Then spent time mapping out our day and places that we wanted to go to. Then handed us a bag with a beacon, ear plugs and phone charger adapter. We had a very eventful day with lots of fun stuff but when asked what everyone's favorite part of the day was it was this! You actually can drive these on the road like cars (and you have to go get to the trails). You go up into the trails with a gps tracker that leaves a breadcrumb trail of your trip. There are no google directions to tell you to turn right or left you just drive and explore. To be honest that part got a little confusing at some points and we found ourselves turning around a lot but it was definitely a very fun activity that I highly recommend. There is a lookout at bear mountain lookout with a picnic table that you can sit and eat lunch and a walking trail as well. We regretted not bringing water and snacks on our four hour rental. Also, you get VERY dusty so I don't recommend having plans after, you will want to shower! read more

We had an excellent excursion on the 100s of miles of dirt roads. We rented for 4 hours, which was enough time for my family of 4 but we didn't get to see everything we wanted to get to. The trails are well maintained and when you rent from Adventure Rentals they provide you with a tablet so you a) know where you're going and b) know how to get back. I only wished I would've known at the time of rental that I know now... THE OPEN CABIN WILL MAKE YOU LOOK LIKE A COAL MINER OR AS MY DAUGHTER SAID... a chimney sweeper from Mary Poppins. So either bring a change of clothes or ask for the closed cabin. I also think it would've been helpful to have a screen wipe to use while everything... including the navigation tablet gets covered in layers of dust. read more

This is the THE place to rent an ATV in the Black Hills. I believe they have two locations (one is Custer and one is Hill City). Do not pass on this excursion! Although it was pricey, it was well worth it. After a lengthy safety and navigation walkthrough, we were handed a tablet with a map of the area north of Custer including trails for ATVs and other 4x4 vehicles and told to have fun and "get lost". Boy, did we get lost... You can reserve either 4 or 8 hours. 4 seemed like plenty but after the fact, we could have easily enjoyed 8 hours. We ended up almost running out of time before we got off of the trails and headed back on the highway. Without exaggerating, I can say this was one of the most fun things that all of us had ever done. PRO TIP: Bring your own goggles and a bandana to protect your mouth. It was VERY dusty when we went and I would have like to not get so much dust in my face (look at the pictures). Also bring your own water. It was very hot inside the ATV and we all felt dehydrated afterwards. Do yourself a favor and book this excursion! I hope to do this again, even if it is not is South Dakota. Adventure Rentals helped make my 40th birthday trip to the Hills a special one. Having ridden dirt bikes, street bikes, ATV's, and snowmobiles for a good portion of my life, driving a Slingshot was one of the things on my "bucket list." I was going to do a 4-hr rental just to get "it" out of my system, but for various reasons I decided on a 24-hr rental, and it was DEFINITELY the right choice! I wish I could have kept it longer.... We rented a black 5-speed from Custer, immediately took it down through the state park and up Iron Mountain Rd and into Keystone. During the drive, we had a minor mechanical issue (NOT a safety issue though) and stopped in Keystone to text the number they gave me at registration. I had a "I'm headed your way" response within minutes. The gentleman who came out within 15 or so minutes was extremely nice and helpful. He drove the blue/orange one out from the Hill City location, met us where we had stopped, and asked a few questions. He and I went on a short drive so I could have him experience what I was talking about, to which he could tell immediately, and to which he didn't ask any questions about our driving style, experience, etc... He just returned and swapped ours for the one he drove out. We went on with our trip up 385 to get to Spearfish Canyon, then over to Deadwood, then back down to Custer. The next morning I took my son out for a short trip up Sylvan Lake Rd/Hwy 87, then back to Custer. All in all I think we put about 260 miles on in 24 Hours. I liked that we could sign up multiple drivers/riders so my whole family got to get in on it a little bit. The Slingshot(s) were awesome. IMHO, the best way to enjoy the scenery in the hills. Wide open cockpit, no roof, no A-pillars, no bug-splattered windows, etc... just wide open panoramic views. And, as a passenger, you aren't staring into the back of the driver's helmet like on a standard trike or motorcycle. I wouldn't hesitate to rent from them again, and look forward to my next trip out so I can do just that! read more

Without a doubt, Alex and Holly are running a 5 star operation! We were looking for a UTV rental on our vacation, and with some research came across Adventure Rentals. It was clear that they operated a fleet of current and clean machines, and the best part is the tablets that come on each machine full of the area maps. As soon as we arrived, we felt right at home! Holly was quick to explain the different trail systems, and point out some interesting spots to shoot for. Alex gave a quick run down of operating the Polaris RZR, that would be easy enough even if you've never driven one! During our 8 hour rental, we were barely able to scratch the surface of the 600 miles of trails and 3,600 miles of roads spanning the 1.2 million acre Black Hills National Forest. We will certainly be back in the near future to see more of the incredible views. Don't think twice, there is no better way to experience the Black Hills! P.S. It's quite hard to believe that this place has no reviews! They are so on top of their game! My parents and I did an all day rental with a 4 seater Polaris Razor. Alex and Holly were very knowledgeable of the 4,000+ miles of trails in the area that were accessible. We were able to get in some incredible views of the greater Custer State Park area from the trails we went on. Great views from paved roads, dirt roads, and off roads! Even when our first initial machine broke down 3 miles out of town, Alex was very quick to run us out a replacement machine that worked great for the rest of the day! Like I said above, Alex and Holly are very on top of their game from trail knowledge, vehicle availability, and ability to set us up with a great day-long experience! My wife and I had a BLAST!! The people here are wonderful. Very professional but they treat you like family too. They send you out with a tablet with digital map and recommendations. And the equipment is first rate, clean and very well maintained. I have an ATV at home, I'm picky about equipment just ask my wife and our rental was as well kept as my own. The rides in the hills were fantastic, so much beautiful scenery, and trails from easy to difficult. Do the full day for sure! I wish I had rented one the day before to go through the park too. While we were in the area to see Mt Rushmore, we decided to check into a RZR/ATV trip after realizing how much public land was accessible to them. We booked with Adventure Rentals for a half day trip the night before - as they were the only agency with 4-seater availability. The process was super easy and the price was really fair. Our rental was to start at 2 pm but we got a text around 1130 AM that our machine was available earlier if we wished to start sooner. We arrived about 12:45. If I have anything negative to say, it was just that the instructional and safety portion of check-in was super fast. They talked really fast and we're hard to hear. We asked questions but never really got everything answered - so it was just trial and error (which was fine for me, but my wife is a bit less adventurous with that sort of thing). Nevertheless, we figured it all out pretty quick and had an awesome trip! Our kids loved it too, it was their favorite part of our entire trip to the area. Overall, I'd give them a 9/10 - and would recommend to anyone looking for an ATV rental/adventure company in or around Custer State Park. read more

Wow! So fun! We just had the most amazing Bachelorette Celebration outside of Hills City, SD! Adventure Rentals had awesome machines & down to earth fun loving staff! They made the whole experience easy & fun! I'm 7 months pregnant and was concerned with this 2 half day overnight adventure expedition we embarked on... but rented the XP 1000 due to the acclaimed smooth ride suspension and was pleasantly surprised at the smooth ride! Highly recommend! The staff let us decorate our rides before heading out & helped to accommodate all us ladies & our gear! Such awesome people work here! Recently we were visiting the area and off-roading with a group of friends. We all brought our own RZRs but several of us had issues starting out and I ended up needing a part for mine. Having traveled over 700 miles to do this I was a bit frustrated but called this outfit to see if they had the part I needed. I came in after their morning rush and the guys there spent time to help locate the needed part for me. Unfortunately that didn't fix my issue, but the fact that they were willing to help out someone that's not a customer showed great support for the sport and I was very impressed that they would go out of their way like this to help. From what I saw they have great equipment that is well cared for and they work to be as efficient as possible to get their customers checked in, informed and out enjoying the trails in the area. I would highly recommend this outfit if you want to see South Dakota like most don't get the opportunity to see! We had a blast in the area and rode nearly 400 miles that week. read more

I normally do not rent ATV's, I have my own. I was on a trip with students and they wanted to rent ATV's. The group had fun and everything was handled nicely. They are nice ATV's and I do believe they are treated well and maintained properly. I wish they had explained the trails a bit better, but they were rushed and quite busy. We booked here because they had a good selection of UTVs and new equipment also it was our first time visiting South Dakota and there reviews looked good. From the very start they explained everything very well and we're very well staffed. Checking in was a breeze and returning the machines were even quicker. We rented 2 of the 4 seater Generals which were very modern and great to drive they gave us a tablet but we never used it due to the onboard screen. I would highly recommend them and will definitely use them again in the future. We only did on road mostly for needles highway, Iron mountain Road & the wildlife loop road. We were visiting with an RV and can't take it in the same place's a Side by side can go. These machines are tough and durable for on road and Off.
