    Cheese wontons with plum sauce
    Amanda B.

I had coworkers who would swear by this place, so I thought I'd finally try it for delivery. Of course, not all-you-can-eat for delivery, plus the pandemic. I wasn't expecting the best sushi ever because AYCE usually isn't always great quality. Some of it was great, some not so much, but I'm sure it would be on-par with other AYCE if we ate there. I won't describe every single item because we had a big order, but here's what we got: 1 B03 Salmon Sashimi (5pc) 1 B04 White Tuna Sashimi (5pc) 1 C06 Philadelphia Roll (8pc) 1 C14 Rainbow Roll (6pc) 1 C23 Spicy Tuna Roll (6pc) 1 E04 Steamed Shrimp Dumpling (4pc) 1 E05 Steamed Pork Dumpling (4pc) 1 F08 BBQ Chicken Yakitori (5pc) 1 F09 Cheese Wonton (6pc) 1 F12 Deep Fried Sesame Ball (4pc) 1 F15 Deep Fried Tofu (4pc) 1 F17 Pork Cutlet 1 F19 Crunchy Takoyaki (6pc) 1 H06 Salmon Belly (2pc) 2 Spicy Mayo 2oz 1 Diet Coke Some of the deep fried items weren't the crispiest, like the takoyaki, as expected with delivery and especially with sauce, but it was presented nicely and neatly and the taste wasn't bad. Out of the fried items, my favourites would have to be the sesame balls and I think the salmon belly was deep fried as well. The salmon belly was probably one of my favourite items overall because it was cooked perfectly and I don't know if they just messed up or what, but I definitely got more than two pieces. I was hoping the fried tofu was actually agedashi tofu, but it was just plain fried tofu haha. Maybe I was supposed to use one of the sauce containers that came with our order, but most of them were sweet other than the soy sauce, and I didn't feel like sweet tofu. The maki rolls were what pretty much you'd expect from an AYCE in terms of size and taste, though they were rolled better than I've seen at other AYCE restaurants. The salmon and white tuna sashimi slices, on the other hand, were bigger than I expected and tasted fresh. The steamed shrimp dumplings (har gow) and pork dumplings (shumai) were very small and too salty, particularly the shrimp har gow, which were also very starchy. I had some vinegar at home, which helped, but I would skip these next time. The whole meal was a pretty good value. All in all, not bad, but there are definitely some items that are more worth ordering a la carte from an AYCE than others.

So during the pandemic this place closed for indoor dining for about the 2 years it offered only take outs. Finally last month they opened again for dine in. What's super cool is they have a robot serving food .. really fun! Service is nice some of them. For an all you can eat sushi is decent and fresh. Portions are reasonable. But price definitely went way up.. it's 35.99 plus tax all dya no more lunch pricing!

My experience with Hockey Sushi was mediocre. The restaurant itself is spacious with modern renovations. Seated in semi-partitioned booths allow for privacy while keeping the open feeling. In my eyes, I would give the restaurant itself a 5/5 but the food is nothing to get excited about. Like most, All-You-Can-Eat restaurants, the quality of food could be much better. The food arrived with minutes of ordering which was concerning. The sushi rolls were clearly made quickly, making presentation poor. The restaurant relies on the use of imitation crab in its creations quite heavily. The seafood itself appeared to be fresh and good quality but the portion sizes could be larger. The spicy salmon is a joke, it's an abnormal pâté of salmon mixed with tempura flakes and spicy mayo. In the end, it's a hit and miss. I would recommend coming here for lunch on a work week. The food is definitely not worth the money at supper time. And please do not think about going here if you're taking your significant-other on a fancy date. I did not see any staff smile or make small talk at all with any customers. Though they were happy visit and joke amongst themselves. Mediocre

    Hockey Roll - good!

Very good experience overall. We came for lunch and while that meant we weren't able to try some of the items on the menu, what was available was quite good. The fish was delicious and tasted very good. Everything was artfully prepared and well presented. Even the non-sushi items were really good and our large party left feeling full and satisfied. The service was friendly and fairly prompt too (which isn't always the case at ayce). The price for lunch was also quite good. While I've definitely had better, this was a solid choice and I would definitely go again if I was in the area.

Pretty average AYCE. I went for dinner, and their rolls are pretty fresh. My favourite was the volcano roll! Their sashimi was cut quite small, but it was fresh. And no upset stomach after, which is a plus! However, a lot of the items we ordered never came such as tempura and a few special dinner items (lamb skewers). We had to ask the waitress about it and then it came (wait was pretty long). There was no issue receiving all of the sushi we ordered. At the end, the bill was put on our table, but there were still lots of other tables eating and their bill was not on their table (plus the place had a lot of empty spots), so not sure why we were rushed... I would say my favourite all you can eat was back when Fusion house on Bank st was still open as their quality of sushi and dim sum was really good! I would go back here, but just be mindful of the wait for some items.

Oily sushi. Disgusting ! It was quite hard to swallow a maki that is full of grease. This was 30$ buffet. The green tea is far from a tea and is mostly boiling water. Avoid going here. They have okay sashimis though.

Much better than grocery store sushi, but obviously not as good as those fancy Japanese restaurants. For the price though, and for what it is, I'd say it was excellent. I feel that the quality is similar to Kiramaki Sushi in Old Ottawa South and Sushi29 in Blackburn Hamlet. I called in the order for pickup and was told it would be 30 minutes. I arrived after 40 minutes and it was ready waiting for me. I asked for no sesame seeds and that was no problem at all. Service was courteous and efficient. The Maki Combo B had 6 pieces of each of the following: California, Cucumber Shrimp Tempura, Salmon, Spicy Tuna, and Cucumber Avocado. The sushi rice was a good texture, not too dry nor too mushy, but could have used a bit more rice vinegar seasoning in my opinion. The rolls held together well and did not fall apart when I picked them up. The rice to other ingredients ratio was satisfactory. Not too much rice, but not just the thinnest amount of rice (which is my preference) like Shinka Sushi (mind you Shinka Sushi is so much more expensive, lol). The Cucumber Shrimp Tempura roll was my favourite. The tempura shrimp was crunchy and the cucumber was fresh. The California roll was good, but rather unremarkable. The Salmon roll was really boring, it literally only had salmon in it. The Spicy Tuna roll had tempura bits in it and was drizzled with a spicy mayo. I liked the texture and mildly spicy kick. The Cucumber Avocado roll was literally just cucumbers and avocado, so another boring roll. However, the avocado and cucumbers were fresh. No black spots on the avocado and the cucumbers had a good crunch to them. Combos come with Miso soup. The miso soup was good, not too salty and had some wakame seaweed and cubes of soft tofu. It came in a plastic container though. I would have preferred a paper bowl. There are a few seats inside to eat, but it's really more a takeout joint. Decor and ambiance are very casual. If you eat in, expect a lot of food couriers and people picking up takeout hanging around. The restaurant is in a strip mall. Plenty of free parking in the strip mall parking lot.

I was SO stoked to finally visit the Moonroom after seven or so years of wanting to go!…read more After a Saturday night at Bluesfest, we waited somewhere else for about half an hour before they told us the kitchen was backed up, so we walked down Preston and I was so glad the Moonroom was still open. We didn't get there until about 12:30am and it was pretty full. We didn't leave until maybe 2:30am and it was still pretty full considering the time. They're not normally open this late, but it seems like a lot of the businesses on Preston decided to stay open later to catch the post-Bluesfest crowd. Good call! We decided to sit inside since there was an empty table, otherwise I would've liked to sit out on their back patio, which looked really pretty with the lights. Inside was a nice vibe though, too. It's small/narrow, dimly lit, with sheets covering the different coloured ceiling lights, and candles on the table. It's very intimate and pretty romantic. We sat close to the bar and there was another party of two beside us. The music was a bit louder so we couldn't really hear the other table's conversations, but not so loud that we couldn't hear each other. They were playing the Bee Gees when we walked (danced) in, so we were really about the jams. My husband got a rotating draught IPA by Daft Brewing, can't remember which one it was. I got the Jill Collins, which had Tanqueray Gin, Affino Limone, fresh lemon and mint, cane syrup, and a Moon soda top. It was super refreshing, bright, and not too sweet, which is exactly what I wanted. We shared/I mostly ate the "OG Grilled Cheese" and "Panzanella-esque Salad". The grilled cheese had aged Balderson and cream cheeses in a crunchy baguette smothered in toasted garlic butter, served with Moon ketchup. It was exactly as described, with very crunchy, buttery garlic bread and creamy cheese. The Moon ketchup is made in-house, thinner and chunkier than processed, store-bought ketchup, with stronger flavours. It was okay, but I didn't need to dip much in the ketchup because I really enjoyed the sandwich and it was on the saltier side itself. Because it was a lot creamier than gooey, I'd say it was more of a sandwich than a grilled cheese, but still very tasty. I really am not a huge fan of salad in general, but I can't complain when it was burrata on top. It also had salty bread, arugula, roasted tomatoes, fresh peaches, herbs, and honey. The peaches were more firm than ripe and juicy, which was good for a salad, though I wish they were a bit sweeter. The burrata wasn't creamy inside like I expected, but I love cheese in any form. I really don't know what possessed me to get salad, especially after a bunch of drinks in the wee hours of the night, but my body thanked me later. Salty, bitter, a little sweet, fresh, and not heavy, even with (more) bread and cheese. It was great. They unfortunately ran out of the affogato, which probably would've convinced my husband to stay longer. Too bad. The vegan dark chocolate gelato from Farinella that they put in it sounded amazing. The beer was $10.50, my cocktail was $19, grilled cheese $16, and salad $17, which was pricey. BUT, the fresh herbs are from their garden on the back patio, they make their own soda and ketchup (among other things), everything was delicious, and even late at night the cocktails and dishes were still well put together and tasted great, plus I finally came here after so long. No regrets! Our server was super nice, same with owner and one of the bartenders, who even popped over and sat with us for a bit to chat. And not in a weird/creepy/in-your-face way lol she was cool. She was the one who greeted us when we came in and said bye to us on our way out. There's no flash photography (I forgot to turn my auto flash off for my salad, sorry!). They're open all week from 5pm to 2am, no reservations, no large groups, and no phone (just stop by). I wasn't sure if it would meet the high expectations and hype I had built up in my head after waiting so long to visit, but it totally did. It's such a nice spot, we had an amazing time, and we will definitely be back!

I've had sushi plenty in Vancouver and Toronto, and this place was disappointing in comparison (even to Toronto sushi). I think AYCE sushi is more popular in Ottawa. This is one of the few places that do a la carte. I found the prices to be a bit expensive for what you get. 3 of us shared a sushi and sashimi party tray. It came to around $30 a person, and was quoted on the menu to be for about 3-4 people. I would say it's barely enough for 3 very small people, let alone 4. It did not come with miso soup or salad. The quality of the sushi was nothing to be amazed about. Although it was probably a bit better than AYCE, I think for the prices, I'd expect better quality sushi. If I had to, I'd choose AYCE sushi over this in Ottawa. Also, in terms of authenticity, I think this place is Chinese owned. It is a small establishment, so if you want to be sure you get a table, I'd recommend reservations. There is street parking available on Somerset. I likely won't be back, and will definitely try my hardest to persuade my friends to go elsewhere if they want to come back.
