Some work for the campground. It does get very dark and quiet at night - which is great. We honestly can't get over how much "weed" we smell all the time. It's legal here but it can get overwhelming. Supposedly, it's allowed if you use inside your unit. Can't say I would recommend this place.

Fishing was also disappointing because our lines kept getting tangled in the grass, which made it frustrating rather than enjoyable. There really isn't much to do on the weekends. They offer a small craft activity on Saturday mornings, but I was told it gets canceled frequently, and even when it does happen, it isn't very impressive. They don't seem to organize cornhole tournaments or other campground activities unless you're a seasonal camper. They have a place called the A-Frame for adults, but it was never open during our stay. In the rec hall, everything was locked up, so there wasn't much for families to do unless you wanted to spend money on the arcade games. We were also charged a hotel fee even though the cabins have no air conditioning, no private bathrooms, and not even a fan. We go on about 10 camping trips a year, and in our opinion, this campground seems geared more toward older adults than families with children. After leaving, we went to Oakleaf Campground, which, as I understood it, wasn't going to be fun, but we had booked it a while back; to our surprise, it was great. They had an event called Redneck Olympics, where there were nonstop activities, a very clean swimming pool, and plenty of things for the kids to do. The difference in family entertainment was night and day. Unfortunately, Holiday Acres did not live up to our expectations, and we would not choose to stay there again for a family camping trip.

Lots of waterfront camping space, but if you actually want to be able to sleep in on those hot summer mornings there's also lots of space in the wooded areas to camp. Everything was really clean upon arrival (as clean as it can be for being a camping area) and was kept as such throughout the weekend. Not an easy task when you have 500+ people traipsing around. There's two sets of restrooms (with running water) and the ones at the front also have 2 showers in each bathroom (mens and womens). The showers were much great, hot and good water pressure. There's also a concession area right as you arrive at the campground which carries smaller items (sunglasses, waters, etc) and are super reasonably priced. The only downfall is that you can't swim in the lake (at least not when I was there), but it's a bit murky so I'm not sure if one would want to. They do rent out paddleboats and canoes though for $50 a day with a $50 refundable deposit. There's also some pretty good fishing in the lake. One of my favorite things about this place was the fact that the owner, John, was always on hand. Interacting with patrons, making sure things were running smoothly. He really did a great job of making us feel welcomed. I'll definitely be returning next year :D

The campground itself is secluded and quiet. There are spots for RV and tent camping. Bathrooms are extremely clean and well kept. The lady that runs it is super nice, but don't speed on her grounds or she will destroy you. The lake is home to all kinds of wildlife and teeming with fish. The owner (Kim) doesn't keep track of paperwork or your deposit so I suggest you do. It's the same crafts for the kids it's been for the 5 years we were seasonal. The electric is severely outdated and the WiFi isn't strong enough to actually use it. Dogs are allowed to bark nonstop and if you complain be ready to be told "that's what dogs do". The upgrades to the campground are nonexistent but the upgrades shes made to her house that's on the same property are definitely noticeable. Just know your money isn't going into the campground it's going to her house. Just go to George Washington. It's right down the road. It's quiet, peaceful and clean. No drunks and excessively loud live music. It's a campground not a bar.

It was quiet. That's the best thing I can say about Gibson Hill after spending a week there…read more Totally unkempt and in disarray. The roads are a rocky, dusty rutted mess. The campsites while some newly graveled, not well I might add, are not level. The electric at my site kept tripping off. I finally discovered, with no help from the non-existent management, that the service disconnect breaker was bad. Luckily I had an extra 30A cord and was able to plug into the unoccupied adjacent site. How this abomination has any 5 star reviews is above my pay grade. Duringthe week we were here we never saw a camp representative. We were not welcomed by anyone affiliated with the campground and I never saw anyone on duty in the office. Our site had no picnic table and no fire ring and had areas dotted with clumps of gray fur. Obviously noone had inspected our site for cleanliness prior to our arrival. Our first visitor was a 4' rat snake. There was debris strewn all over the grounds. There was one trash container. Unlined and uncovered. No dog poop bags or signs regarding poop pickup. There was a lot of demolition but no new construction ongoing. The "pool" is a 4' deep square under construction and far from being completed. The "resort" signage was a joke. It took me 3 tries to find my way out of the campground. The entrance sign is installed parallel to the road rather than perpendicular to it for visibility. The number of decrepit or abandoned trailers on site was unbelievable. We were never told if the campground was under new management and/or under going refurbishment. In any event it was missing the mark. Unfortunately we paid for a week in advance so we were stuck here. NEVER AGAIN. I'm leaving this truthful review so no other potential campers are duped into staying here. Definitely an absentee owner who doesn't have a clue. Really too bad because the location and grounds have enormous potential. I will let Happy Grounds and RV LIFE know of my great disappointment and suspect reviews. By the way, to the reviewer who said they enjoyed the pool, THERE IS NO POOL. Their advertising is outright false, misleading and deceptive. DO NOT CAMP HERE.

Love going to this nudist campground. I have been three times this year and thought it was a good…read moretime to share my experiences. The grounds are beautiful, the people were friendly and accepting of a newcomer. It's a nice place to undress completely and just become one with nature while enjoying natural freedom. The sauna was fired up, which added greatly to the whole day. If you are a naturist, you should check it out. Get comfy and become part of a community that accepts the freedom of clothes-free living. I may even join next year so I can enjoy life in a natural and comfortable way, relaxing the way I prefer, without judgement. Highly recommend anyone interested in naturism to go to Dyer Woods, step out of your clothes and into a liberating day of relaxation.

Went for first time last year (2024) to walk the trails as a newbie nudist. Traveled from…read moresoutheastern Connecticut, so about a 45 minute drive and well worth it. All the people are great. The trails and scenery are beautiful and going nude just made it that much more special. I volunteered with the Fall clean up and met more wonderful people. Returned this year (2025) a couple times. Enjoy the Fall time during the week. On my 10/7/2025 visit, the nice woman that checked me in said the sauna was open. I hadn't visited that yet. Went hiking the trails, sat in a lounge chair by the pool pond and read a few chapters of a new book, then decided to try out the sauna. So glad I did. After that took one more hike. I really enjoy Dyer Woods and will be coming back again and again.

I'm just extremely confused on why we still have these stigmas in 2025 and think it needs to be changed. Dogs attitudes are a product of the owners training. Just because a specific dog breed needs more stimulation, enrichment and training to behave correctly does not mean all dogs that belong to that breed are aggressive. Unless you have a golden retriever, i'd steer clear of this place.
