I had dinner here on a Friday night a couple of weeks ago while in town. Everglades City is a very…read moresmall town and nighttime dining options are few. Island Cafe had several cars parked in front so I thought that was a good sign. This is a table service restaurant and I ordered the fried scallop dinner with a loaded baked potato and salad for $25. Then entree arrived about 15 minutes later. The salad had a little cheese on top of the greens with ranch dressing on the side. It was a good salad. The seafood came with several fried scallops and a couple of hush puppies along with a small ear of corn and the baked potato. What was missing was the cheese and bacon for the potato. The waitress disappeared so I wasn't able to get the missing bacon and cheese and had to make do with some butter for the tater. This was disappointing. The scallops were decent in taste but I couldn't get anymore cocktail sauce because of the missing waitress. This meal was substandard and I felt underwhelmed by the entire experience. The food was ok in taste but it didn't stand out to me and the table service was non existent. Perhaps Island Cafe is better than this but giving a 3 score is generous in my opinion.

We arrived around pm so the restaurant was not busy. Hubby and I had our choice of seating. They have a full bar, separate pizza oven from the other kitchen, indoor and outdoor seating. The vibe is a little weird though. It's an Italian restaurant who plays sort of like cruise ship dinner music combined with sports on several tv's. There were several people working but one guy was the host, the bar tender, waiter and runner. He was pretty efficient but I'm not gonna lie, I watched him wipe his face several times without washing his hands. That sort of did it for me. Jinny's sandwich came out way before mine which wasn't a big deal as I know it typically takes awhile for a heavy pizza to bake. Not sure when I will learn, do not order deep dish pizza from a place that doesn't specialize in it. Just because you line a pan with crust does not mean it's deep dish. The sauce was ok but I would not order it again. It really was just a regular pizza with tall sides. Very underwhelming.

The staff was absolutely incredible. The atmosphere was vibrant yet upscale. We started off with complementary bread with an oil (& something paste - I didn't catch the name) which was excellent. I ordered the Cernia Alla Pescatore ($52): grouper, clams, mussels, shrimp, garlic, white wine sauce, grape tomatoes served over spinach linguine. All entrées come with a house salad or you can do an upgrade to a Caesar. I chose the house salad that comes with balsamic vinaigrette. Very well put together, light and refreshing. The Cernia Alla Pescatore was very flavorful and everything was cook to perfection. For desert, I had the Profiteroles ($17): cream puff filled with vanilla ice cream and topped with hot chocolate fudge. What a great way to end a fantastic meal!!! Overall, yes, this was a splurge (expensive) meal but so well worth it!! Highly recommend for a special occasion!

The restaurant was formerly a bit more upscale, and the quality of food far superior. It's Italian style food, but I would've guessed most of it was store bought-type quality. I got a seafood pasta and the pasta itself tasted cheap, the tomato sauce tasted like it was one from a can. Just lacking any flavor which was disappointing. The best part of the dish were the mussels. The restaurant itself has a nice setup, with a main floor and upstairs and a small bar. They had live music the night we went which was a nice touch. Service can be a bit slow and lacking and honestly it wouldn't be on my list to come back to when in Sanibel.
