If possible, I would give 6 stars! Lynn had us do the "test" to measure our proficiency on horses. We passed, and did our first hour guided, and second hour on our own in the National Forest. I couldn't have asked for a better experience....beautiful country, great horses, and welcoming folks... I hope to be back !

Had an awesome experience here! Our guide was with us for about 30 minutes and allowed us to roam the property for the remaining hour and a half. Would love to return someday!

This has to be the best horse back riding experience I've ever had. Ever. There was a schedule mishap when I got there, and both gals there completely adjusted to where me and my dad could still ride. They worked so hard to make sure we still were able to go out. It was drizzling and still the best day on my vacation so far. The owners daughter and our rancher were the kindest people. The horses are so well taken care of and to see the horses being the number one priority is relieving. We will be back and this time for a two hour ride. I wish I lived in the area, I would be the first to put in an application! Thank for for this we had a BLAST

Lynn and his wife run a first class operation! Their horses are in excellent condition and they take the time to fit you to the horse based on their temperament and your riding skill.... he is so patient and starts you in the ring to get acclimated to one another. The ride is anything but typical on their 100+ acre property as he encourages you to steer your stead around the natural outcroppings of rocks, trees, water, boulders and ondulations in the hilly terrain. I would have loved to spend the whole day there but it is getting cold and would have needed some beans in a tin can to keep me warm!

Went for a ride with a group of three last week. We were all relatively inexperienced, but Kristin made us feel at ease with the horses we were paired with. She was extremely patient and thorough with adjusting the saddles and making sure we knew the basics before going on the ride. The scenery is absolutely picturesque and Kristen is super friendly and exudes passion for her horses, which are well taken care of. However, I was my stupid self trying to document the entire experience and lost my phone! We spent the rest of the ride looking for it, but had no luck. She even offered us her ATVs to search for the phone, which we tried and still could not find it. I had accepted that it was gone forever, but received a call an hour later that Kristen had found the phone after making it her mission on the next tour! Great place with well kept horses and beautiful property close to Custer, but it is Kristin's energy and dedication that makes this place exceptional. Will definitely return and try not to lose my phone again!!

Lynn would tell us anecdotes about the features of the land and area, but it was all just relaxing and fun.

While on our trip to the Black Hills of SD we had a long list of things we wanted to do. One was a…read morehorse back ride. We had seen a few places along our travels and a lot listed in the tourist guide. We chose Country Charm Cabins and Corrals based on the advice of John and Ann (proprietors at The Shady Rest Motel). This was a great decision. Owen and Lois (I hope I am remembering their names correctly) are awesome. They have owned this location for 12 years. Lois is a riding instructor. Upon calling and making reservations I was asked about our skill level and told exactly what to wear and what to bring. The ride time is 2 hours. Riders ride their own horses. My son who is 6 was on his own horse with a lead. We are inexperienced riders so we were given instruction on how to handle our horses. Each rider is given a bag to take with them for water and a camera. Helmets are required for children. My husband and I wore one as well. The trail takes riders on a lovely tour of some flat grassy areas and some hilly areas. Lois is fantastic about explaining plants, trees, history, etc. along the way as well as explaining the correct way to handle the horses. The only thing I wish I would have known is they do not accept credit cards. We had some cash on us but not enough for the 3 of us. We were willing to give them all the cash we had and stop by with the rest the next day. They offered to let us mail it. We loved this ride. My son loved when we were able to trot.

We stayed in the site 25 which is technically a tent only/walk in site, but your car is parked right at the edge of your campsite so everything was still in close proximity. We had a staff member come up to us to check us in when we are setting up camp and she was so lovely. She told us everything we need to know about the campsite, where the drinking water was, what animals will be roaming the park, the pet policy, etc. The campsites are very shady which was nice! The general store has your typical souvenir apparel and gifts but also groceries, essentials, and beer! We enjoyed our stay but probably wouldn't pick this campground again because we personally like more secluded campsites.

The cabins are pretty spacious, sleep 5 and have a nice outdoor patio, table and fire pit. Every cabin has parking for 1 car and bathrooms are shared nearby. The cabins were clean and basic, bring your own sleeping bag, pillow and whatever else you need. The only downside is the tiny bathroom, we had all cabins full and a good 120-130 people in the loop. But there is only 1 bathhouse with 3 toilet/sink/shower combo. It's not a regular bathhouse with 2 stalls shower, 3-4 toilets and 3 sinks. It was 3 actual bathrooms (they call it family bathrooms) that 100+ people have to share and get ready in the morning and nighttime. So once bathroom 1 had a family of 4 showering, that was blocked for half an hour. Got one more in the shower, you are down to a single toilet until someone decides to vacate the other bathrooms. Not ideal to say the least, you just have to get in line before you really really have to go. Lol The main lodge was across the street with good food options and there was also a small store and gas station on the campground side.
