Sushi Special
Steve C.

Small sushi restaurant in a strip mall. It's well hidden, blink and you'll miss it. I had the sushi special, which is 8 nigiri and a spicy tuna roll. It was middle of the road and each piece was pretty small. For $39 I guess I expected more. Good enough in a pinch.

Vegetable Tempura

We had dinner here tonight. I made reservations beforehand but I don't think it even mattered. They didn't ask. Parking in ample in the shopping center lot. It'a decently popular. We tried the hot sake. It was refreshing and warming. Our waitress was very attentive and the service was excellent. The wait tone on our food was long at all. I ordered the veggie tempura for my entree. It came with salad and miso soup. The beef was delicious and tender. I love how it comes sliced. I had it well-done. I would've loved more rice and the portion size was small. I'd dine here again. It's small, cozy, and intimate.

This was a horrible experience simply because of the service. First, as I was ordering the server Kyoko said "that's a lot of food" as if I didn't understand what I was ordering. I ordered two rolls and an entree. The comment was the first of many rude and inappropriate comments. My entree was brought out before the rolls. When I asked for the rolls first she replied, "at Japanese restaurants we bring all the food at one time." I replied that I've frequented many and this was the first time I'd heard of such. Her response, " they aren't Japanese. I'm Japanese. I know. Go check with them." This is no exaggeration. I stopped her and told her that was completely rude. She said it was busy so that's why she was rude. Finally, she brought out the same plates of salmon and chicken and the food was cold. When we asked for warm food she walked off and complained to her manager and made comments about us being cheap. I then asked for the check sans the entrees. I paid and as I was leaving this review she came back to the table to say that her daughter is half black and that she doesn't have a problem with black people. I then asked her to stop. The manager comes to remove plates and we talk to her and give her the details of our experience. Her response is " I'm sorry that happened I'll tell my boss. I won't be back.

Tiny sashimi portions, $7 each for 2 pieces of salmon and scallop. Tiniest amount of black tobiko on top of that roll

Not sure what happened to this restaurant but things have changed and unfortunately, for the worst.. I haven't been in a while and decided to revisit when sushi craving attacked. First off, they dramatically downsized the portions while increasing the prices. 2 pieces of SASHIMI scallop and scallop are $7 each. Usually with sashimi you get 3 pieces. Angel roll which I normally get only had a tiny amount of black tobiko on top. Second, I ordered ikura with brown rice. It came over white rice and when I mentioned it to the waitress, she told me the sushi chef told her it was brown rice. Um.. I'm looking at it and it's definitely WHITE, dramatically so next to my brown rice roll. She walked away and came back with 2 brown rice balls. Seriously? It's like going to an italian place and they bring you the ingredients separately for you to put together yourself. I felt offended. No way would I go back again. So disappointing since there aren't many places in the area serving brown rice rolls. Back to Orient Express for me. They just lost a loyal customer.

The Food is amazing and for the area it's a high in sushi ! All the staff is super nice. And it's super clean and cute inside. Definitely go and visit this is my 2nd visit and this will be my go to !

I went here for dinner on a Saturday night around 8:30pm and it wasn't packed but pretty full. The service was attentive and our server was really nice. Once you're seated, they bring you hot lavender towels so that was a nice touch. Food: Started with the squid salad - small portion but not bad. Then I had the Ruby Red roll - spicy tuna, asparagus, tempura flakes topped with seared tuna - it was great! Atmosphere: Cozy and intimate. Place is not very big but they take reservations.

Hoki Japanese Restaurant is unique in the fact that it very closely resembles an authentic Japanese restaurant that you would find in Tokyo or Kyoto. Having just spent two weeks in Japan last month, I can say for certain that the level of service, quality of fish, and prices all reflect what you would expect to find in Japan, all very high. The ambiance is quiet and romantic with a limited number of seats. The service is very attentive - they provide a hot towel upon seating and are quick to refill drinks and bring the food. If you are by yourself or with a friend, I recommend to sit at the sushi bar to get a view of the sushi chefs cutting up the fish and crafting the rolls. They have a wide selection of different rolls, sashimi, nigiri, and more. I would recommend to get hot green tea, try some sake if you drink alcohol (it's very good here) and order a speciality roll and an assortment of sashimi (yellowtail, tuna, and salmon are all good options). This will provide you with a very enjoyable experience and give you a good idea of what dining in Japan is like. Overall, the restaurant quality and service is worth 5 stars, but the prices are high, even higher than what you would find in Japan, therefore ultimately I settled on giving the restaurant 4 stars. If you are OK with spending the money and love the Japanese dining experience and food, then this place is definitely worth it. If you are looking for a budget-friendly sushi restaurant and are willing to sacrifice a bit of service and quality, then there are many other options in the area.

Chirashi Don
C L.

Went for dinner while in town on business. While I gave it a 4 star, it's really more like a 3.5 star. The staff was friendly and the food was good and fresh but there wasn't any "wow" factor about anything I had. I had agedashi tofu which had a nice chewy skin and soft interior but the tofu was bland and the dipping sauce also bland. The chirashi had fresh fish but the rice was too lightly seasoned, and the arrangement was average. Lastly, the hamachi kama was fresh and nicely broiled but there was too much seasoning on it and the dipping sauce tasted more like a soy sauce than a ponzu sauce.

Let's talk about the Cha Cha Cha roll -- that is my favorite for a reason. It's flavorful, well-made, and never misses. I've ordered it multiple times and it's always consistent, which matters. Customer service has always been great whenever I've visited, and the menu has plenty of options if you're with a group. If you're in Smyrna and craving sushi, this is a solid choice.

They were offering a buy-one-get-one-free deal on the chicken fried rice, which we decided to take advantage of so we could have leftovers. The portions were huge, which was definitely a plus. The chicken fried rice tasted good and was made fresh, but it could have used a bit more seasoning. It felt like something was missing, though I couldn't quite pinpoint what it was. Since the delivery took about an hour, I did have to reheat the food once it arrived. Overall, the price was great, especially considering the portion sizes. However, because the restaurant is a bit farther out, I did end up paying extra for delivery due to the distance.

5/5 Yakitori Janbeli…read moreI was in town for a business trip and decided to give Yakitori Janbeli a try after seeing all the glowing online reviews and the Food Network hype. I stopped by on a Tuesday evening around 8 PM, placed a call-in order, and it was ready in about 20 minutes--super convenient! I went with the fried rice and the Korean-style fried chicken. The place has a nice moderate-sized space with pleasant outdoor seating, and the staff was really friendly when I picked up my order. Once I got back and dug in, it was clear they use super fresh ingredients, and everything tasted like it was made to order. The fried rice had nice, layered flavors, and the chicken had a clean, crisp bite with a tasty sauce drizzled on top. Honestly, I couldn't quite see what all the major hype was about, but it was still a solid, good-quality meal with great presentation. That said, given the other more affordable options in the area with better portions, I probably wouldn't go back on my next visit. Would recommend if you're looking for fresh, quality ingredients in a convenient spot!

I shared the Karaage and Korean fried chicken with my friends and didn't find either to be something I would reorder, however I will say that my friends all spoke highly of the Korean fried chicken. For my main, I had the Wagyu Maki and it didn't live up to the expectations or price at all. We finished off with the mochi which was very tasty. I'll caveat this all with adding my friends who had the ramen and fried rice enjoyed their meals a lot more than mine. This could be a result of just ordering better items or just having a one-off bad experience myself. Overall, I think if you're avoiding seafood then Yakitori Jinbei might not be the best place to try in my personal experience.

Since I wasn't in the mood to sit down and eat, I went ahead and placed a call-ahead order for their House Lo Mein along with an order of fried chicken wings. The restaurant itself is fairly spacious with a nice, welcoming atmosphere once you step inside. The décor gives off a classic Chinese restaurant vibe that feels comfortable and relaxing. Parking, however, is a bit of a mixed bag. The spots right in front of the building are limited, so I ended up using the extended parking lot, which was a little dark and had that slightly eerie feeling at night -- nothing too wild or dangerous, but definitely not the most well-lit area I've seen. When I arrived to pick up my order, I was pleasantly greeted right at the door by the staff, who provided genuinely friendly and efficient customer service. That warm welcome made the whole pickup process smooth and quick. Once I got back to my hotel room and finally dug into the food, I have to say the House Lo Mein was prepared with fresh ingredients and good quality noodles and vegetables. It wasn't the most outstanding lo mein I've ever tasted in my life -- I've had versions that were more flavorful and better seasoned -- but it certainly wasn't the worst either. I'd honestly describe it as pretty mid-tier: solid, reliable, and worth what I paid for it on that particular evening. The fried chicken wings, on the other hand, really stood out to me. They were extra crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and actually had some noticeable flavor and seasoning, which made them quite enjoyable. All in all, it was a decent and satisfying meal that hit the spot after a tiring day. The portions were generous enough, and the value felt reasonable. I could definitely see myself returning to The Orient sometime in the future if I find myself back in the area and in need of a quick Chinese takeout option. That said, with plenty of other restaurants nearby that offer more affordable prices and bolder flavors, it probably wouldn't be my absolute first choice the next time I'm craving something similar. Still, if you're looking for a convenient, no-fuss spot with friendly service and consistently okay-to-good food, The Orient is worth considering.

I started with the hot-and-sour soup. It was so good, and my friend started with a ginger salad. Our favorite roll was the one with multiple types of fish, rolled with cucumber. It was so fresh and delicious. It's a little hard to eat, but totally worth the effort. We also had a Sheldon room with spicy tuna, and it was square instead of the regular roll, and we really enjoyed that one, too. When we come back, we'll be tempted to order the same rolls, if we can figure out what they're called, but if not, there are so many other phenomenal options on the menu we'd be happy with.

It's hidden inside a building, with plenty of on-site parking, where the entrance is next to the little gym. However, it's WAY worth the effort to find its location- hidden inside a nondescript building- follow the signs to the lucky cat above the door. The restaurant is beautiful inside with both a New York vibe with personal flare - with many anime treasures. Staff is friendly, humble, attentive and knowledgeable. The food.- mini masterpieces full of freshness and flavor - from the garlic hints on the edamame- to the chicken - in every form - be in the bone broth in the ramen. Exquisite!! The fried rice has little tufts of crunchy onion bits scattered throughout. You can watch the chefs or just bask beer the stars. Come explore your tastebuds like never before - you won't be disappointed! Oh...and the inside is SUPER cool. Tons of references of anime's with a quaint "sitting outside in a patio"..

Great ambiance and decor! However, I came for the food after seeing the 5 star reviews. I recently…read moretried Okiboru in Sandy Springs and was blown away with the flavors of the Tonkotsu ramen, bao buns, all the apps. It was perfection. i decided to try Enso because it's closer and wanted to compare especially with the stellar reviews. I ordered the Tonkotsu (of course), 3 different skewers, baos and a curry entre. The baos had incredible flavor but the texture of the pork was a little tough and chewy. All the skewers were just okay and small for the price. The garnish under the skewers was really good and flavorful. Now, on to my main thing.... The Tonkotsu. My whole purpose for coming here. Disgusting!!! The broth tasted like dirty sink water with no salt or flavor!! The pork was flavorless and not tender. The fixings were all blah. Such a shame because it was visually pretty. I was so disappointed. The waiter asked me how was it. I told her it was very lackluster. She didn't try to do anything to satisfy the customer. I kept it cute and didn't make a fuss because I knew Id never return. All the food looked better than it tasted besides the curry rice bowl which was good. If you want authentic, bold Japanese ramen and dishes (40% cheaper too) , take the trip to Okiboru. I'm giving it 3 stars instead of 2 because it was very clean with a nice bathroom. The food is easily 2 starts. (Lunch Menu. Not dinner).
