Lighting you can control, easy communication via walkie-talkie should you need it, snacks, water, and a hot towel after. The pod is set up to be as comfortable as can be with pillows and blanket. Holistic Hyperbarics is absolutely phenomenal! I had set my appointment up so that I could come by right after work. Unfortunately, I got held up and then stuck in the 880 traffic nightmare. Thankfully, I was able to make a call to Alex who assured me that all was well and that I would still be accommodated. It honestly lifted a massive weight off my shoulders. When I arrived, I was delighted to find myself in a really cozy office space which made me feel relaxed and at home. I was immediately greeted by Alex who welcomed me in without any feeling of being rushed, despite me being late. She had me fill out some paperwork and we were ready to go! I was lead into the back where I was given a run down of the machinery and some safety procedures in case of emergency. Alex handed me a walkie talkie and reassured me that she would only be a few feet away in case I needed anything. I hopped inside the chamber which was neatly set up and lit up with some cool mood lighting which I thought was pretty cool. Alex advised that my ears would pop a bit (which is normal) since the chamber would become lightly pressurized. She pointed to a little pouch on the wall with some gum to help. I laid back and closed my eyes as Alex started a count down. The started to feel the ear popping she had mentioned but wasn't too noticeable. I popped on my headphones and turned on some guided meditations. Whilst sitting there, I could def feel a tingle through my body as the chamber did it's work on me. The 90 mins flew by as I Alex reappeared from the front office and gently radioed in and woke me up. As I climbed out I could immediately feel a difference in the way I was moving. Alex lead me to the front where she asked me about my experiences and handed me a small snack of nuts and berries along with a glass of water. We sat for a min as I regained my bearings and prepared for departure. The next day I woke up and was impressed with how my muscle soreness from working out had almost completely vanished. I am a wedding photographer and 1.5 days before I was supposed to photograph a wedding, I pulled some muscles in my neck that left me in excruciating pain (only second to childbirth) and so stiff I couldn't turn my head without looking like a robot. I was in panic mode since I can't exactly take sick days for my job which also happens to be pretty physical, and so I decided to give the chamber a try and went in for my first dive. Came here to get into a hyperbaric chamber for the first time. Alex made sure to go over everything with me before entering the chamber. She is very knowledgeable and is more than willing to answer any questions you have. She stays with you as you take your dive to make sure everything goes smoothly. She was not joking about how many times you will have to pop your ears as you start to go down. Once at the optimal pressure there is no more popping of the ears and you're free to sleep, read, play on your phone, basically pretty much anything. You are always connected to her even if she is not in the room by radios. Now let me tell you about the chamber.. it is pretty big,comfortable, and it even have changing color lights! I was on my phone for probably ten mins and then decided I would nap. It was so easy to fall asleep because Alex provides you with a comfy blanket and pillow. At the end of the session you are given vitamins, refreshing water, and a hot towel for your face. I felt extremely refreshed. Unlike anything I've ever done for myself before. It's a spa day, a time to power down (and up!), and a medical treatment all rolled into one. I don't slow down for much, which is part of my problem. I have a few chronic illnesses and over exert myself constantly. Things heal in me very slowly, and I have been battling inflammation for years. I wanted to try something different. A little background: my mother had Scleroderma. Back in the 80's when Hyperbarics Oxygen had become available to the public for medical use, she started treatment for about 6 months.Her skin glowed. It took about two treatments to heal her ulcerated skin and another couple to soften it after years of hardening. It was a new immune system for her. I am in my mid-twenties and ever since I overdosed on sedatives 3 years ago, my life had never been the same. I had gotten off all substances shortly afterward, but the momentum I had in life was gone. When you overdose, oxygen flow cuts off to the brain. Most of the body can recover but I had severe emotional issues as well as poor attention span and memory because parts of my brain were supposedly dead and gone. I had to keep bizarre to-do lists but even then it felt like I was putting in 10 times as much work to hold down a career as my peers. I was also unsure of whether or not I would tell friends and family, it was getting to the point where it was hard to fake that there wasn't anything up. I was incredibly skeptical of hyperbaric treatments but I decided to go through with it because others with my specific issue of brain hypoxia had positive things to say. Worst case, I would have wasted my time. Best case I would get some gain. I did about 40 sessions under Alex's care and you can get the idea from the start that they are interested in the treatment itself and progress, not being judgemental or just trying to make money. About 2-3 months later, I cannot believe how much of a recovery I have made. Its life-changing to say the least. My memory, drive, attention, and overall function have returned to previous levels by at least 90%. Let me start by saying that I am an avid climber. Holistic Hyperbarics has not only dramatically improved my recovery, but it has also improved my focus, general energy, and sleep. Alex has created a completely restorative and peaceful experience. She's amazing! I have come to learn that in order to be happy, energized, and balanced, I need to train. A lot. I climb and train 4 hours a day, 5 days a week. Unfortunately, I have not been as on top of my recovery as I have been my training. I've suffered various stress injuries throughout my climbing career from tendinitis to torn rotator cuffs. I am pretty over getting injured and not being able to do what I love, so I've decided to improve my "pre-hab" and recovery practices. . Thats where Holistic Hyperbarics comes in. Before my first session I absolutely wrecked myself at the gym (2 hours of climbing followed by weighted pulls in a calisthenic circuit, free weights, and a brutal core circuit). I was already sore come afternoon. Upon getting out of the chamber, however, I felt relaxed and calm and that night I had the best sleep I had in months. The next day I went climbing outside. I usually never train at the gym the two days before going outside in order to preserve my fingers and strength, but I felt completely fresh, even after having had such an intense session the day before. My second session at Holistic Hyperbarics came with the realization that I could sleep in the chamber. I usually have a hard time napping in the middle of the day, even when I really need it, but I fell into such a deep sleep that Alex had to knock against the chamber to wake me up! The last couple days, when I've had consistent sessions in the chamber, I have felt vitalized and fully restored. I initially went to Holistic Hyperbarics to improve my recovery, which it absolutely has. Not only has it gotten rid of soreness quickly, but I feel more explosive and powerful the next day. Anyone undergoing fertility treatment from IVF to egg freezing needs to come here for at least one session, esp if they are having trouble getting the results they want or are in a lot of discomfort - period. I began the process of egg freezing in September and wish I had come to Holistic Hyperbarics then instead of toward the end of my procedure in October only because of the noticeable, immediate results I experienced. I live with fibromyalgia, a musculoskeletal condition with fatigue and pain sensitivity - needless to say, the daily injections and body changing I was going thru were taking a toll both physically & emotionally. I also had one ovary that was - well - not producing up to expectations. I was really scared that this expensive, invasive procedure was going to yield a low number of eggs, which at my age and financial level was heartbreaking to fathom. I read online that oxygen therapy can help boost egg development and although the science convinced me, the prices kept me at bay. I was already shelling out thousands and while I was prepared to incur the debt of the procedure itself, "add ons" felt out of reach. Finally, after floating the idea to my doctor & keeping in mind that several hundred dollars is way less than another full round of IVF-style egg freezing, I contacted HH. This is a fun review to write because my opinion of this place started out quite skeptical and really turned around for the better as I got to know them over the summer of 2019. BACKGROUND: I have chronic Lyme, Bartonella and Babesia infections, diagnosed in 2004, and eventually started the Buhner herbal protocol. I got very sick and was unemployed and bedridden for a good portion of that time, and barely remember it. After a couple of years of that and some improvements but not as much progress as I had hoped, I switched doctors and tried prescription antibiotics alone for a few years, with testing every 3-4 months and switching up the exact drugs a couple times a year. I got much better, tested negative for Bartonella and then Babesia multiple times, but then as I got to the cyst-busting stage of the Lyme treatment, all hell broke loose and it all came back very aggressively. It was at this backsliding low point I become terrified and knew I needed something more. So, I decided to do everything I could simultaneously: 1) prescription antibiotics 2) herbal antibiotics 3) chiropractic and soft tissue bodywork, AND 3) hyperbaric oxygen. I found Holistic Hyperbarics as the nearest center, since I did some research and figured I would need a lot of sessions, the proximity was important. Unfortunately it was right in the middle of their move, so there was some confusion and I showed up at the old location, not happy. But I called Alex and she paid for my Uber and made it right. I'm glad I stuck through that rocky start, because the HBOT started to bring benefits after just a few sessions. PERSONAL HBOT EXPERIENCE: I had had severe "spasticity" (unconscious muscle tension) along my left side for years, which affect my gait and ability to do many household chores with my hands, sometimes even typing. After my third HBOT session in 10 or so days, I felt something amazing - it started to relax. I excitedly wrote my doctor that it felt like I had released a silent scream and the mental and physical tension were dissappearing. She mentioned that this was likely due to a CNS/brain problem resolving with oxygen, and she started recommending HBOT to more of her patients. My chiropractor also immediately noticed the difference when he laid hands on my back, "what did you do? You feel like a totally different person!" He was surprised to see such improvement so rapidly. He spent an hour every week with me getting me to rebalance my gait and working out my many soft tissues adhesions. Little by little I got more range of movement and started to exercise again. I completed a course of 40 HBOT sessions, usually going 3-5 times per week, to 2.4 ATM for 75 minutes (after acclimation). I started sleeping better, and working more (consulting part-time) as my mind came back. My sense of humor and other quirky aspects of my personality also came back! I started doing long hikes in the Oakland hills, then my chiro cleared me to try running! I am 52 and thought my running days were over long ago, but soon I was doing 5-mile trail runs on steep and rocky terrain! (as I had in my 30s) Professionally, I have also been gaining momentum, with a new challenging full time job. So far, it's going well. It's been about 6 months since I started HBOT, and 3 months since I stopped doing it intensively, and the changes have been largely durable. I still pop in one every week or two to stay tuned up and resolve the ever-changing aches and pains as I continue to progress with my antibiotics. Overall, my life now is very manageable. I cannot ever promise this will happen for anyone else since there is such a vast difference in every Lyme case, and I was doing so many interventions at once, but I am very, very thankful I found Holistic Hyperbarics! WHAT TO EXPECT: I was an avid scuba diver previously, so I knew I would have no trouble clearing my ears. The sessions are pleasant and relaxing, you just put on the mask when they tell you you are at your depth, and usually I read a book or papers for work (no electronics at my deep depth) -- also I use colored pencils since pens will explode when you come out. I didn't get bad herx headaches from this, but would frequently feel little stings and burns in my known Lyme spots that passed quickly and moved around. Immediately after a session, I always had to hit the bathroom due to bladder pressure, and feel a little lightheaded which went away in 10 minutes or so. When I got home I was very hungry and wolfed down anything in the fridge, then a bit tired (I take this as a sign my immune system is very busy). After 4 treatments of oxygen therapy, felt like I never had surgery. I was referred by my co-worker for post-op laparoscopy surgery recovery. Alex and her medical team are very friendly and helpful. The facility is COVID safe and very clean. The chambers are cozy and spacious. They provide plenty of pillows and blankets if you need them for comfort. After every treatment the staff provides you spa water and fresh hot towels. If I can give a million stars to this amazing place I would. I can't say enough about Alex & the crew at Holistic Hyperbarics. With HBOT & the NEW offerings of brain training with Neurofeedback & Qeeg, Im looking forward to not only healing an old brain injury, but also healing the trauma too.
