This review is to give a shout-out to Ashley, the sales associate, for her superior customer service. When I arrived, I saw the line for order pickups on the 1st floor. Since the sale prices were still active, I decided to make some additional purchases. When it was my turn at the register, Ashley retrieved my online order from the back storage area. She verified my identity and completed the process. She also rang up the merch I chose while browsing the sales. Please note, there was a lot of customers, several registers were handling customer purchases. A man to the right of me came by to pickup an order for four items. Another sales associate couldn't find his order. Ashley said "it's in the storage area on the shelf to to right. Look on the bottom row, there is a note taped to his order." How in the world could she recall this specific order and know its exact location. Another customer to my left asked for a price check on two hats she was holding. Ashley to the rescue again! As she was looking up my account number, she used a hand-held device to scan the tag of the hats and tell the customer the price. She helped customers to the right and left of me while handling my transactions. I requested a gift receipt for some of the items and she quickly and efficiently placed those items in a separate bag with the receipts. I like shopping in person to choose or try on my purchases. I bought towels, pajamas, and sweaters. Occasionally, the online order works just as well and saves time. The quality of the goods and products at JC Penny's Department store is very good. I think the only time I've ever shopped here seriously were the very, very rare and random times where a friend's stepmother who I barely knew would be kind and generous enough to give me a Macy's gift card of all things. Or if I need a spritz of perfume and there's no Nordstrom at the mall. I do enjoy looking at the perfume, beauty, and holiday and home section of Macy's when I do walk through. They already have the Christmas stuff set up and they have some chocolate and sweets gift boxes ready for purchase in middle October (1 tiny section of Halloween stuff in the front), so it's nice to look through, but other than that, their clearance section is on the top floor, hidden away in a corner, with barely anything on the racks. There's allegedly an under $5 rack and everything on it except for an already stained white t-shirt was easily over $10 and nothing else was appealing at all. Slim pickings.

My wife was looking for a nickel, and I had a quarter in my pocket, so I offered it to the cashier thinking she could simply take the quarter and give us the difference back. Instead, the cashier gave us an attitude and said she didn't know how to make the change because she had already entered the amount into the register. What really bothered us was when she said she "couldn't waste her time on that because it wasn't fair to the other customers." We ARE customers. We waited in that same line too. Nobody was asking for special treatment. We were simply trying to complete our purchase. If the register wouldn't allow her to change what she had already entered, she could have explained that politely and professionally. Instead, we were made to feel like helping us complete our transaction was an inconvenience and a waste of her time. Ironically, the way the situation was handled ended up taking longer than simply resolving the change issue in the first place. This isn't about 20 cents. It's about customer service, professionalism, and how you speak to people who are spending their money in your store. There was no reason for a basic checkout transaction to turn into an uncomfortable experience because of an employee's attitude. For management's reference, our receipt shows Store #1557, Register 03, Transaction 8830, Associate #2605128, September 12, 2026 at 8:15 PM. I hope management actually reviews this transaction and addresses the situation with the associate involved. Customers shouldn't be told that helping them is a "waste of time," especially after they've already patiently waited their turn.
