We needed a replacement dishwasher. I did some research, but also knew what I liked and disliked about the Bosch units I have owned. I entered the store and was greeted immediately. The salesman asked my budget (this can sometimes be a trap) but I sensed his sincerity and said around $800. He steered me to the KitchenAid, rated quieter than Bosch, the rack set up was better, and it has the third rack in the top. I made the purchase and was on my way in about 20 minutes, spending less than $1000 for the dishwasher, tax, delivery, installation, and haul away the old one. We have used it for about two weeks and this unit is superior. I am ecstatic with the quiet operation, flexible loading, and the third rack for flatware is great! It took a little while for the unit to be stocked and delivered, but installation went flawlessly. read more

I would give ZERO STARS if I could. I know that a lot of people stand by them and they have been around for a while, but I don't know what has been going on there lately. I have had the most negative experience of my life from start to finish dealing with them. We spent thousands of dollars at their store for an entire brand new kitchen only to have the refrigerator break after a month and a half, not only that, when the appliances were originally delivered two things had to be brought back and replaced because there were dents all over them. The process of trying to get a replacement refrigerator has been an absolute nightmare, and has now been going on for the past three months. I had to practically beg them to give me a loaner refrigerator so that I could keep food in my house in the middle of the summer to feed my family and the craziest part is that this loaner refrigerator has now been in the middle of my living room for two months and nobody from Thayer has even checked in about that. Are they really OK with this level of customer service? Do they even care that I have had their refrigerator in my house for over two months at this point? it has literally started to affect my mental health at this point, and they seem completely oblivious and clueless and don't seem to care to help at all. I would definitely recommend staying away from Thayer appliance and just take your money somewhere more reliable like Home Depot or Lowe's. I cannot stress this enough, this has gone on for so long unresolved that now we are just buying a new refrigerator at Home Depot and letting them take away the broken one. If your goal is to simply save a few bucks go to Home Depot, Sears or Lowes. First they all use 3rd party companies for delivery and as of late they feel that delivery is throwing the box off the truck in your driveway. After one botched delivery from Sears, then Home Depot getting the address wrong and saying they were cancelling, I went to Thayer. At Thayer you talk to real people who are knowledgable and fair. The delivery guys were superb and thoughtful. Installed (no longer available at some places) and the old one removed. OK, $50 more but hey BUY LOCAL. read more

Ask yourself this: If I could purchase an appliance at a HomeDepot/Lowes/Sears where I could likely find a sale or have a coupon - certainly not pay list price - and where that giant retailer would deliver the appliance very soon after purchase, why, then, aim to buy from an outfit that would charge more, take well over a month to obtain and deliver the item, and complicate the potential for after-the-sale satisfaction? If it is because you (like I) hoped to 'shop small' or support a local business, then carefully examine how your politics affect your purchasing vs. the need to have something affordable delivered timely and serviced satisfactorily. read more

I am a landlord and have bought several dozen appliances from Thayer Appliance over the past ten years. The "pluses" are so numerous when shopping at Thayer that I overlook the rare occasions when things happen a little slowly. Without the buying power afforded the larger, big box stores, it's occasionally difficult for smaller retailers such as Thayer to get special orders in the store quickly, or to match big box store prices. That's okay, because more often than not, they do, or come close enough that it makes it worthwhile to shop there. In addition, the folks at Thayer are always trying to bend over backwards to accommodate me, in an environment that simply does not lend itself to the success of a small retailer. I always like a friendly, knowledgeable person with an understanding ear, which is what I get at Thayer (but never at the big box stores). For me, there's no comparison--I will always shop at Thayer for my appliances. read more

My 94 yo mother's fridge crossed over the rainbow bridge on a Friday afternoon! I went to Thayers and bought a new one. They gave me a great discount and two hours later it was delivered to my mother's house!!! They also removed the dead metal box!!! I never expected to have everything go so fast and smooth. I have purchased used dryers sight unseen and through a mere discussion with the owner, Each time, I have been fully satisfied with the purchase and am ready to do it again - simply because the flooding in my area damaged the dryer. I have read reviews where the author did not call the owner up again when the designated date came and went without hearing from them. They are an honorable company and sometimes are overwhelmed with all that is occurring and can easily have slipped from returning what they needed. I would always call and call until I met with satisfaction. If it is to be, it is up to you to follow through, Thayer is a good honorable company to purchase from. read more

Had a great experience being a first-time customer at Thayer. They had the dishwasher I wanted, matched the price offered at a big-box store (just ask!), and delivered it in one week. They even patiently explained the rebate process and gave me all the paperwork I would need to complete the rebate. Installation was done quickly and professionally. When I noticed a small scratch on the stainless steel later that day it only took one call to Thayer to make it right. They scheduled a replacement piece to be delivered and installed within two weeks. That replacement work was done professionally and within the time frame promised. As the rating states, I've experienced better. The sad part is that I've experienced better here at Thayer Appliance. I've purchased every Washing Machine, Clothes Dryer, Stove/Oven, Refrigerator and Freezer I've ever owned from Thayer. My most recent experience with a clothes dryer purchase has soured my enthusiasm for doing business here. I purchased a new dryer just prior to Thanksgiving 2011. Immediately upon getting it home and installing it, it made horrendous noise. Called the store, and they hooked us up with warranty service who found interior components disassembled. He fixed it, or so he told us, but shortly after he left, the machine sounded louder than ever; banging and clunking as it ran. I was appalled that a bend new, right-from-the-store machine could be such a piece of crap. I called the store owner and told him that I wanted to return the machine. He said that he would take it back, and I arranged to pay the difference and get a Speed Queen dryer. He stated that these dryers were on order, and that they'd be in my the first week of December. He's never called me or delivered the new dryer. I'm stuck with a piece of noisy garbage. I can get service like this at any big-box store, or online. I think I'm done shopping here, sadly. I like supporting the local guy, but I can't keep doing that when I'm getting screwed. read more

I went shopping for new appliances and was really satisfied with the level of customer service here. I have purchased items from Thayer from time to time in the past and really want to continue to support a local business. There is a bigger selection at Lowe's but the customer service cannot compare to Thayer. Thayer matches advertised prices, too! I highly recommend Nick! He spent a great deal of time with me answering all my questions on multiple days and even searched for rebates to help with deeper discounts. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because the items on display were a limited amount and the store could use a renovation...but I'll return again! Ask for Nick!!!!!! read more

This is the first time we bought appliances from Thayer appliance. Over the last six months we bought two appliances from them. We never received such knowledgeable service from an appliance store. No hard sell but tried to offer us what was right for us. They did some research and gave us as good a discount as the chain stores. Installation was right on time. I was able to communicate with the installers and they did the job as if it was their own house. No mess, no damage, and fast courteous work. They actually needed to go above and beyond the usual installation. I saw one review that was not a good review, but that reviewer said he bought many appliances in the past from Thayer. If he would have given a review for all the good times, it would be fair to the retailer. read more

Thayer's prices might not match the mega-stores but are competitive. Purchased appliances for my previous home and current home from Thayer's. Now beginning to upgrade major kitchen appliances. I had a problem with an appliance purchased from Thayer's just last month. When the manufacturer didn't stand by their product and resolve the issues to my satisfaction, Thayer's did. The owner called me to say they would replace it and I had it the next week. That's as good as it gets. I know that a larger outfit doing greater volume can charge a little less and carry more inventory in order to deliver more quickly but my experiences with Thayer's over the years has made me a customer for life. read more
