Something out of a fever dream, we went to Holey Cream after a Broadway show looking for a late night treat. When we arrived they had a very limited inventory, although that's understandable given the time at night. The more concerning thing was that upon entering we were not greeted by the worker who watched us come in and who we made eye contact with, who was also watching video on her phone in the back while she saw us come in at that. Also, she had a baby with her on her back in a baby backpack, which while we understand the need to take care of your child, we cannot see how that is a good idea when working around open food. After standing there for 30 seconds she came up to us and said "are you ready to order?" and we quickly got our oreo donut and left. The donut was okay, not great but not bad, certainly would've been better if not left out in the open all day, assuming it was freshly made that day. Five star food. 2 to 3 star service. This place is amazing. I've been to another location in the city. The combination of a hot donut mixed with delectable smooth ice cream that's cold. You can sample flavors in order to help you choose - they have a few varieties of oreo ice cream (include coffee oreo) The donuts are baked at a separate location - there's display donuts available but none in your immediate view to see how fresh they are. The display donuts obvs aren't the freshest looking. You can however get a donut ice cream sandwich, which is probably their unique item to come here for. Ice cream was just fine - very standard and nothing to write home about. The flavors tried were oreo and holey moley (bunch of candy bits interspersed into the ice cream). I got the the Maine blueberry ice cream sandwiched between two halves of a donut with M&Ms, strawberry frosting, and chocolate sauce (made to order). It was every bit as tasty as it sounds. I thought it was just going to be one scoop of ice cream spread around the donut, but I was wrong - they gave 4 whole scoops of ice cream! This place has gone downhill I ordered a sundae, all the items in the sundae were incorrect. I asked for fudge I gave an entire cup filled with chocolate hard shell. I moved to the neighborhood this year and have started to frequent this spot for the donuts - they are incredible! Each one is so pretty to look at and absolutely delicious to eat! The staff is always friendly and happy to greet me. I usually go in the evenings for a post-work treat. I don't usually hang out inside, but the shop is cute enough. It was the sweetest salted caramel ice cream that I have ever tried! The vanilla glazed donut with sprinkles was okay. I hate to say it, but I think I prefer the donuts from Krispy Kreme over this. While I do love desserts, I think I prefer a more subdued sweetness or at least other flavors (like a stronger saltiness in the salted caramel) to balance it out. With all of the possible flavors out there for both donuts and ice cream, the ones offered here seem pretty basic. This also makes the $8.75 price point for an ice cream/donut sandwich seem steep. $5.25 for the smallest size of ice cream is crazy too, and it's only upwards in price from there. I know it's New York, but it still seems wild to me. Already 2 stars for open late and the courtesy response. The doughnut display (see picture) looked enticing but I was on a milkshake mission. A patron was being served and they ordered a fruit loops doughnut. The server took a blank slate of a doughnut, dipped it in this amazing warm glaze, which did remind me of the KRISPY KREME curtain glaze, and then proceeded to add the cereal toppings (2 more stars for the idea coming to fruition and the process.) The server proceeded to accompany the dressed up doughnut with 2 scoops of ice cream. I was amazed at the amount of sweetness and shocked. Now people, we all know that this is an establishment that focuses on sugar, so as with everything else in life, choose your menu items responsibly. Don't blame the establishment. Promised the kids a treat here on a recent trip to NYC, they were pleased. The store is small with only a few chairs and no tables; outside a few more seats but under a dripping ac unit so not ideal, lil hard on a hot day to not sit and eat this creation bc it is melting rapidly. A fantastic place to visit if you've been saving up your cheat days for a couple of years and want to cash them all in at once. This place had been on my radar for a while, I was able to resist the temptation but finally gave in this past weekend. I was conflicted between the peanut butter chunk and birthday cake ice cream, but went with the pb as the donut add ons had more options that paired well with it. I added Nutella frosting, Heath bar pieces, Oreo crumbles and peanut butter sauce to the donut. As one would hope for an 8$ ice cream sandwich, the portion size was generous to say the least. It ended up being more like a sundae; I can't imagine anyone actually picking this up and eating it like a sandwich without needing a shower afterwards. Disappointment. That's how I felt with Holey Cream. Looked it up, got excited and then... 1.) Walked in around 9pm and the place was a mess! Napkins, melted ice cream piles and jimmies all over the floor! 2.) The server could not understand my order. I had to catch her error and another server had to step in and clarify the order (language barrier) 3.) The donut is not a great donut (not super soft or anything to write about really) 4.) Cake flavor is so sweet you could have an immediate cavity 5.) How they serve the donut (plastic take out container the size of a sandwich) sandwich doesn't allow for how large it is and makes for a messy experience (hence the dirty floor!)
