This may be more humble in size than some of the larger farmer's markets in the area, but I can…read morefind everything I need here - from a good variety of organic greens and produce, to wild caught local seafood & shellfish, locally crafted cheeses, pastured meats, and home-baked treats.... and I love the new 3-6pm time frame - it makes dinner shopping a breeze and I can catch the bus home right nearby! Remember to bring a cooler with you to work and you can get your dinner shopping done and have food for the week! The other day I picked up a huge bottle of DELICIOUS local clover honey (my go-to remedy for seasonal allergy prevention, pooh-bear style) and I also treated myself to a dozen raw oysters, which I savored later that night, topped with a splash of fire cider. If you don't know what fire cider is, I suggest you google it - they're local!

I have been meaning to check out this farmer's market for a really long time, but today was the…read morefirst time I was able to make it. Sadly, I was disappointed. It all started when I parked my car in a metered spot that I thought was 2 hours, so I put in 3 quarters, only to have the time go up to 15 minutes. I shook the meter, and waiting a few seconds and proceeded to deposit another quarter. Still the meter read 15 minutes. Frustrated, I realized I would just have to rush around what I thought was going to be an extensive market and get back to my car in time (upon returning, I realized I parked in a 15 minute area). Either way, it did not begin the experience on the best foot. And the disappointment continued This has been advertised the most of any of the farmer's markets in the Providence area; however, there were only about 6 stands out today. There were three that had produce, one plants, one bakery, and then the other stands were just information. I did buy some beets, lettuce, and arugula, and I just finished my yummy meal that I made with the beets. I do have to say that there was an amazing highlight to the market, that I wish I could stick around for, but alas the 15 minute parking. Johnson and Wales had a booth set up that was giving out samples of homemade salsa, corn chowder, mexican pizza, and grilled corn on the cod. The salsa was so good. I went to go buy it and realized that they were not selling the salsa, they were giving out -FOR FREE- a cookbook that explained how to make not only the dishes they were serving, but also a bunch of other vegetable friendly dishes. I am psyched to try to make the salsa (I wish I could've purchased all the ingredients at the farmer's market - if only it were bigger) I think that this is the first year that the market has been held at Kennedy Plaza, so I'm hoping that it grows. I don't have anything against the stands that were present, I just wish there was more of them.
