We purchased an older home, built in 1921, in the Summit Hill neighborhood of Saint Paul. It was in terrible condition -- a "fixer upper." It was the ugly duckling on the block. One local news celebrity who lives nearby described it as the "outlier" on the block. Gee thanks... It was in bad need of new siding and windows throughout. We knew about Hoffman Weber (HW) and Jason Iwig from previous dealings at our old house in Bloomington. (Those dealings resulted in a separate five-star review on Angie's List). So, when HW's estimate for windows and siding came back in the same ballpark as a couple of other very reputable companies, we immediately retained HW as our contractor. Jason met with us immediately after we committed to the project. He's extremely knowledgeable when it comes not only to the various siding products available but especially with respect to customizing design and aesthetic, with great attention to details like jut-outs, standard siding for lower and shake siding for upper, and decorative corbels etc. He was also able to provide several financing options from cash to a ten-year loan with relatively good rates. He was able to approve us on the spot. Jason then handed the project management over to Pete (for windows) and Tim (for siding), who served as the foremen of their respective projects by making regular visits and ensuring their crews had more than enough material on site to get the job done. Like Jason, Pete and Tim are extremely knowledgeable, thoughtful, and professional, and always available to answer questions or address concerns, always in a satisfactory (reasonable) manner. Our installers were meticulous with attention to detail, right down to the replacement of cable tv cords along the house. Everything had to be perfect with the siding and windows. Yes, this meant a somewhat slower completion time, but I'll take slightly slow and meticulous over fast and sloppy any day. Our satisfaction always seemed of primary concern for them. Our 1921 house at 1116 Saint Clair Ave was an "outlier" in the neighborhood when we moved in, for all the wrong reasons. Now it's an outlier for all the right reasons. With Jason's help and artistic flair, we decided to use Hardie siding in the color Countrylane Red, with Arctic White trim. But we chose Birch Bark for the shake siding up on top, with a jut-out supported by corbels. We're happy. Our new neighbors are ecstatic. And passersby on Saint Clair stop to tell us how impressed they are. We really couldn't be happier with the job Hoffman Weber did for us, and we very sincerely hope those who read this review consider them for their project. My experience with this company was extremely disappointing. The work was left incomplete, yet I was still sent invoices as if the project had been finished. Even after I explained the discrepancies in writing, the company issued another invoice for work that was never completed. I was also charged for a permit and the required permit was never pulled. This is a basic responsibility of a licensed contractor, and the failure to do so created unnecessary problems that I should not have been left to sort out on my own. Communication was inconsistent, accountability was lacking, and the company showed little interest in resolving the issues they created. The only positive part of this experience was the salesman, Bryan Winick, who was professional, very knowledgeable, honest and clearly not responsible for these problems. I custom-ordered two ProVia storm doors from Hoffman Weber, to be installed at a cost of just over $5000.00 for the pair. It's an astronomical amount, but according to reviews, these were supposedly the best doors out there. I waited seven weeks for the doors to be delivered. My front door is acceptable as installed and works well, although the added "Art Glass" design looks pretty cheesy, as if I had added it to the pane of glass myself with a plastic paint pen, instead of having the decoration "professionally" applied. Hoffman Weber had no actual photos of the "art glass" decorations. I chose the design from line drawings only. On the other hand, the second door that I ordered is completely unacceptable, and I will be replacing it with a different door from a different company. The chief requirement for this door was that it be able to accommodate a pet door. I had lengthy discussions with the sales staff before agreeing to order the ProVia door, and I was assured that they could deliver what I needed. The first door delivered was a half-light door, although I was told that a custom ¾-light door would be sent with a pet door already installed. The door was sent back, seven weeks after it had been ordered. When Hoffman Weber contacted me with a new spec for reordering the door, I was told that ProVia could NOT provide what I asked for. At the time, I agreed to order a 3/4-light door without a pet door, and install an after market pet door myself. I waited another seven weeks for the replacement door to come in. However, when it arrived, it became apparent that this second door is completely unsuitable for installing a pet door. While it's called a 3/4 light door, it's actually more like a 7/8 light door, with the bottom panel being much too small to fit a pet door of any size. I asked before ordering this door what the dimensions of the bottom panel would be, stating that I'd need at least 16" of panel in which to put the pet door. I never received any response to my inquiry. The door was ordered in standard dimensions. It will not work for its intended purpose and will need to be replaced yet again. In addition, the window slide on the replacement door arrived broken, with a six inch strap of sharp, heavy metal protruding from the frame when the window was raised. After weeks of inquiries, ProVia eventually sent someone to fix the defect, but in the process of replacing the slide, made several cuts in the door frame. The door is back together and the window now slides up and down, but the structural integrity of the door has been compromised. The door also arrived with several nicks and scratches already present in the exterior paint, and with the wrong lock on the handleset. I communicated all this to my contact at Hoffman Weber, and have yet to have my concerns addressed. It has been nearly five months since I put in the original order, and I still do not have a back door that works for me. While I have paid off the balance of my contract, I am extremely unhappy with the service and the product that I have received. read more

This should be a two part review. I will say their sales person and the team that did the work was really good. I would give that a 4.5 out of five. It was the billing from the office. When you get a quote from someone that should be the price you pay at the end. Not including any changes or unforseen. But when my roof was complete and they sent the final bill, it was a 1/3 more then the quoted price. I went with HW because they are in the twin cities and supposed to be a reputable company. But being in the construction business myself and knowing how to bid and estimate and how billings go, I would never recommend them to anyone. Hoffman Weber engaged in predatory behavior to those most vulnerable after Hurricane Ian in Fort Myers, FL. They broke countless construction laws and tried to collect on funds despite their faulty construction costing us 20K in repairs (and we still need to get a roof!) As of 2024, they appear to have LEFT Fort Myers, FL and GOOD RIDDANCE. They hired a third party construction crew with no experience and tried to pass the job saying it passed final inspection. Customer service and management do not communicate to you. We have sent them endless emails, voice mails, phone calls and nothing. They let our permits expire with no intention of following through on their contracts with us. All of us in our building have suffered terribly at their hands after a year and a half of their negligence on their failed installation of our roof. Going forward, we have now hired an attorney to represent us and force Hoffman Weber to respond to our issues. We look forward to seeing them in court. DO NOT HIRE THESE PEOPLE! Where to start.Sharing my personal experience with this company. Horrible experience best defines it. From start to finish, the contractors used, left cigarette butts throughout the yard, 67 roofing nails were found after the company left and said the job was done. Granted yes I understand some can be missed, but 67? Tarp was not used completely to cover my deck and roofing material was all over my deck. Have photos but will not submit. The onsite project person was told to clean the wet roofing material off of my deck before any staining. We the homeowner waited months for the permit put on door for the inspector to review to have signed off. Well the inspector came out the first time for inspection and could not complete because no photos were left (I believe for the frost line). I had to call myself to the city to find out the status the second time around and that is when I was told about photos. Inspector called Hoffman and said photos completed, well needless to say he came out a second time and no photos once again. Called contractor and the project manager out right lied to me and said the inspector screwed up. Both sides of my garage gutters were damaged from their ladders. First, the Pinnacle windows they put in are disgusting. The frames are shoddy plastic coating. Their window installer did a lousy job. The miters are not even with jagged gaps and nail holes all over my frames. The frames are white, inside and out, and he just left the black nail holes showing. I kept on complaining, so my salesman, Tim, came out to look at them, he turned to me and said, you sure are fussy!! If I had been his boss I would have fired him on the spot. I still owed them around $15,000, as it was a big project, they also did new siding for us. I was so sick and tired of going round and round with them I just paid them off. Hoffman Weber is terrible. Don't ever use them. We contracted to get our roof done and they scheduled the work to start August 3. 4 weeks later the some of the materials are still sitting at the back of our house. I say some, because some were stolen since they've been sitting around for a month. HW rescheduled 4 times so far. One of those times a crew showed up, but no one from HW was there, so the crew left after half an hour of waiting. I contacted HW to find out what was going on and they said the crew "declined" the project. Bullsh&t. They left because no one from HW was there, no project manager, no truck to haul away debris. So on top of their incompetence, they lied to me. I call the project manager's phone, no response. I contact customer service and they say the PM will call me. He never does. This company is a joke. I would never ever use this company again & I would not recommend you to either. We hired this company to replace two exterior doors and some siding on our home. We were clear that work needed to be done within 2 months as we were preparing to sell our home and had a timeline. The sales person was great - super organized, friendly and professional. He also felt that our timeline wouldn't be a problem as the material we were using was typically stocked. However, once we paid our initial deposit, we did not hear from them for weeks & correspondence went unanswered. It was inferred that our material would be ordered upon deposit receipt and that work would begin within 6 weeks. After many calls, our material was ordered about 5 weeks after deposit submission and then the doors were not due in for 4 more weeks. We ended up purchasing our own doors to get the work started. They were in stock at Menards. Our experience did not get better when work began. They started a day early without our knowledge. A section of siding was removed that we asked them to leave & when I confronted our project manager about it he said he remembered that we didn't want that siding off, but we "will like it better" with it redone. Additionally, because they were a day early, I did not have opportunity to protect my gardens as I planned to do and my Hastas, which were 2 feet from the house, were trampled nearly flat. They also left all the removed siding all over our yard and gardens because the dumpster hadn't been delivered yet when they were there. When the person came to install our doors they cut our doorbell without asking us and lied about it, saying it didn't work anyway (it did). I insisted they fix it and I believe they billed us for the fix, masking it as the fee to re-install 2 exterior lights after the siding was complete: $800 to install 2 lights and then a $400 permit that was never pulled, nor required to be. When we pushed back about the non existent permit they removed that charge, but so far have refused to budge on the $800 bill to re-hang two exterior lights. A huge reason we had the siding done was to cover a former hole where a window AC was. We asked them to fill the hole with insulation before putting the siding on, something that was talked about in the initial consult, and we were told "it would be fine without" that it didn't matter. They were fairly dismissive and disrespectful to us when we spoke up about this. Finally, after many frustrating phone calls and photo texts sent, it was done. We did not receive a single apology for the doorbell cut, the section of siding removed, or our poor experience in general until we went to the office and spoke with the owner. Even then, while he was apologetic, he insisted this was not their way and it was a misunderstanding. This was a consistent message through out as we continually expressed our concerns and frustrations: it was all due to "misunderstanding" or "miscommunication". Not one person took responsibility for the continual frustrations caused or the way we were continually disregarded and mal treated. When our final bill was sent it was not itemized, just a total. They did not remove tasks they opted not to do, nor did they remove the doors they did not use because they would not arrive in time. They also included a charge for the siding section that we asked them not to remove. I know this because the total was exactly the same as our original quote was. I asked for these corrections as well as an itemized bill and after a few weeks I received an itemized bill. As I went through I noted the above $1200 electrical charge was on there as well as a $500 permit fee for a permit that was less than $250. We asked for the electrical invoice to understand these charges and they refused to provide. We are still waiting for the permit to be closed out. I have never spent so much money on services provided by a company that clearly does not respect me or my home. Biggest regret of my renovation and summer was hiring HW. read more

Disgusted! Had a new roof and siding installed last summer. It wasn't a great experience, but it was tolerable. Wanted to get some other things done and couldn't get a return phone call from the sales rep. Finally, after calling HW directly, they did send someone out, but he was ill prepared. We decided to skip any further dealings with them. We noticed part of our siding was damaged. I called and was directed how to file a claim. An entire month went by and I received a short email from Amanda stating they would be out that Friday to fix it. That was two weeks ago and the siding still isn't fixed. I called again today. I received an apology and was told someone would be out to fix it this week. I'll believe that when I see it. I feel taken advantage of and angry and disappointed. I called and spoke to Jane on the phone to set an appointment for someone to come out and give me a bid to finish our basement and remodel our kitchen. She sent me an email asking me to confirm my address...which I did. In the same email, she confirmed my appointment of Thursday, July 27th at 4:00pm. At 4:30 on that Thursday I sent Jane an email indicating that no one had shown, called to reschedule or called to cancel. To this day, I still have not heard from this company. We had siding done on our home with Hoffman Weber the spring of 2018. What a nightmare, and it has continued through the winter. They placed our garage siding all the way to the ground when the old siding was at least 1/2 to ¾" above the cement. What do you think happened this year when the ground froze? The slab moved cracked the corner piece, buckled the bottom row. Tim the foreman had the gall to say, Oh that's the way the old siding was all the way to the ground. WRONG! We had some pretty heavy storm damage as did most of the city of Blaine so right away I had heard that out of state "storm chasers" were coming door to door flooding the neighborhood so I made sure to call a company that is local to Minnesota and after checking online reviews and a couple local residents we chose Hoffman Weber. From first contact James DePoint was a complete professional, always making sure I understood what was going on during the process. James was here during the insurance damage inspection making sure to look out for our families' best interest to return our home to the proper state. Also, any employee that worked on our house was courteous and professional as well. The repairs were all done correctly, the first time (I heard horror stories about some of those "storm chasers" which made our decision that much better that we went with Hoffman Weber). During a follow up I got a chance to meet John Weber, who is a really great guy, and in the end they went above and beyond to take care of our family and our home. 1 star because I had to. We have had nothing but problems with Hoffman Weber. They don't return call or emails and if by chance they do it is 3 weeks later. They say someone will come out and they never show up. We have had issues with our gutters since they put them on. We have sent pictures and video's, all they want is their money!!! There is no customer service and Amanda is absolutely useless. Instead of fixing our issues they turned us over to a collection agency to collect $1700.00 of a 42,000.00 job. Under their contract we can hold back 10% until the job is complete. We have water running down the front of our house, the back and porch. This is not a satisfactory job!!! Warning! Beware! This company has cool television ads, nice salespeople, great subcontractors for replacing shingles, but the experience, in total, was horrible! No project management for gutters/flashing, long punch list of problems, multiple "no show" appointments to fix the punch list. We even got to the point of picking out the maintenance free deck and railing shades. I wanted them to come look at my roof and the rep said they would not send anyone unless I could confirm that both myself and my spouse could be there. This rang very high pressure to me. Dealing with HWC is virtually impossible. Salesman will promise you anything to get the job. For instance time frame 6 weeks we will have everything complete. So we had a unattached garage roofed and a new front entry door ordered and installed. The roofing job was done with no issues and in the time frame the door however 14 weeks later it finally arrives. Dealing with office for updates via email is a joke I guess it's easier to make up stories and false dates to keep you appeased. The last straw for me when I got the invoice I called them up to pay with a credit card ( salesmen absolutely we take cc payments all the time) failed to mention that they will add 3% surcharge to our total that would be just under $200.00. Bottom line research the company you go with and before you sign get in writing all the promises made by them. read more

I hired this company the beginning of August 2017 to replace a flat garage roof which had a deck on top of it. My job should have taken 3 days; instead, it was the middle of November, over 3 months later when the project was completed. This was the worst experience I have had working with a contractor in 37 years of home ownership. I made multiple phone calls and e mails to this company without response until I began threatening to contact the BBB. There were many delays due to medical issues of their flat roof specialist. When worker would not show up for work, I had to call to find out why after waiting around all day. Apparently the company only had one person who could do the work and had no one to send in his place when he was unable to work. Despite being a large company, they apparently lack adequate staffing for the number of projects they took on (and I might add, happily took 1/3 deposits for). Poor communication by the company with me as well as within the company. Had I not been present, crucial information would not have been relayed to the crew regarding a needed barrier for raccoons. Mh previous roof was damaged by raccoons and I did not want a recurrence of this problem, but the person I signed up for the job with did not communicate this to the crew. Due to deck furniture sitting on my lawn for 3 plus months, there was damage to my lawn. When the work was finally completed, company denied that they agreed to return the furniture to the deck, and I ended up hiring someone else to finish this detail of my project. I cannot believe they received a BBB award this past year. If this is a "best company" for home projects, then we as consumers are really in trouble. Hail damage last summer resulted in us needing new siding and roof. I spent a lot of time contacting companies and trying to find a reputable company that would do a good job and be there for us if there were problems. Keith, our sales guy at Hoffman Weber left me feeling very safe and secure. I loved the idea that I would be able to see my house before we committed to it. A contract was signed and all the t's were crossed and i's dotted. However, as soon as the roofing work began everything we expected didn't happen. The dumpster wasn't placed where it was specified in contract, tarps were not draped around house as promised, etc. Our contact for work was no longer Keith but Dave the Project Manager. We were in touch a lot! There were lots of issues with the roof project but Dave followed through and tried to make sure things were fixed including spending time going around property with magnet picking up nails that were missed. We recently had the siding done. I have never had construction on house before so again I expected everything would go smoothly. Unfortunately that wasn't the case but I have to say Dave ALWAYS responded promptly and courteously addressing every problem and every concern I had. That is very valuable and the reason I am giving 4 stars. My house doesn't look like the picture I was given as colors of big board wasn't/isn't available in the siding material. I wish I would have known that as it would have affected my color decision. The critique I have of Hoffman Weber would be for the sales guys not to sell you a service and tell you extreme care will be taken when it won't be. However, the things I like about Hoffman Weber are the service I received from Dave, my PM, and the expectation that if there is a problem in the future Hoffman Weber will be around. read more

HWC sent someone to give us a quote on 3/9/17. After hearing other quotes, we decided to sign a contract with Hoffman Weber. A week goes by and we don't hear anything. I had to call to get them to schedule with us. They came back and our quote increased by $1400 because of some measurement mistake. Ok fine. We signed a change order and they are to begin the following week. The day came and they increased our price another $2,800 because they said there's an extra layer of shingles they'll have to rip off so that's more work and that they need 5 full days of nice weather. Really?? How many mistakes are you going to make when giving someone a quote?? So, fine! We agreed to it because we've come so far already and just want it done! We signed another change order and they said they'll start the following week again. Because they've rescheduled so many times my insurance company dropped us because our roof was bad. So, come the day they're supposed to start nobody shows up. I called them and they said due to the rain we had the previous days they need it to dry first so they'll start that Thursday (it was a Monday). I checked the weather and said "Why Thursday when it's supposed to be pouring that day too?" They were sure it was going to work Thursday. Now, Thursday comes and guess what? Yep, another reschedule because I was right--it was raining. They said Friday because it's supposed to be beautiful! Oh and now they've gone from needing 5 full days of great weather to only 2! Today is Friday--absolutely gorgeous weather today!. And guess what? See a pattern here? Yes, they've rescheduled again to tomorrow, Saturday. They promise it will be done by Sunday afternoon. I find it amazing how their work has gone from needing 5 days to only 2 days. Needless to say, I have some other contractors on speed dial right now should they call me tomorrow and reschedule! I worked with James DePoint who was very helpful and professional. From what I could tell the work on our roof was done professionally. Unfortunately the clean-up was subpar. Nails were scattered throughout my yard and it took 3 different visits to complete the yard clean up. After the snow melted found more. I have no construction or organization skills when it comes to commercial buildings, an expert from Hoffman Weber Construction came in explained different options and scenarios that would be good short and long term solutions for our heating loss and roof leaking. It amazed me his commitment and knowledge not just to the process but the consistent follow up. We have already seen a savings just in the electric bills from the new roof. Our company was so impressed we have already started the process to have HWC remodel some of our larger rooms as well as looking at their basement repair for some of our employees homes. I signed a contract and paid a large deposit for a window replacement project and although under contract was later told it was a low bid and I needed to come up with over 1 thousand dollars more. I cancelled. The owner did not bother to call me; I had a contract. I should sue. read more

Hoffman Weber replaced our siding and we were extremely happy with the results. Our entire Home Owners Association (136 home owners) experienced a hailstorm and Hoffman Weber were hired to replace two sides because that is what the insurance covered, and then each homeowner contracted separately to do the other two elevations. It was a very stressful project for everyone involved, the homeowner, the HOA board of directors and the contractor - how to make everyone happy when major construction is in your neighborhood for 6 months. However, they did a great job at working with the HOA and the homeowners. While some people will grumble no matter what because that's just the type of people they are about everything. The workmanship is excellent, their crew were amazingly quick and Hoffman Weber's supervisors did their best to smooth over ruffled feathers along the way. Professional is a great description. The entire neighborhood looks brand new and a big thank you goes to Hoffman Weber for taking on such a job that had big complications to overcome before they even stepped on the jobsite. read more
