The owner promised to warehouse our appliances that they wouldn't refund us for when we asked (right after purchasing because our contractor couldn't do the job we wanted). I was pricing dryers and wanted to by small business. A salesman named Mo Dudley approached me right away. I had Pictures of my old dryer and how it hooked up. He ignored my photos and proceeded to sell me an electric dryer. I purchased a dryer then and there on my amex card. come to find out my husband said it is a gas dryer, which you can clearly see in my pictures. I then made another trip To Hoffmans where I found the company had charged my credit card for a washer and a dryer totalling 1300 dollars . That transaction was voided and I bought a comparable gas dryer. When they delivered the dryer they informed me that they CANNOT hook it up because of liability reasons of the gas line. They left with everything!!! I am out 875 dollars for a dryer I will never receive. I have not been issued a check, or offered any type of I am sorry , or compensation at all. My husband then made a 4th trip to the store to reason with them. After he explained the situation (and maybe was perturbed, of course.) they kicked him out of the store and threatened the police. My husband and I have a state attorney generals office employee who is investigating them for bad business practices. Furthermore we called the BBB on them. Aug 17, around 3:00 p.m. we went into Hoffman's to look at dishwashers. There were three salesmen, with three patrons. We waited about fifteen minutes, then a salesman said "I'll be with you in a minute." He then proceeded to follow the couple to another part of the store. We waited for another ten minutes, then finally left. All the dishwashers we looked at had no prices or prices crossed out. We will buy a dishwasher elsewhere. Also, you need to put on your AC. Some appliance stores repair appliances. Hoffman's is not among them. We remodeled our kitchen 2 years ago, purchasing GE Profile appliances -- a considerable investment, but worth it (or so we thought). So far, the refrigerator and dishwasher have failed. When we called Hoffman's, their response was, "Call GE." Fortunately, we were able to get the refrigerator repaired quickly, but we've been without our dishwasher for a month because for some unknown reason, GE won't ship the needed part from its warehouse. Appliances shouldn't fail after only 2 years of moderate use. Next time, I'll buy appliances from a store that is willing to service them. read more

The salesperson (Stan) was super helpful and knowledgeable with multiple details...probably why our contractor recommended them! They did not disappoint and were on-target for ordering at the right time based on the "backorder situation". My fiance and I chose to shop at Hoffman's appliance for a high end dishwasher to support small business. The sales person was extremely rude and tried to sell us a certain brand and dissuade us from the one we wanted. I was so insulted that I left the store and called the manager the next day. The manager has not returned my call thereby showing even more disrespect. By the way, I am an army veteran as was my late husband and we have raised special needs children and adults. Our gas dryer died on a Sunday night. During the following week we were having a hard time getting over to Lowe's or Home Depot because of kids' activities and other things that were taking up our time, and the laundry started to pile up. So I decided to pop into Hoffman during my lunch hour because I work close to Winton Place. The salesperson I spoke with was knowledgable and didn't try to oversell anything. He explained the basic features of many of the dyers, and I left the store with two model numbers that I was interested in and wanted to do more research on. I priced the dryers out online and read some reviews. I then finally found a few minutes to make it over the Lowe's and Home Depot. The base price of the dryers I wanted on initially appeared to be cheaper at Lowe's and Home Depot than at Hoffmans, but after more careful analysis I realized that Hoffman included installation in their price, whereas Lowe's and Home Depot did not. So, to my suprise, the all-in price (delivery, setup and haul-away) at Hoffman was actually cheaper than the all-in price at Lowe's and Home Depot (because Lowe's and Home Depot appear to charge ~$145 for installation of a gas dryer). I called the guys at Hoffman and told them we wanted to go with them, and the guys at Hoffman delivered my dryer within 24 hours, and filled out all the paperwork for the warranty on my behalf. To start off, let me say that I'm really giving them a 3 1/2 star review, but I'm rounding up only because the last review was so harsh. To start with, I found them to be professional almost to a fault. What they did, they did well, and they were even able to accomidate a last-minute change in our order, even though it was a 'special order' at that. Yes, I'm sure we paid more for that mistake, but then, if we'd had a REAL designer working on this project, we probably would've chosen the better stove from the beginning, or changed the design. In the end, I'm sure the cost is roughly similar. We bought a dishwasher and a stove. The dishwasher was delivered and installed during the construction, and the stove after. We had no complaints about the install of the dishwasher, but the stove was a bit of a problem. They didn't want to damage the stove by squeezing it in to the (intentionally) very tight space, so we ended up having to get the contractor to do the final installation. A hassle, yes, but within 4 hours, it was installed and working. Still, despite the issue with the stove install, they were always very helpful. When we found out that a part included with the stove was incorrect for the part, they were helpful in getting us the correct piece. I doubt that any of the 'big box stores' would've done as much. Now, aside from the stove installer who didn't want to take any chances, the only other issues are that their selection is limited to only certain brands, and so if you want a certain type of appliance, you might find selection a bit thin. Also, they obviously don't spend much on the showroom, which might be an issue for some people who want to shop in a 'hoity-toity' showroom (like the one over at Ferguson, across the street). read more

Knowledgeable people. Good selection. Decent prices. BUT be wary of the six month interest-free payback period. It's not as one would expect. Case in point: bought washer-dryer combo. It didn't fit my space. My fault, poorly measured. Hoffman's was good about taking it back and didn't even charge a re-stocking fee. I made plans to order a new set but we were in the midst of renovations which were taking longer than I thought they would. We decided to move in later. I went, TWO MONTHS later and ordered a different set. I fully expected the first sale would be null and void on the financing arrangement and i would then be charged for the new sale and for six months beginning at the time of the new purchase. Instead, I now had a four month payback calendar, initiated at the time of the first purchase. Strange. Does not seem fair at all. It even smacks of 'false advertising'. Ad should be six months from the time of initial purchase, even if you never take possession of it. If you want to apply that open line of credit to a later purchase your zero interest payback period is for as many months as is left of the ORIGINAL 'loan'. I called. I was provided the analogy of a car loan. Starts when approved for the loan. If you 'pay it off' sooner by not taking the car off the lot, you can transfer the 'loan' to a different car. Payback period and interest remain the same. So that great deal of six months interest free, in my case, ended up four months interest-free. Not right. Not what is advertised. I'm steering clear of Hoffman's in the future due to this switch in terms. Since when is a non-sale a sale? No possession of goods equals no sale. If I didn't later buy at all, would that 'loan' still be on my credit report? No. Because I don't owe anything. The 'loan' never happened. No suds equals no purchase. No purchase equals nothing owed. Nothing owed equals no payback period initiated. Later purchase should start a new six month clock. If the second purchase had been five months later, one would now have one month to go interest free before the entire amount was due. That analogy to a car purchase? Not applicable. Car loan but no car equals no loan initiated. I was ELIGIBLE for those terms when I agreed to the financing. I wasn't UTILIZING the terms. I'm not shopping there anymore. It's really too bad because those great salespeople selling good products at a decent price get ensnared by a company offering that isn't what it should be. read more

The advert for Hoffman Appliance that used to show before films at The Little made me laugh. I'd laugh in the way I do when I want to display outward bravado and hide that I'm secretly a little scared inside. The ad seemed to promote a store embodying all the worst features of used car lots - including predatory sales people. Then our microwave died, and we convinced ourselves we should upgrade to one with more power, More Power, MORE POWER! Of course, Hoffman Appliance was the only local place with our chosen model in stock. Girding our loins, off we went. The store itself is no warehouse - it's the size of a standard strip-mall shop, so inventory is limited. I'm not sure how well they can compete with big-box stores considering this constraint. If you have something specific in mind, I'd advise calling first to see if they have the model in stock. Prices are entirely reasonable. We found the place run by seemingly reformed used car lot salesmen. There's more than a hint they're trying hard to be on their good behavior (a product of hypnotism? a 12 step program? an intensive re-education seminar?). I wonder if the effort to be good could be killing their spirit - at least a couple of the guys came across as inhabiting a realm between subdued and sullen. Not a big thing. They were in no way pushy, I never felt violated, and they were willing to spend time answering questions and looking up information. There was no hard-sell - the representative helping us walked away as soon as we expressed doubts about making a purchase. It felt almost as if we were being dismissed, but he could have been just giving us some privacy to talk amongst ourselves. We made the purchase, hauled the microwave home, and discovered more power is not compatible with decent popcorn. A third gets incinerated, a third is only mostly edible, and a third never pops. Reduced power mode meant full power cycles on and off (with a long duty cycle) - also a disaster when it comes to popcorn. Neither of which is even remotely the fault of Hoffman Appliance - my image of them has changed for the better. read more

I suggest they start taking care of Rochester and surrounding suburbs if they want to stay in business. It's a shame when you're local small company doesn't take care of you just ridiculous. Our old refrigerator broke down and because the parts to fix it would have taken 2-3 weeks, we decided to purchase a new one. We called Hoffman's Appliance on Tuesday 4/28 and talked to Pat. We decided on a model and he said it would be delivered on 4/30. Right on time the delivery and set-up men came. I noticed that it was not boxed (maybe a floor model?) They installed it and took away the old one. They set the controls and told us to wait 24 hours for it to come up to temperature. 24 hours later we checked the inside and it was not even cold. We immediately call Pat at Hoffman's and he said that since it was under warranty we should call Whirlpool (the manufacturer). They cannot come until 5/6 to check out the problem. So we have been without a refrigerator for over a week, and have had to throw out all our food! We are VERY disappointed in Hoffman's Appliances because we tried to buy from a local business instead of a "big box store." read more

Years ago we purchased from Hoffman's and now that we needed to replace some appliances we decided to check their prices again. I called and spoke to Pat who was able to give me prices and information over the phone. He offered better prices than every store I contacted , included Home Depot, Best Buy, Lowe's, Orvilles and Charlotte. We went into the store, a bit skeptical that they would not hold to the prices given. However, we were greeted at the door and Pat was just as professional, knowledgeable and kind as he was on the phone and stood by his prices. We have purchased many appliance over the last 20 years from Hoffman's because they are local. The last two experiences were very poor. The latest was today with a microwave oven, We knew what model we wanted went to the store and checked it out. They said they had one in stock and we purchased it. Got it home and out of the box when I realized they sold me a different lower quality model than the one we chose. Took it back and did not even get an apology. I used Hoffman's Appliance to replace my range and built in microwave. They have a better selection especially of higher end appliances than the big box stores and they will beat their price! Given that they are appliance experts, they also helped find what met my needs better than the big box stores. Hoffman's arranged for delivery and installation as well as removal of my old appliances which went without a hitch. If I need another appliance in the future my first stop would definitely be at Hoffman's. read more

I wish I didn't have to give Hoffman's Appliance any stars. First I did my homework and knew the brand of stove I was looking for. I try to avoid the big box stores andI'm from Naples so there are no remaining appliance stores nearby anymore. Hoffman's carries the GE model that I was looking for. We were remodeling our kitchen so the deal that the salesman gave me was "buy 3 appliances and get a free microwave. We have had issues with the stove since it was installed last fall. I was out of there service area so they connected me to GE. They replaced the stove but it was missing a connector and we've never been able to use the griddle. I contacted Hoffman's and again was told I'm out of their service area. I tried to order the correct part twice but was sent the wrong one both times. The griddle still doesn't work. I was going to pursue this more but then 2 days ago the dishwasher pump broke. I called yesterday and the woman never got back to me. I called again this morning and was told they were all busy and the manager "Stan" would call back. It's been almost 3 hours. No call. They do not stand behind their products. If their service people can't come to fix the issue they should either pay for one who will or maybe have let me know when I purchased the appliances that I was on my own if there was a problem. I should not have to be the one to contact GE. That is Hoffman's responsibility. I would encourage anyone to stay away from Hoffman's Appliance. Service is the hallmark of small businesses. Anyone can sell you stuff; real character shows thru when a problem arises. That's where Hoffman Appliance truly failed. Everything in our kitchen remodel went perfectly ahead of our Christmas Eve party - except they somehow screwed up on a key appliance. When I asked them for help in filling up "Hoffman's Hole" with a floor model, or making a phone call or two to locate a replacement, they simply wouldn't do ANYTHING. "We don't do that," was all they said. Massively horrible experience. I try to 'buy local' whenever possible, but that really backfired on me with these idiots. They are awful. I bought a refrigerator from them this past spring because I wanted to do business locally. Their service was really bad. Don't trust what they say to you. I had so many problems with them. One of their salesmen didn't know anything about the appliances, seriously mislead me about the availability and delivery times. I needed a delivery time within a small time window, and I was upfront about it. The owner assured me this was something he would do, but he didn't honor this and the delivery turned out to be a nightmare, saved only by the guys who actually delivered it. Worst of all, when Hoffman's called about it, the guy, the owner, denied he had ever agreed to anything. I'm not making this up, even the guys who deliver their stuff don't trust them. I purchased a GE Microwave oven from Hoffman in 2008. One year and a couple of months later, the door handle broke off. I called Hoffman to see what could be done. I did not remember the warranty duration or whether I had purchased an extended warranty. The salesperson said the unit was junk made in China, that my warranty period had elapsed, and that I was on my own. Today, the company that services the extended warranty that Hoffman had in fact sold to me for $92 called me to ask if I wanted to extend it since it had just expired. I called Hoffman to say that I had been covered when I called in 2009. This time the salesman said that it was too late to do anything about it now, then he hung up on me. Thanks Hoffman! read more

Purchased a new dishwasher from Hoffman Appliance Winton Place Rochester NY. It was damaged in route to our house. Black Dog installation, Hoffman Appliance representative installed the dishwasher and told us when he was done to contact Hoffman Appliance. Fred Hoffman, the company president said he will not do anything about the damages and that I should contact GE. GE felt that the dishwasher should not have been installed when damaged and told me to talk to Fred again. Again Fred said he would not do anything about the damage and hung up. GE is assisting with a extended warrantee period. We had purchased numerous items, stove , TV and washers from Hoffman in the past. We will never do business with Hoffman Appliance again. It turns out that there was better service nearby so I would shop at Charlotte Appliance or the big box stores, Home Depot or Lowes to get the service that a customer expects and that Hoffman Appliances would not offer. Service is what makes or breaks a retail store. Hoffman Appliance is not a service orientated / customer friendly store. read more

We were referred to Hoffman Appliance by our designer while working on a recent kitchen renovation. Our experience in choosing the appliances was fine but we were not happy with what was delivered to our home. We chose to purchase a floor model refrigerator since the model we wanted was no longer being produced. I spent an enormous amount of time looking over every inch of the refrigerator to be sure it was in good condition. While in the store, the refrigerator was in excellent condition for a floor model. However, when it was delivered to our home several months later (toward the end of the renovation) there were small scratches and some of the stainless steel finish was chipped off. None of this is obviously noticeable to anyone but me, as I know where to look for it, but it is annoying. The biggest issue I had is that the stainless steel fridge arrived with a HUGE amount of masking tape attached to the front with the word SAVE and our last name written on it in premanent marker. The contractor who was working on our house when it was delivered told me he didn't feel comfortable helping me remove the tape because he felt like it may cause considerable damage. I immediately called the salesman at Hoffman that I had worked with to express my concern. He could not have cared less. He told me to go buy some Goo Gone and use it to remove the tape. I didn't feel like I should have to do this and was worried it might damage the fridge. In the end, I did as I was told. The tape came off but there are small scratches where it used to be. Also, the doors of the fridge are not even, which drives me crazy. Our experience with Hoffman Appliance was the only negative aspect of our renovation. I hope the company that renovated our kitchen will reconsider working with them in the future. read more

Not delivered or installed as promised. New range and hood (which was not necessary, but thought it best to get everything new) purchased 3 1/2 weeks before Thanksgiving with promise it would be installed "well before Thanksgiving". Delivered the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, then installer came out on the day before Thanksgiving. Found that hood was dented so did not install, nor was old one replaced. Left kitchen with a gaping hole in place of hood - at Thanksgiving ! ! Salesman Phil got attitude when we called to complain. New hood could not be obtained promptly "due to holiday". Called Fred Hoffman himself who said there was nothing they could do, as the hood was special order and takes time (which was NOT explained to us at time of purchase, or we would have just purchased the range). Installer is not an employee, but rather an independent contractor over which they have no control. Beware promises that can not be kept; feel that they did just what they needed to do to make a sale, then no contact until we followed up (several times). Very dissatisfied, and as Mr. Hoffman said, "there is nothing we can do to make you feel good". Very true. read more

During the sales process the sales associates are somewhat distant and disinterested, but they do answer questions while giving the impression they would rather not be bothered. Quite frankly, I think they are all ready to retire and are just biding time. I purchased a top of the line stove and from the very first week, had an issue with the operation of the stove. When I called my sales person, I was immediately dismissed and advised to contact the company. The company which manufactures the stove has advised me to work with the dealer who is responsible for replacement or refund when it is brand new. The owner, Fred Hoffman, couldn't be more uninterested or uncaring. It is obvious he is interested in only one thing - lining his pockets. After a lengthy battle with the manufacturer, I received a replacement stove which is again defective. Fred Hoffman actually walked away from me when I presented him with the consumer relations directive to work with the dealer for a replacement or refund. This is the worst experience I have ever had with any retail establishment. I cannot believe this man is in business and I urge you to stay away. There are other fine local establishments who deserve the business . read more
