "diagnosed" the problem without removing a single panel or performing any meaningful testing. Somehow, with only a quick assessment, he declared that an expensive part had failed, insisted he needed to order it, and demanded full payment upfront.
Then came the waiting. A month passed. Multiple phone calls were required just to get updates before he finally scheduled the repair.
When he arrived, the problems only got worse. He didn't even have the tools needed to perform the repair--I had to supply them myself. As the work continued, it became painfully obvious that he was in over his head.
After replacing the very expensive part we had prepaid for, absolutely nothing changed. The microwave still had the exact same problem. Instead of admitting his diagnosis was wrong, he simply claimed that another part would need to be ordered, meaning even more money and more waiting.
At that point, we started researching the actual part numbers and reading reviews/ complaints of Holmes Appliance Service on Yelp. (hind-sight.. should have researched prior ) What we found was alarming: numerous customers described experiences that closely matched ours. We also discovered that we had paid roughly nine times the market price for the replacement part (not even a Whirlpool part) that never fixed the problem in the first place.
We refused to continue paying for what felt like guesswork disguised as appliance repair. We filed a complaint, demanded a refund, and hired a competent, trustworthy technician who properly diagnosed and resolved the issue.
Based on our experience, Holmes Appliance Service appeared to rely on speculation rather than proper diagnostics, charged excessive markups, required large upfront payments, and left us paying for a repair that did not fix the problem. We would NEVER recommend this company ! read more
