All in all, the cost might seem high at first but it includes meals and all utilities unless you can't use the house Internet and must pay for your own. But the cable TV is free.
But they have lousy food and system of food service. Without any cafeteria sort of option, residents have no recourse but to sit at a table and wait for the courses of food to come out one by one. Sometimes, a half hour goes by before they even take dinner orders. Seniors who could manage a cafeteria line could get their food, eat, and then do whatever they want but they are bound to use the dining room. Too much pork, too many sauces, terrible pizza, things mixed with cheese, and iceberg is the only lettuce they use in their salads.
Communications are poor. Many residents miss meals or come to few of them or do not come to this or that meeting for one reason or another. Yet, sometimes, announcements are sometimes made before meals or at a meeting. Staff knows not everyone is there. They seem to be counting on word of mouth. The other system for sharing information is one of blaring loudspeakers in the hallway. A senior with compromised hearing have told me that, like me, they can hear it but cannot make out what is being said.
A member of the Christian community chose the Wednesday night film: The Chosen--a film series about Jesus. Being a series, it tied up each Wednesday night with its Christian film. It is not a documentary but follows a Christian version of the story of the Jew Jesus which represents neither the scholarly, the historical nor the Jewish consensus. read more
