Delicious beers and a fun food truck helped me enjoy a very pleasant evening in Springfield. I think the only thing that would have made it perfect would have been a power outlet near the table where I could have charged my laptop but that's really a minor thing. Parking was a challenge and I was just about to leave when I spotted the lot across the street that said "Hold Fast Parking." We were this close to abandoning and losing this lovely time. After lunch on a Friday afternoon, we stopped in here for a few drinks. We sat at the bar and met, and talked to Carol, one of the owners. Mackenzie was behind the bar and took great care of us. My husband tried a few IPA's and liked them. He usually drinks IPA's that are a little more hoppy, but he thought the ones he had were perfect for the afternoon and the weather. I'm not a beer drinker, but I really liked the rum and coke slushy. There was definitely some rum in there. The place is large and has a lot of tables/seating. They have food trucks at night, bands, etc. all the doors (garage style) weee open and these was a nice breeze. We loved this spot. You know it's going to be a great place to spend some time when you walk in and cute dogs are hanging out around the bar. Most importantly, the beer was great. My personal favorite was the porter, but my wife loved the vanilla bean blonde the best. All that we tried were top notch! The old fire station where it's housed was such a neat vibe, right down to the original fire pole. We loved that it was all women working in there (not something you see a lot at craft breweries) and one of the owners chatted for a bit and has a really cool story. She said she has been told she's crazy for starting this place, I think we'd all be crazy not to patron it and support it full force! When we're in town again we will definitely be back! Definitely the best patio of all breweries, I also love their rotating food carts, and they have killer swag. But I've gotta say; not the best craft beer I've ever had. They just really haven't nailed their formulas down, everything seems just a bit off. For instance their Smash has a funky front note, and finishes sour and dry in the throat. Every beer I had that was theirs had either a foul beginning or ending taste. The brews also didn't seem consistent, the taste is different week to week. The other issue I have is the price; they are extremely too expensive for not nailing the taste and balance down of their beers. My advice to them is lower your prices, and really work on those formulas. So 4 stars for the patio, swag, and service; 2 for the beer and price, making it a balance of 3 stars. read more

Absolutely love the vibe here and their beer! It's an open air establishment with inside and patio seating. It was HOT outside, but they have several fans blowing inside that make a huge difference. I used to work with one of the owners, Carol, so I've been dying to try out Hold Fast for a while and finally got the chance to with some family and friends. We went for Springfield's Tap and Pour Tour. It was like a million degrees out, so cold beer was very welcomed. We all enjoyed our beers (tried several different ones). We wished we would've known they had a flight, but didn't see it on the menu and didn't learn that they did until too late in the evening. They came out with a new beer at 7 and that was quite the experience. They had sirens going and people were clapping and cheering... so fun! The only reason why I'm giving 4 stars is because it was VERY loud (I'm easily overstimulated with noise) and because there's not anywhere cool to sit when the garage doors are open).
