The other night a new resident sat for an hour alone at a table waiting for is order to be taken even after the other guests told the servers he had not even had is order taken, He finally started walking back to his room hungry and unfed when the waitress finally followed down the hall to take his order. Meals with friends are a highlight of the day for my Mom and her friends. Both my Mom and her friends have complained to Diane the person in charge of the facility and also written complaints in the suggestion box, To no avail! My Mom purchases food to eat in her room as she sometimes just cant muster up the patience for a 2 hour lunch or dinner. The cost to live here is not cheap and meals are included in the cost, But if you can't get fed... There is no value.

I was immediately surprised at the building architecture and surroundings and upon entering my room, I was greeted by sunlight, clean, fresh, and a great room, kitchenette and bedroom, large roll in shower and bathroom. I was greeted by name and even one of the residents was holding me a place for lunch. The executive staff is very professional but warm and kind. The support staff is equally amenable. I have never had anyone be short with me upon a request. The activities director is amazing in the number of activities she organizes. If you are looking for a place for a family member or yourself, this facility is a nice size. Not too small, not too big. I would definitely return here in the future if necessary for my well being. One of my best friends just retired as an ombudsman for retirement centers. Oswego Place did not know who she was of course and she said to me "the atmosphere here is positive and welcoming."

She has lost count the number of activities staff that have come and gone and it's a revolving door for care staff. Staff are literally there one week and gone the next. There is no continuity whatsoever and understaffing is a constant problem along with theft. There have been many residents, including my aunt who have had precious items stolen, and although there is a rumor that one of the elderly residents is the thief, my aunt believes it is the unscrupulous staff. Bonaventure leadership does not care whatsoever and gaslights those who report theft. Bonaventure leadership has also been entirely unresponsive to the issues raised by residents. My aunt has asked repeatedly for fresh fruit for breakfast but has never been served anything other than cheap canned fruit. She also asked for more cultural activities outside of the building, but that almost never happens. Our family knows Dwight Dunton, the owner of Bonaventure, and that's why my great aunt was moved to Oswego Place. But it turns out knowing people in high places is no assurance. Dwight rakes in millions of dollars off self-paying residents and Medicaid, living a rich man's life while his employees and his customers suffer under poor management and a lack of investment in business operations and facility maintenance. Sadly, Oswego Place is just another example of a multi-millionaire living off the backs of good, hard working people.

While the other facility was doing an ok job, the care had been decreasing in quality over the year before we left. Finally, I grew concerned that she was no longer safe there. I know it is a big step to move someone with memory issues, but I felt it had to be done. By moving her, things have gotten so much better and she has improved in many ways thanks to the outstanding staff. The facility is quieter with fewer residents with special needs (violent, stealing, etc), and she has her own room. I feel that because of her new location and environment, we have seen a number of small improvements: she is conversing more, showing more independence by getting up on her own in the mornings to dress, making her bed and starting to ask for her purse and lipstick, and MOST OF ALL always smiling more. When I take her out for a drive, she's notices traffic when turning. She is just showing a renewed interest in her world, and I am grateful. Prior to coming to Stephanie Gardens, she seemed to have lost interest in her life and surroundings. The Caregivers and Medtechs are so nice and attentive to her needs - which extends to all the Residents. I'm always informed of any changes to be made and my opinion is asked for prior to any changes except emergencies. Activities, food and any maintenance required are far beyond what we had previously experienced. I have great respect for the Director who runs a well-operating facility, but treats her employees very well and is seen often hugging Residents and conversing with them. The facility is spotless. I am impressed and pleased with all of the staff I have encountered. They may only recognize one "Employee of the Month," but to me ALL of them are since we arrived. The RNs are in touch with the patient's needs and contact the proper medical providers when needed. Unfortunately there is significant delay in initiating proper treatment, such as antibiotics, etc. In addition, treatment managers to not contact family members routinely nor do they give details of care, planning, testing, etc. prior to the group sit down. In some cases this can be a real challenge for the patient, who may need better communication due to hearing, visual limits etc. After release, we inquired about some dates of care via telephone x 3 to the care specialist, with No response. While at Village Rehab, my husband complained about the food, did not eat, and lost weight. So I tasted the "soup"....he was right. After returning home he has regained some weight and pursues regular meals, so it was not his illness.
