I thought this was a lovely campground…read more The grounds and restrooms/showers were immaculate. Everything was incredibly well maintained. The sites offer decent privacy. They're not on top of each other, although you can see your neighbors. The staff was wonderful--incredibly friendly. They sell wood if you need wood (for a fair price, too), and they have books to borrow in the check-in cabin if you want a book to read (and movies if you have an RV, or a device that plays movies). There are some decent features to the grounds, also. They have a playground on the campsite, as well as basketball hoops. Right outside the campsite is Thompson lake, where you can fish, boat, and kayak. They have a pretty big disc golf course, which we enjoyed, and some hiking trails. I would definitely come back to this campsite. I'm a big fan of Recreation.gov, and this was one of the better ones I've been to.

We stayed here when the tornado occurred on 8/18/21 and we were fine. The tent kept us nice and dry and it was beautiful and sunny after the storm. If you like hiking, there are some descent trails around the lake and the airline trail is also nearby. Putnam is also a cute little town that is worth a visit. Walmart and grocery stores are about 10 minutes away too. This years hosts and the hosts in 2019 were both incredibly friendly and helpful. They did a great job at keeping the place well maintained.

I believe you can check in without a staff member present but it was helpful to ask a few questions since it was our first time there. It would be helpful if our pre reservation details told us when the check in station would be staffed so you don't miss the window if you can avoid it! Check in was easy and navigating the camp sites is very easy, even in the dark. We stayed at one of the hike in sites and it was a great time. We were able to find plenty of sticks to make a fire without bringing any of our own wood in. I love that the sites are pet friendly! One group came in after us and was at the site next to us, which was a little louder than we'd hoped. Some sites are nicely placed with a hill obscuring the adjacent sites but this one we could clearly see each other - perhaps due to the leaves falling off the trees. Highly recommend doing the rest of the loop back to the car along the lake, it is so beautiful and mossy! We will be back!

You're not allowed to bring a single beer in but the entire place is Cheech&Chong movie. I literally gagged on weed smoke the entire weekend. People walking around the beach, around kids, smoking. Aggressive dogs barking at everyone. The site across from me had 4 vehicles and six tents. They didn't even fit in the site, they were literally back in the woods. It was beyond loud. No one around and no one said anything. Some idiot was flying a drone with a camera over my site. I'm done with this place. It's gone downhill and no one cares what goes on. No enforcement for noise after quiet hours.

I looked up the campground before I went to see what they offered, but what i discovered is that they lost a lawsuit against the state. They were found to be responsible of destroying protected wet lands and illegally dumping. I camp to view nature and I actively support environmental causes. These folks aren't it. If you support nature go elsewhere.

We pulled in to rent a campsite or whatever we would have to do to use the playground and they said they were completely booked for the season. Also they are not accepting any campers in tents for 2021. Ok I get it- But we literally offered to pay JUST to use the campground! They "claimed" it was a liability. I would have literally signed a contract to accept all risk and liability. Refused to work with us... Broke my 5 year olds heart. He cried as we drove away. Never knew people could be so cold. I GET IT- people are sue happy- but we are literally NEIGHBORS. THERE wasn't a soul on the playground. Do a good deed and let a 5 year old play for 10 minutes. Nope people are too worried about $$$$!!!! Sad world. I have friends who have campsites here- gonna have to reach out now. Gotta Unbreak my sons heart somehow. This is probably ALL I will hear about for the next month.
